8 en-USOen-USne of the things I often hear when I en-US ask a new user what they want to en-US learn about their computer is, "I en-US want to learn how to download." en-US Of all the things people can do with their en-US machines, downloading seems to be a en-US concept that's shrouded in mystery. We en-US hear about it all the time, "just go to www.en-US whatever.com and download your copy en-US today," or "I just downloaded an update to en-US my anti-virus software; my machine should en-US be well-protected now."en-US What exactly do they mean by downen-US -en-US loading? How come no one ever explains it? en-US Well, it's one of those concepts that, for the en-US most part, is 90 percent automatic. That's en-US why there isn't much written about it for en-US the end user. en-US Let me explain. Whenever you visit a en-US Web site, any picture, sound, text, etc., en-US displayed is stored on the computer that en-US hosts it. When you access the Web site, all en-US of that stuff is transferred from their en-US computer down to yours, so it can be en-US displayed. Since this transfer is going from en-US the Web site down to your computer, the en-US data is said to be downloading. en-US So basically, every time you access a Web en-US site, you are automatically downloading lots en-US of stuff. en-US The direction the data flows is what en-US makes the difference between downloading en-US and uploading. en-US Data that comes down from the 'net to en-US your machine is considered downloaded, en-US while data that leaves your computer and en-US goes up to the 'net is considered "uploaded." en-US When you send your mail, the data goes en-US from your computer, up to the mail server; en-US it's uploaded. When you get your mail, it en-US comes down from the mail server; it's en-US downloaded. en-US Now, when typical stuff is downloaded en-US from a Web site, it's usually displayed as it is en-US being downloaded (back in the days of en-US dialup, the pictures would seem to slowly en-US form before your eyes). en-US The confusion about downloading comes en-US from those times when the file you are en-US trying to access is something other than a en-US file that can be displayed as it comes in. In en-US these cases, you have to save the file to disk en-US and then access the file manually. en-US This isn't as complicated as it may first en-US seem. When you encounter a file like that, en-US typically a "save as" dialogue box opens and en-US the computer wants to know where on your en-US computer you want to save the file. This is en-US logical; the machine needs a place to store it en-US as it comes in. Some browsers will be set up en-US to automatically save things to your en-US Downloads folder while other browsers en-US may have to save things manually. Save it to en-US the desktop or create a folder specifically en-US for it on the hard drive but, regardless of en-US where you save it, you need to note what en-US folder it is being saved en-US in and what the file is en-US named. That way, after en-US the download is en-US complete, you can en-US navigate to that folder en-US and double-click the en-US newly downloaded file. en-US The next thing that en-US tends to cause en-US confusion is what en-US happens when you en-US download something en-US that your machine en-US doesnt know how to en-US open for instance, en-US say you just downloaden-US -en-US ed a .pdf file but you en-US have no .pdf reader en-US installed on your computer. Then, when en-US you go to open it, the computer displays a en-US message asking you what program to use! en-US This can be very intimidating if you dont en-US understand the message but you know en-US what? The download worked fine! The file en-US did indeed transfer from the internet down en-US to the computer, the computer just doesnt en-US know what to do with it and is relying on en-US you to tell it what program to use. en-US (Not sure what program to use yourself? en-US Heres a hint take the three letter extenen-US -en-US sion at the end of the file name (in this en-US example .pdf) and ask google what en-US program opens .pdf. Google will then en-US come up with a list of what programs will en-US open your file). en-US Another area of confusion comes from en-US things that automatically downloaded en-US things like antivirus or Windows updates en-US are often downloaded in the background so en-US there is usually little (if anything) that you en-US have to do but, since everyone knows how en-US important updates are, people can get stuck en-US trying to figure out how to download things en-US that are already taken care of. The trick en-US there is learning how to verify that autoen-US -en-US matic downloads worked the way they are en-US supposed to have. en-US Well, that's downloading in a nutshell, I en-US hope this helps!en-US Sean McCarthy fixes computers. My concern en-US is if we wait much longer, well lose all of en-US 2020s season as well.en-US Commissioner Jenkins ultimately secen-US-en-US onded the motion, which passed 3-2 with en-US Commissioners Ed Fielding and Sarah en-US Heard dissenting, but only after dropping en-US the bomb that hed changed his mind since en-US the May meeting during which the Board en-US had directed Mr. Abbate to continue on en-US with plans to keep all 36 holes on the en-US course. en-US I think the first thing we should be en-US doing is the exotic plant removal, he said. en-US The other thing Im going to probably en-US make a few people angry with is I have en-US changed my tune on keeping it a 36-hole en-US golf course. Its not sustainable, especially en-US after approving the last round of suppleen-US -en-US mental income to the Golf Course, so I en-US would like you in your plan to proceed en-US with also adding how we take nine holes en-US out of play.en-US Commissioner Jenkins made reference en-US to the rapidly increasing subsidy required en-US by the course, which Mr. Abbate admitted en-US was at $626,000 as of the beginning of the en-US fiscal year Oct. 1. Commission Chairman en-US Ed Ciampi initially rejected the idea of en-US shrinking the course due to the majority en-US support by area golfers for maintaining 36 en-US holes expressed at a charrette held at Indien-US-en-US an Riverside Park to gauge public opinion. en-US It was overwhelming that the 150 peoen-US -en-US ple that showed up wanted 36 holes, he en-US said. That was sort of the battle cry, and en-US when this Board agreed that wee were en-US going to keep it, those people went home en-US and said okay, we won that one. We cant en-US do a bait and switch as far as Im conen-US-en-USinterfering with railroad track or equipment, trespassing on propen-US -en-US erty other than structure/conveyance, and criminal mischief en-US $1,000 or more. en-US Kenneth Johnson, 20, of 7th Street, Fort Pierce, was arrested en-US Oct. 17 and charged with burglary of occupied structure/conveyen-US -en-US ance unarmed.en-US Michael Krewson, 32, of SE Arapaho Avenue, Stuart, was en-US arrested Oct. 17 and charged with use of computer service to en-US seduce/solicit child, and use of a two-way communication device en-US to facilitate felony.en-US Nicholas Pinter, 21, of SW Ray Avenue, Port St. Lucie, was en-US arrested Oct. 18 and charged with compiling/entering/transmiten-US -en-US ting/printing/publishing/reproducing computer pornography, en-US transmitting personal electronic information harmful to minor, en-US and use of a two-way communication device to facilitate felony. en-US Jason Shepherd, 23, of Springdale Boulevard, Palm Springs, en-US was arrested Oct. 17 and charged with interfering with railroad en-US track or equipment, trespassing on property other than structure/en-US conveyance, and criminal mischief $1,000 or more.en-US Davaun Spires, 20, of Leo Lane, Riviera Beach, was arrested en-US Oct. 17 and charged with burglary of occupied structure/conveyen-US -en-US ance unarmed.en-US Shawn Christie, 41, homeless, of Stuart, was arrested Oct. 18 en-US and charged with possession of methamphetamine within 1,000 en-US ft of worship structure or business, possession of a controlled en-USsubstance, and possession of drug paraphernalia. en-US Cory Ender, 29, of SE Meadowbrook Avenue, Stuart, was en-US arrested Oct. 18 and charged with two counts illegal use of en-US check/notes/drafts/bills to obtain goods or services $150 dollars en-US or more. en-US Cody Farnum, 25, of SE Morrow Street, Port St. Lucie, was en-US arrested Oct. 18 and charged with burglary, grand theft, and two en-US counts 2nd degree arson.en-US Michael Powell, 34, of SE Horizon Avenue, Stuart, was arresten-US-en-US ed Oct. 18 and charged with possession of ammunition by conen-US -en-US victed felon.en-US Gary Saunders, 44, of S. 11 en-USfor holiday extras. Well be working to en-US ensure that everyone enjoys a holiday dinen-US-en-US ner and healthy, stress-free meals throughen-US-en-US out the season. en-US The season calls for holiday foods such as en-US canned yams, stuffing, and cranberry sauce, en-US but Treasure Coast Food Bank always needs en-US pantry staples, such as peanut butter, pasta, en-US low-sodium canned vegetables, shelf-stable en-US milk, canned meats, beans, and low-sugar en-US cereals.en-US There are several ways to get involved: en-US Organize a food drive in your neighboren-US -en-US hood or office, participate in a virtual food en-US drive with a cash donation, or plan to donate en-US a turkey during Treasure Coast Food Banks en-US annual Turkey Drop. Turkey Drop takes en-US place on Saturday, Nov. 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 en-US p.m. en-US The Thanksgiving tradition of a turkey en-US dinner is part of our American culture, so en-US we try to supply as many turkeys as we can en-US to our partner agencies and families in en-US need, Cruz said. We appreciate everyone en-US who helps us make this happen each year by en-US donating turkeys at our Turkey Drop. en-US On Turkey Drop Saturday, Treasure Coast en-US Food Banks refrigerated trucks will be staen-US -en-US tioned at several drop-off locations throughen-US-en-US out the Treasure Coast where people can en-US donate an uncooked, frozen turkey. There were two or three of those en-US [experts] that actually owned courses, and en-US their uniform suggestion was you dont en-US make money at a clubhouse. Thats really en-US not an investment, thats a loss and curen-US -en-US rently thats not a good investment of taxen-US -en-US payers money.en-US Commissioner Heard concurred, saying en-US the construction of any future clubhouse en-US should be tied to the performance of the en-US course after all other improvements have en-US been made. She also favored eliminating en-US half the holes of the Blue & Gold Course en-US after Mr. Abbate admitted that section had en-US much less rounds than the Red & White en-US Course.en-US That means were paying a whole lot of en-US maintenance for 18 holes that not very many en-US people are using, she said. If were going to en-US move forward, then lets concentrate on Red en-US & White improvements and see how that en-US goes. Lets see if our revenues are up and en-US then make a decision about the clubhouse.en-US The majority of the Commission, howeven-US -en-US er, said a clubhouse should be a priority and en-US not an afterthought. en-US And after [playing] golf they have what is en-US known as the 19th hole, Chairman Ciampi en-US explained. Its when you go after the round en-US and you talk about how you played, you en-US have a drink and youre in the air conditionen-US -en-US ing and youre just relaxing for a little bit. A en-US golf course has to have a clubhouse, and it en-US can be modest but to say we should have en-US none, is wrong. en-US All the commissioners agreed that new en-US bathrooms were a necessity and that golfers en-US were tired of having to use portable toilets en-US installed to replace the bathrooms eliminaten-US-en-US ed when the old clubhouse was torn down a en-US few years ago.en-US Here we are today four years later still en-US with no clubhouse, no adequate bathroom en-US facilities and were wondering why our en-US rounds are going down, Commissioner en-US Smith fumed. Youve got to have a cluben-US en-UShouse, you just cant put toilets out there for en-US people because thats not what they want. en-US Our other parks dont treat constituents in en-US that way, and I dont think we should treat en-US our golfing constituents in that way.en-US The chairman also insinuated that a difen-US -en-US ferent Board majority a few years ago had en-US purposely sabotaged the Municipal Golf en-US Course by tearing down the old clubhouse en-US that he believed could have been gutted and en-US rebuilt for much less money at the time.en-US They could have saved the building, en-US saved a fortune, keeping it back to its historen-US -en-US ic footprint and probably spending hunen-US -en-US dreds of thousands or a million dollars and en-US creating a clubhouse with the bones of the en-US original one, he explained. en-US Commissioner Smith concurred.en-US The Board at the time wanted nothing to en-US do with that and tore it down, and I think en-US that cost us 10,000 rounds a year, he said. en-US Clearly the facts prove that was not a good en-US decision, and we should never have torn en-US that building down without a plan to replace en-US it.en-US Commissioner Fielding, however, en-US defended the decision by the former Board en-US majority and stood by his vote to tear down en-US the aging structure.en-US The existing clubhouse had asbestos and en-US black mold and there were immediate health en-US issues, he insisted. We had to shut those en-US serious long term health issues down -that en-US was the reality. en-US For his part, Mr. Abbate urged the Comen-US -en-US mission to take some sort of positive action en-US that day in order to see conditions at the en-US municipal course improve. en-US Without having some sort of improveen-US-en-US ment to the golf course, we are not going to en-US see any new golfers going forward, our costs en-US will continue to increase, and our subsidy en-US quite frankly will continue to increase, he en-US said.en-US Before Commissioner Smith could make en-US his planned motion of accepting staffs recen-US -en-US ommendation of a scaled-down clubhouse en-US but with the future potential elimination of en-US nine holes, Commissioner Fielding beat en-US him to the punch with an alternative en-US motion. en-US Id like to make a motion that we request en-US staff to go forward with the design that en-US would improve the course, that we would en-US reduce to 27 holes, that there would be bathen-US -en-US rooms at the start and that the clubhouse en-US potential would be considered later, he said. en-US Commissioner Heard seconded that en-US motion, and then Chairman Ciampi invited en-US the two public speakers on the topic to en-US address the Board before the vote. The first en-US was Stuart land-use attorney Bob Raines, en-US who emphasized that he had previously en-US spent 15 years as a golf professional and that en-US each of the commissioners had expressed en-US valid points during the discussion..en-US Commissioner Heard is absolutely right, en-US he said. The priority is getting the golf en-US course in condition because its the condien-US-en-US tion of the course that will drive the play -en-US period, end of discussion. Commissioner en-US Fielding is correct in that clubhouses are just en-US loss-leaders however, its important that en-US you have some sort of a clubhouse, and I en-US think the key term is modest.en-US Mr. Raines also agreed with Commissionen-US-en-US er Jenkins change of heart.en-US Commissioner Jenkins is correct in that en-US we need to have 27 holes -36 holes makes en-US absolutely no sense financially, he added. en-US The sweet spot is 27 holes. Commissioner en-US Ciampi and Smith are right in that we need en-US some sort of clubhouse facility at the beginen-US -en-US ning, so like I said, I think its a mixture of en-US all of those, and thats really kind of the en-US sweet spot. en-US The second public speaker, Dwight en-US Caserta of Jensen Beach, expressed a new en-US insight, insisting Golf Course administraen-US -en-US tion needed to improve customer service at en-US the municipal course.en-US it is too hard to get on this golf course to en-US golf, he said. You have to pay to put your en-US tee times on credit cards and that has to end, en-US Because if somebody calls out, now I got to en-US pay for that, because I usually make tee en-US times for my friends. Seriously, one of you en-US guys needs to go in like a regular person and en-US see how rude these people are. It takes 10 en-US minutes to pay, theyre on the computer, en-US theyre on the phone and the people are en-US stacked up behind. Me and four people en-US walked out because we couldnt even pay.en-US Commissioner Jenkins expressed concern en-US about such alleged treatment, and Chairen-US -en-US man Ciampi assured Mr. Caserta that Golf en-US Course administration would check in to en-US his complaints before calling the vote on en-US Commissioner Fieldings motion. That en-US motion failed 2-3, with Commissioners Ciaen-US -en-US mpi, Jenkins and Smith dissenting.\en-US The subsequent motion by Commissionen-US-en-US er Smith to amend the Capital Improvement en-US Project sheet to include the clubhouse and en-US other Golf Course improvements including en-US the elimination of exotic vegetation and the en-US potential future elimination of nine holes en-US passed 3-2. en-US en-USHolidayen-USFrom page 1en-USGolfen-USFrom page 10

Garden Mums are a staple to the en-US holiday season and represent the end of en-US summer and the beginning of fall. Mums en-US are actually fairly easy to grow and can en-US withstand both low and high humidity en-US situations. Mums can actually mimic the en-US look of other flowers such as the smaller en-US flower of a daisy (Daisy Mums) or the en-US larger and fancier varieties that can almost en-US look like Roses. You can get Chrysantheen-US -en-US mum plants in almost every color but blue.en-US Mums have been around for a long time en-US and I am sure that many of you have helped en-US your parents or grandparents display these en-US colorful gems during the holidays. Most of en-US the varieties that we use here in North en-US America are simply known as Garden en-US Mums with the botanical classification of en-US Dendranthea grandiflorum. About 80% of en-US all garden Mums are sold during the fall en-US and early winter. The reason that these en-US colorful plants burst into bloom in fall is en-US because the shorter days, cooler temperaen-US -en-US tures and longer nights all contribute to the en-US triggering mechanism that causes these en-US plants to burst into color. Since this winter en-US is going be an El Nino winter, the forecast is en-US for a wet and cool winter season in Florida. en-US This should be great weather for Mums and en-US other winter flowers that love cooler en-US temperatures!en-US Many people simply buy their Mums in en-US the fall already in bloom from retailers en-US while still others like to plant their own en-US plants and watch them mature and bloom en-US in their own gardens. If you decide to try en-US planting your own, do so in the spring so en-US the root systems can have a chance to get en-US well established to ensure a happy healthy en-US plant. Mums should be planted in a location en-US that will get only a half-day of sun or en-US slightly less. This is especially true in the en-US areas south of Vero Beach. The areas north en-US of Vero Beach will probably have better en-US results with growing Mums in your garden en-US as the harsh effects of the sun are slightly en-US lessened. You can ensure you will get more en-US flowers in the fall if you pinch back the top en-US inch or so of growth about every 3 weeks en-US until about mid July. This process will help en-US to promote heavy flowing in the fall. Please en-US note you only do the above process if you en-US plan on growing and maintaining your en-US garden Mums on a year round basis. en-US Mums will grow in a variety of soils as en-US long as it is well drained. Mums do not en-US require a lot of fertilizer but will appreciate en-US a light feeding about once a month with a en-US water-soluble fertilizer such as Miracle Gro. en-US It will also help if you stake your plants, as en-US this will help them to support themselves en-US and keep the heavy Florida rains from en-US knocking them over.en-US If you plan on only using your Mums as a en-US potted decoration for the holidays, many of en-US the same rules will apply. Keep the plant in en-US a bright, well-lit area of the house and do en-US not let the plant get too dry between en-US watering cycles. Remember that potted en-US plants will dry out much faster then plants en-US that are placed in the ground. A/C will also en-US have an impact on your plants moisture en-US level.en-US As you can see, having and taking care of en-US Mums does not have to be difficult. en-US Growing and viewing these plants can have en-US so many rewards that any work involved in en-US keeping them looking nice will be well en-US worth it.en-US Contact Joe Zelenak at en-UShometownen-US -en-US garden@gmail.comen-US or visit his websiteen-US www.en-US hometowngarden.com. The course is usually in much en-US better shape, the clubhouse and locker en-US rooms are available at all times and then en-US there is the socialization that you enjoy with en-US fellow members. en-US If you are looking for a private, memen-US -en-US ber-owned golf home community, I would en-US like to suggest that you put Pipers Landing en-US Yacht & Country Club in Palm City atop en-US your list. When consider the initial en-US contribution, the refundable contribution, en-US monthly dues and fees, this club comes out en-US as one of the least expensive private clubs, en-US and best values, on the Treasure Coast.en-US No one enjoys a club where you are en-US constantly fighting for tee times, or court en-US time, or to get a table in the dining room. en-US With only 302 residences and no outside en-US memberships available, the course, tennis en-US courts, and clubhouse are never en-US over-crowded. Thats not to say that no one en-US is there, its just that there is the right en-US amount of elbow room for each member.en-US The newly renovated clubhouse isnt huge en-US and ostentatious. At 29,000-square feet en-US there is just the right amount of space for en-US the pro shops, dining room, locker rooms en-US and more. A new lifestyle center has been en-US added allowing members to enjoy exercise en-US classes, wool activities, massages and spa en-US services.en-US Just this year Pipers Landing was en-US awarded the 2018 Best Private Club in en-US Martin and Port St. Lucie by readers of the en-US Hometown Newsen-US And those are some very en-US smart readers. In 2017, Indian River en-US Magazine named the club the Best Place to en-US Play Golf.en-US The membership structure is simple. en-US Everyone is a full golf member and en-US everyone pays the same amount. This en-US creates a harmonious community and en-US financial stability for the club. The golf en-US course is the communitys greatest asset and en-US having everyone support it, makes for a en-US first-class club and community.en-US A couple weekends ago, I was invited by en-US Pegi Austin, the clubs Membership and en-US Marketing Coordinator, to come out and en-US experience Pipers Landing first-hand. I en-US brought a colleague along for the experien-US -en-US ence.en-US When you arrive at Pipers Landing, the en-US first thing you notice is how beautiful and en-US well-kept the landscaping is. Every yard is en-US pristine, the common areas are groomed to en-US perfection, the flowers are in bloom, the en-US staff is warm and friendly. You feel relaxed en-US almost immediately.en-US While everything leading up to that first en-US tee shot may relax you, the golf course itself en-US can be as challenging or relaxing as you en-US desire. The par-72 layout has six sets of tees en-US with a course rating ranging from 66.1 to en-US 74.2, and a slope rating that ranges from en-US 122 to 149.en-US Pipers Landing was designed in 1984 by en-US native Floridian, Joe Lee, and measures as en-US long as 6,922 yards from the tips. Lee has en-US designed and renovated more than 250 en-US courses in his career, including Bay Hill, en-US Dorals Blue Monster, LaCosta, and Cog en-US Hill. Lee is famous for his straightforward en-US designs. No fancy bells and whistles, or en-US gimmicks, just a course thats easy on the en-US eyes and fun for golfers of every level.en-US A redesign in 2007 by Gene Bates en-US bettered the courses drainage and irrigation en-US while maintaining the original integrity and en-US design principles.en-US The course is a wonderful blend of en-US challenge and fun, with conditions that rival en-US the best courses you will play. Playing from en-US the correct set of tees, one will find en-US themselves hitting nearly every club in the en-US bag. en-US The toughest hole on the course comes en-US up quickly. The par-5 second hole features a en-US split fairway with the preferred side being en-US narrowed by bunkers and out-of-bounds. en-US Not many reach the green in two. In fact, en-US my colleague decided to play in the sand the en-US entire way to the green.en-US The par-4 10th hole is one that may be en-US played a myriad of ways. Its not very long, en-US but there is a large oak guarding the en-US approach to the green. Hit your drive long en-US enough and its not much of a factor. Hit en-US short and you face a longer approach en-US through a narrow gap. Hit your tee ball just en-US right and you have to go over it.en-US At the par-4 14th, you are again posed a en-US challenge. There is a brook running across en-US the fairway. You can layup or drive over it. en-US The longer your drive, the easier the en-US approach will be. I want a mulligan on this en-US hole!en-US The finishing holes are wonderful, with en-US the 18th having a severe dogleg to the right en-US with plenty of bunkers guarding the turn. en-US The more daring you are, the shorter your en-US approach.en-US The best thing about finishing your en-US round at Pipers Landing, is that you can en-US now enjoy a wonderful meal. The club en-US features some of the most delicious meals. en-US After our round, while we discussed how en-US fantastic the course conditions were and en-US how much we loved the course, we enjoyed en-US a shrimp poo boy sandwich, French dip, en-US lobster bisque, and cold beverages. We en-US topped it off with some of the clubs famous en-US cookies. Ill go back just for the food! en-US If you would like to find out more about en-US Pipers Landing Yacht & Country or en-US schedule your own personal tour, please call en-US Pegi Austin at (772) 283-7000 or visit the en-US website at en-US www.piperslanding.comen-US en-USJames Stammer has been an avid golfer en-US and golf enthusiast for nearly 40 years. 17 en-USBen-USird flu, botulism, e. Coli, salmonella, en-US food terrorists whats happening to en-US my America? en-US Are we heading for a major food en-US poisoning outbreak by eating food? Is en-US Dooms Day near? Well take a deep breath, en-US and listen very carefully to what I m about en-US to say. NO, NO, NO and NO. en-US I would like to share a trip I made en-US recently to prove my point. My wife and I en-US were on a trout fishing trip in Clarksville, en-US Ga., staying with some friends. While I was en-US there, I cooked for the family and some en-US friends one night. During the evening, one en-US of the guests came to me and asked if I en-US would consider taking a tour of his food en-US plant, which was nearby and possibly give en-US him some culinary ideas. I told him I would en-US be happy to. I later found out they had done en-US a security and background check on me en-US before I was asked to tour the plant. en-US The facility is closed to the public due to en-US strict security. My friend had set this all up en-US to surprise me beforehand, knowing I en-US would like to tour the plant. The company en-US was the Fieldale Farms Corp., the largest en-US producer of cut chicken in the world. The en-US packs of cut up chicken that you see in en-US Publix and Winn-Dixie are just a few of en-US their products. en-US The tour began with a brief introduction en-US by the CEO. I was then given a personal en-US security detail to take me through the plant. en-US We entered the clean room and given a en-US smock, rubber booties up to the knee and a en-US hospital hair covering. She used a remote en-US control device to open a door to the wash en-US room as we walked in a disinfectant form en-US sprayed across the floor. We walked en-US through this suds to the sinks, which were en-US foot activated. She watched as I washed my en-US hands for one minute with antiseptic soap en-US and then I rinsed my hands with an en-US antiseptic solution. I was given sleeve en-US covers, which went from my wrist to elbow en-US and then gloves to overlap the wrist. en-US She activated the exit door, and we en-US entered a long corridor first walking en-US through another antiseptic foam spray. en-US This process would be repeated several en-US times as we entered each department. en-US Nowhere could you smell poultry. It is the en-US cleanest facility I have ever seen. en-US They process chicken from eggs to fried en-US chicken tenders. All chicks are sprayed with en-US an antibacterial growth agent. The feeding en-US sheds are large to prevent overcrowding and en-US stress on the chickens, resulting in a bigger en-US and tender product. The Humane Society of en-US America has awarded them a Best Practice en-US Award the last three years. All employees en-US are required to go through the same en-US procedures I had followed. All poultry is en-US X-rayed and run through a metal detector en-US before packaging. en-US The cutting tool is a high speed water jet, en-US which slices like a knife and can be en-US programmed for any size or shape. Human en-US hands never touch the product and it en-US moved from one area to another by en-US pneumatic plastic tubes and conveyor belts en-US to box. At every stage the product is tested en-US for temperature and bacteria count. en-US This company is an example of what is en-US happening in Americas beef, poultry, and en-US pork companies. Across the country, food en-US manufacturers are initiating these proceen-US -en-US dures. Is our food safe?en-US For those naysayers who state food was en-US safer when I was young or back in the good en-US old days, well the good old days werent so en-US good. In the early 1900s, people lived to the en-US average ripe old age of 50. Hot dogs were en-US full of mystery meat. Today we have truth en-US in labeling and sanitation policies that are en-US the envy of the world. Is it perfect? No, but en-US it is better than in any time of our history. en-US Speaking of chicken try this recipe.en-USROASTED CHICKENen-USIngredientsen-US 8 pieces of cut chicken with bone; mix it en-US up, dark and white piecesen-US 3/4-cups melted butteren-US 1 tablespoon olive oilen-US 2 teaspoons oregano leavesen-US 2 cloves of fresh garlic, cleaned and en-US minced smallen-US 2 cups chicken stocken-US Juice from two fresh lemonsen-US 2 baking potatoes cut lengthwise, cut in en-US four pieces eachen-US 1 cup red onion sliced en-US 1 cup celery, cut in 1 inch piecesen-US 1 cup carrots, cut in 1 inch piecesen-US Directionsen-US Place celery, onion and carrot on bottom en-US ofen-US a shallow roasting pan.
