I am a Florida native who grew up on en-US the Treasure Coast, and our district is my en-US home to this day. My family goes back several en-US generations as pioneers of Old Florida. My en-US grandfather was stationed at Camp Blanding en-US where he met my grandmother in St. Augusen-US -en-US tine. All of my great uncles also served in en-US World War II from Florida. My uncle Julian en-US Pfaff retired as a colonel with the Florida en-US National Guard.en-US My mother served as a postulant nun and en-US then a novitiate as a Sister of Saint Joseph at en-US the Saint Joseph College of Florida (where the en-US Tuckahoe Mansion en-US now sits). She left the en-US novitiate before maken-US -en-US ing final vows. My en-US Aunt Marie Nader is en-US a Florida fashion icon en-US and was a legendary en-US designer during Florien-US -en-US das glamour age and continued all the way en-US through her retirement when she sold her en-US exclusive dress shop, the Amavon on King en-US Street in St. Augustine, now the site of the en-US Casa Monica Hotel. I perform insuren-US -en-US ance and damage assessments for everything en-US ranging from residential and commercial en-US buildings, to vehicles, crops, boats, aircraft, en-US and catastrophe and ecological disasters. en-US What is the biggest issue concerning en-US your community right now and if elected, en-US how do you plan on solving that issue? en-US I am very concerned about the problems en-US that have continued in the area for decades, en-US despite fly by night politicians who move to en-US the area to run for office and then leave after en-US being replaced. Neither Democrats nor en-US Republicans have sufficiently addressed the en-US toxic algae dumps which have turned the en-US waterways black, killing fish, birds, dozens of en-US manatees and damaging fragile ecosystems in en-US our estuaries. I am also concerned with the en-US toll illegal immigration has had on the state, Curvaceous 927 NE Jensen Beach Blvd. 772.334.2151Mon.-Sat. 10am-5pm www.jewelrydesignstudio.net Face Lift Breast Augmentation Eyes CoolSculpting 309 SE Osceola Street | Suite 201 | Stuart, FL 34994 Villar Plastic Surgery Dr. Luis F. First I'll help you en-US teach many of our drivers to either slow en-US down, obey the speed limit and refer to tge en-US state laws or take a refresher course. In 14 en-US years I've lost count of near misses because en-US of improper driving (too fast, too sliw, no en-US turn signal, going thru red lights and stop en-US signs). en-US Wake up folks, you're at risk as well. en-US A couple of years ago I had a near fatal en-US accident because the driver felt that she had en-US to turn now because she was running late. en-US She thought that she could make make it. en-US Guess what she was late now.en-US For those that like to earn discounts and en-US to save your life and life of others there's a en-US refresher course you can take online. It's en-US worth it and trust me you will learn a few en-US things and be glad that you did. Afterall en-US safety first.en-USVotingen-USWith all the television advertisements and en-US mailers, its hard to know who to believe en-US when it comes to voting. If there is no record en-US to look at, you must educate yourself by en-US looking at the background of the candidate. en-US Sometimes it is easy to understand WHY a en-US person would want to go through the proen-US -en-US cess of an election where their personal life en-US becomes a part of public record. Public seren-US -en-US vants who choose to run are few and far en-US between. Usually, unfortunately, there is a en-US motive behind their desire to serve the puben-US -en-US lic. But there are those willing to put forth en-US the effort to represent you. en-US You can follow the money and sometimes en-US that will help you understand who is behind en-US a candidate and whether that is a factor for en-US your vote. Street signs also catch your eye en-US but are not a good idea to choose a candien-US -en-US date. Whatever your passion is, whether it en-US be to clean up our waterways, better schools, en-US limiting taxes or the future of social security, en-US educate yourself before you go to vote, fill in en-US your sample ballot and check on those you en-US are not sure of by asking questions. Your en-US vote determines everyone's future!en-USSavings bondsen-USI just redeemed a $100 savings bond I en-US bought in 1989. I earned $298 interest on en-US the $100. The problem is that $100 in 1989 en-US is equivalent to $203 in 2018 but they dont en-US adjust the original price for inflation. If they en-US did, they would adjust the original price to en-US $203, reducing the interest to $195. Conen-US -en-US sidering that the government has a goal of en-US promoting inflation, i.e. reducing the value en-US of your money, should they also tax the en-US interest you earn just to keep up?en-USThrow-away animals en-USThat is what our cats and kittens have en-US become. So often when someone moves en-US away they leave their cat behind, in the en-US house or outside, to fend for themselves. We en-US find them under dumpsters, in empty lots, en-US and often wandering around neighboren-US -en-US hoods looking for someone to feed them. en-US Here is a news flash...cats are not self-suffien-US -en-US cient. They rely on their humans to feed en-US them and give them love and attention. en-US They are much safer inside than out, and if en-US abandoned outside will survive as best they en-US can by eating garbage, rats, mice, and gecken-US -en-US os, all of which can make them very sick. en-US Abandoned cats who wander neighboren-US -en-US hoods looking for someone to take care of en-US them often face people who chase them en-US away or worse. Add to that the possibility en-US that they are not fixed, and we wind up with en-US kittens born outside and even more unwanten-US -en-US ed cats. en-US Yes, we have gotten a little better with en-US spay and rescue programs, as well as trap/en-US fix/release programs, BUT, shelters need our en-US help. They need volunteers. Shelters rely en-US heavily on volunteers and donations to stay en-US up and running. Donations such as food en-US and cat litter are always needed, but volunen-US-en-US teers to help scoop out litter boxes, and nuren-US -en-US ture and spend time with the animals are en-US also crucial. en-US Foster families are also needed. Fostering en-US an animal to get them out of the shelters and en-US into home environments, ready for adopen-US -en-US tion, is a great alternative to permanent en-US adoption if you are not quite ready for the en-US commitment of adoption. You might think, en-US "How can I take an adorable cat or kitten en-US into my house and then give them up?" I do en-US it by thinking of myself as their grand en-US-en-US mother. I love them and take care of them en-US and then hand them over to their forever en-US home, knowing I helped prepare them to be en-US there. en-US Have you considered making volunteeren-US -en-US ing at Dogs and Cats Forever or another en-US no-kill shelter such as Domino's House in en-US Palm City a family activity for you and your en-US kids? Are you retired? If so, perhaps you en-US have a few hours a week to dedicate to volen-US -en-US unteering? How about church or school en-US community service projects for teenagers en-US over 15? Animal therapy is good for the en-US soul, and the animals will benefit from the en-US attention more than you know. It is a win-en-US win situation. Please consider calling the en-US shelter of your choice and asking how you en-US can help. en-US Did you know the Humane Society canen-US -en-US not turn you away if you bring them a stray en-US animal? They are state-funded and they en-US must take the animals brought to them. If en-US you are turned away, please call your county en-US commissioner and let them know. en-US Wouldn't it be nice if more people took an en-US active role in reducing the population of en-US stray and unwanted animals?en-USIncorporationen-USWhy is there no information in the en-US Hometown News about the Hobe Sound en-US Incorporation initiative? This issue is en-US extremely important to the future of not en-US only Hobe Sound but the entire area. en-US Most of the current discussion on both en-US sides of this subject is filled with name callen-US -en-US ing, accusations, and confusing representaen-US-en-US tions of what may or can happen if voters en-US elect incorporation. The only thing people en-US on both sides agree on is that there will be en-US more development. en-US We need the true unbiased facts about en-US what incorporation will mean. What will en-US the impact be on municipal services and en-US taxes? Why dont we have five and ten year en-US financial projections? Who will be the en-US elected representatives and what qualificen-US -en-US tions do they need? en-US It appears certain that developers will en-US make money if this goes through, but at en-US what impact and cost to the residents? en-US 8 my students both scientifically and mathe en-US-en-US matically. This will ensure they are exercisen-US-en-US ing all parts of their brains.en-US The simulators at the Huntsville program en-US helped Ms. Russo relive her 12-year-old en-US desire to attend Space Camp.en-US Training as an astronaut was amazing, en-US she said. The multi-axis trainer spun you en-US around, the zipline drop was exhilarating en-US and the helicopter submersion in the water en-US put your survival skills to the test. We were en-US all like little children living out our astroen-US -en-US naut fantasies.en-US Apart from the simulator experiences, en-US HESA incorporates 45 hours of classroom en-US and laboratory instruction focused on scien-US -en-US ence, space exploration and developing en-US leadership skills. Ms. Russo said the most en-US challenging aspect of the program was the en-US simulation missions, which actually put her en-US leadership capabilities to the test. en-US We did one mission to Mars where I was en-US the mission commander on the capsule and en-US we were the first to colonize Mars, the Scoten-US -en-US land native explained. The other simulated en-US mission was a shuttle mission to the Interen-US -en-US national Space Station. I was Cap Com on en-US this mission, and I was required to facilitate en-US communication between the shuttle and en-US Mission Control. There were so many buten-US -en-US tons and directions -it was extremely comen-US -en-US plicated. We followed a script, but it was en-US made even more complicated with the addien-US-en-US tion of several international team members en-US whos first language was not English. In the en-US end it was great fun, but a little stressful.en-US Honeywell Hometown Solutions and en-US USSRC created the HESA program in 2004 en-US to encourage middle school science and en-US math teachers to continue their own scienen-US-en-US tific education, as well as promoting science, en-US technology, engineering and mathematic en-US lessons in the classroom. More than 3,000 en-US teachers have attended the Space Academy en-US since that time.en-US Mike Bennett, president of HHS, said one en-US of HESAs objectives is to help educators en-US build a global network in order to better en-US develop goals in teaching the sciences. en-US Teachers dedicate their lives to educaten-US-en-US ing students and preparing them for a world en-US they will one day lead, he said. Today en-US STEM education is no longer about reading en-US from textbooks or memorizing facts and en-US formulas: STEM is about doing. Were proud en-US to invest in teachers, help them improve en-US their teaching techniques and their curricuen-US -en-US lum, and ultimately motivate their students en-US to reach their fullest potential.en-US Ms. Russo, who graduated from the Unien-US -en-US versity of Wisconsin at Madison and en-US received her secondary science education en-US degree from the University of Florida, hopes en-US to stimulate the interest of her students in en-US colonizing the Red Planet one day.en-US These are the kids that are going to see en-US people go to Mars -see their peers go to en-US Mars -and thats extremely exciting, she en-US said. The program shared all the power en-US points and information with us via a Google en-US drive so basically I can take my students to en-US Space Camp. They can participate in the en-US Mars Lander and Rover challenges and en-US share in all the amazing stories I heard en-US about. en-US Dr. Deborah Barnhart, the CEO and en-US executive director of USSRC, said the orgaen-US -en-US nization is thrilled to continue the teacher en-US program at the facility.en-US The opportunity to help these teachers en-US ignite their students passion in space, scien-US-en-US ence and technology is one we at USSRC en-US look forward to each year, she said. en-US 9 en-USdark because he failed to find information en-US on the countys website about the Fire Disen-US -en-US tricts town hall meetings on the subject. en-US I oppose the fire assessment fee as a en-US backdoor way of raising taxes, he said. The en-US taxpayers of Martin County have spoken en-US twice loud and clear: We dont want our en-US taxes raised.en-US The Commission had previously voted en-US 4-1 July 10 with Commissioner Sarah Heard en-US dissenting to accept the Fire-Rescue plan of en-US a 2.61 millage rate that would include a en-US hardship exemption for county residents en-US struggling financially. According to staff en-US projections that evening, a typical single en-US family home valued at $236,980 would pay en-US about $519 annually after factoring in a en-US $50,000 homestead exemption. Commercial en-US rates would vary according to square footen-US -en-US age. County Administrator Taryn Kryzda en-US admitted the county should probably tweak en-US the public meeting portion of its website but en-US insisted the Fire-Rescue Department needen-US-en-US ed a new funding source with the potential en-US new homestead exemption on the ballot this en-US fall. en-US The estimated impact of the additional en-US $25,000 in homestead exemption is $2 milen-US -en-US lion to the Fire-Rescue MSTU, so the assessen-US -en-US ment is a mechanism that makes it a more en-US fair playing field relative to our fire services, en-US she said. en-US Ms. Kryzda also apologized for not bringen-US-en-US ing the issue to the Commission sooner, en-US attributing the delay to the need to find the en-US best consultant to guide the county through en-US the process. Commissioner Heard based her en-US original opposition on the timing of the disen-US -en-US cussions and continued her opposition en-US during the commissioner comment portion en-US of the latest meeting. en-US I didnt support the fire assessment fee, en-US and one of the reasons I didnt support it is I en-US thought it was too hasty, she said. I thought en-US we were rushing into it and werent giving en-US the public an opportunity to understand en-US what we were doing. The consultant promen-US -en-US ised us that when the Board majority voted en-US to support the fire assessment fee, that there en-US would be lots of public outreach, and I haven-US-en-US ent seen that. I went to the Hoke Library en-US meeting and zero people attended, so were en-US obviously not doing enough to educate the en-US public.en-US Commissioner Heard also complained en-US that the county had yet to send out letters to en-US county residents explaining the new fee and en-US how it would affect their tax bills going out en-US in the fall. She reacted even stronger when en-US Ms. Kryzda said they were scheduled to go en-US out Aug. 21 at the consultants advice, en-US I dont think that hiding that informaen-US-en-US tion from the public until a week before you en-US take final action is public outreach, she en-US fumed. Thats been a month that weve had en-US to inform residents, and we havent. en-US Commission Chairman Ed Ciampi disen-US-en-US agreed, saying he had personally witnessed en-US the countys outreach to the public on the en-US issue.en-US Obviously Commissioner Heard is en-US opposed to the fire assessment and the timen-US -en-US ing and the way it was brought forward, but en-US with that in mind, there is a large group of en-US folks that have been making presentations, en-US he said. Its not uncommon when the counen-US -en-US ty has meetings that we dont necessarily en-US have a large turnout. That doesnt mean that en-US the meeting was a secret or that it wasnt en-US properly noticed. I know that commissionen-US-en-US ers have town hall meetings, and sometimes en-US theyre crowded, sometimes theyre not.en-US Chairman Ciampi then asked staff to en-US invite Fire Chief Bill Schobel to the meeting en-US so he could personally respond to Commisen-US-en-US sioner Heards allegations. Chief Schobel en-US said the first thing his staff did as part of the en-US outreach effort was to launch a social media en-US blitz but agreed that turnout had been weak en-US at some town hall meetings. en-US There have been thousands of views of en-US the video that was put out on our website, en-US and also the FAQ sheet, he said. A lot of en-US folks are reading through that and underen-US -en-US standing the concept of what were doing. As en-US for last week, I was personally involved in en-US four presentations, and I agree with you en-US commissioner, the one that we were at en-US together, nobody showed up in Jensen. But en-US we did have six people show up in Salerno. en-US We met just last week with the Taxpayers en-US Association and business leaders around en-US Martin County, and it was very good discusen-US -en-US sion.en-US As far as the letters going out in August, en-US Chief Schobel said they had been delayed to en-US ensure accuracy with the property appraisen-US -en-US ers office due to the high cost of mailings. en-US Ms. Kryzda confirmed the $88,000 price tag en-US to send each county resident a notice. en-US We had to have Board direction to even en-US proceed with the letter, and this is an arduen-US -en-US ous process, he emphasized. We actually en-US began this last year, and its step-by-step we en-US have to move through this, because our stat en-US-en-US utory guidelines pretty much dictate the en-US process. There are upwards of 70,000 en-US improved properties across the county, and en-US we have to make sure, check, double-check en-US and so forth because there is a large finanen-US-en-US cial responsibility with sending these letters en-US out, and we dont want them to be incoren-US -en-US rect.en-US Although Commissioner Ed Fielding en-US voted with the Board majority in July due to en-US the inclusion of the hardship exemption, he en-US has consistently expressed doubt that the en-US new system would be completely fair to all en-US taxpayers. en-US My underlying concern is its a lack of en-US equity, he said. So were going from one en-US system to another system and the system en-US that were going to -in my view -could be en-US refined quite a bit in order for that to be a en-US much more equitable system all the way en-US around. My concern is that we were not taken-US -en-US ing the steps that we could to maintain a staen-US-en-US ble source of income.en-US In spite of the negative comments en-US expressed during the meeting, Chief Schoen-US-en-US bel maintained a defensive line on the new en-US methodology his team was putting in place. en-US Simply put, its a better way to fund your en-US fire-rescue department, he explained. Its a en-US more stable and equitable way of doing so; en-US thats why many, many counties and municien-US -en-US palities across the state have embraced this.en-US The county still had two town hall meeten-US -en-US ings on the proposed Fire District assessen-US -en-US ment fee scheduled as of press time, includen-US -en-US ing one beginning at 6 p.m. Aug. 23 at the en-US Peter & Julie Cummings Library and anothen-US-en-US er beginning at 5 p.m. Aug. 29 in the Hobe en-US Sound Public Library. The County Comen-US -en-US mission will make its final determination on en-US the assessment beginning at 9 a.m. Sept. 11 en-US in the Commission Chambers at 2401 S.E. en-US Monterey Road in Stuart. en-US 10 en-USI en-USwas backing up some data a while back en-US to an external USB drive, when I en-US noticed a behavior that is not uncomen-US -en-US mon at all.en-US As I began backing up the contents of a en-US rather bloated documents folder (several en-US hundred gigabytes worth of data), during en-US the copy process I noticed the estimated en-US time remaining figure was jumping all en-US over the place.en-US It started out saying something like 48 en-US minutes remaining, and then jumped down en-US to 30, 18 and then 11 minutes.en-US As I watched the file copy process en-US progress, I noticed the estimated time en-US remaining figure stayed at 11 minutes for en-US more than an hour. The progress bar was en-US moving slowly to the right, and just as I en-US thought the file transfer was just about en-US over, the progress bar jumped back about a en-US third of the way across.en-US The time remaining figure jumped to a en-US whopping 25,464,387 minutes. Consulting en-US my trusty calculator watch, I figured that en-US 25,464,387 minutes was the equivalent of en-US 17,683 days or 48 years. No, that couldnt be en-US right.en-US As I watched, the number bounced en-US around some, dropping from the incredibly en-US high 25 million mark and dropping to more en-US manageable numbers, such as 45 minutes, en-US 28 and once again 11 minutes and there it en-US stayed for another 45 minutes.en-US I finally got fed up with watching (its like en-US watching paint dry) and shut off the en-US monitor, so I dont know when it actually en-US finished. But when I came back to it in the en-US morning, the file copy was complete. And it en-US didnt take 48 years. But it got me thinking; en-US what is this estimated time remaining en-US business all about, and can that figure ever en-US be trusted?en-US Ive certainly seen that behavior before en-US with other file copy operations, downloads en-US from the internet, CD burning and other en-US similar procedures, and Ive always taken en-US that number with a grain of salt, but that 25 en-US million figure caught my attention. What is en-US going on with this picture?en-US Well, in order to understand why that en-US number fluctuates so wildly, its necessary en-US to keep in mind that, on any given en-US computer, whats happening at any given en-US moment is not necessarily the way things en-US are going to happen in the next moment. en-US So the estimated part of estimated time en-US remaining is just that an estimate based on en-US the conditions taken at that particular time en-US slice. And what happens, from secen-US -en-US ond-to-second is those conditions are en-US changing. Rapidly. Tai chi is an en-US internal Chinese martial art practiced for en-US both its defense training and its health en-US benefits. From roughly the mid-1990s en-US onward, Tai Chi has gained a popularity in en-US some countries to the point of it becoming en-US nearly as known as a health-oriented en-US practice as Yoga. Then it bases its en-US estimate of how long it will take on that. en-US But that estimate does not take into en-US account things such as the overhead en-US activity between the device and the en-US computer and how much of the buffer is en-US still available, etc., you know, lots of other en-US technical things that are happening at the en-US same time as the data transfer.en-US Let me rephrase it like this: As soon as en-US the file transfer starts, all the figures the en-US computer based its estimate on change, en-US because of the dynamic way computers do en-US things.en-US What that boils down to is the estimaten-US -en-US ed time for transfer is rarely accurate, en-US because the conditions are constantly en-US changing and cant be relied on, especialen-US -en-US ly when it predicts that it will take 48 en-US years.en-US One question that is bound to come up en-US is: Is this strictly a Windows issue? and en-US to that I would have to say no. Ive en-US observed the same behavior on my Macs en-US as well as other operating systems.en-US So that, in a nutshell, is an explanation en-US for the never-accurate estimated time en-US remaining issue that Im sure weve all en-US experienced at one time or another.en-US I would personally like to see them do en-US away with the estimated time figure and en-US just stick with a graphical progress meter. en-US That would make a whole lot more sense en-US than the arbitrary numbers we get now, en-US and they are easier to read at a glance.en-US Sean McCarthy fixes computers. en-US 19 en-USEarl Stewart is the owner and general en-US manager of Earl Stewart Toyota in North en-US Palm Beach. The dealership is located at en-US 1215 N. Federal Highway in Lake Park. en-US Contact him at en-USwww.earlstewarttoyota.com, en-US call 561-358-1474, fax 561-658-0746 or en-US emailen-US earl@estoyota.com.en-USHen-USopefully by now, all but my newest en-US readers know about the infamous en-US Dealer Fee. If you dont know, its a en-US hidden price increase on the car you en-US purchase disguised to look like a federal, en-US state, or local tax or fee. Its 100% profit to en-US the dealer. Dealer Fee is the generic name en-US for this disguised profit, but it goes by many en-US names such as doc fee, dealer prep fee, en-US services fee, administrative fee, electronic en-US filing fee, e-filing fee, tag agency fee, en-US pre-delivery fee, etc. The names are only en-US limited by car dealers imaginations. Almost en-US all car dealers in Florida charge a Dealer en-US Fee. The dealer fees range from around en-US $600 to as high as $2,000.en-US This is the Florida law that is supposed to en-US regulate the Dealer Fee: The advertised en-US price must include all fees or charges that en-US the customer must pay excluding state and en-US local taxes. The law also requires that the en-US Dealer Fee must be disclosed to the buyer en-US as follows: This charge represents costs en-US and profits to the dealer for items such as en-US inspecting, cleaning, and adjusting vehicles en-US and preparing documents related to the en-US sale.en-US This law is very weak and virtually never en-US enforced. When enforced, it isnt enforced en-US by the letter of the law; it is done to en-US accommodate the car dealers. The law is en-US weak because it requires only that the en-US dealer fee be included in the advertised en-US price. The word advertised is narrowly en-US interpreted to mean one specific car shown en-US in an online, Facebook, TV, radio, or print en-US ad. But what about getting a price on the en-US phone, online, or from the salesman? You en-US dont find out about the Dealer Fee until en-US youre in the business office signing a bunch en-US of papers. The dealers get around advertiseen-US -en-US ments very easily by including a number en-US in the fine print. This number is their stock en-US number that designates one specific car. en-US When you respond to the ad, this car is no en-US longer available (sales people are usually en-US not paid a commission for selling the ad en-US car). The advertisement might say many en-US more identical cars are available. Its true en-US that identical cars are available for sale, but en-US they are not available for sale at the sale en-US price because they are not the advertised en-US stock number car. If you buy one of those en-US exact same cars you will pay from $700 to en-US $2,000 more.en-US The reason Im told that the law is rarely en-US enforced is that the Florida Attorney en-US Generals office is understaffed and too en-US busy enforcing other Florida laws. Im also en-US told that Florida car buyers dont file very en-US many complaints against car dealers for en-US violating the Dealer Fee law. I dont believe en-US that there can be too many other infracen-US -en-US tions of the law that take more money en-US annually from consumers than dealer fees en-US take from car buyers. Just en-US one car dealer selling 1,000 en-US cars a year and charging a en-US $1,000 dealer fee is taking a en-US $1 million annually from en-US car buyers. Most car dealers en-US in South Florida sell lot more than 1,000 en-US cars annually and many charge more than en-US $1,000 dealer fee. I believe that the reason en-US more complaints arent filed on the dealer en-US fee is because most car buyers dont know en-US that they are being duped. They either dont en-US notice the fee or assume its an official en-US federal or state fee. Dealer often tell their en-US customers that all dealers charge it and that en-US its required by law.en-US The Attorney General also accommoen-US -en-US dates the dealers by not interpreting the en-US law the way it was intended. For example, en-US the law says that the dealer fee must be en-US included in the advertised price. The en-US Florida Senate has ruled that the law en-US requires that the fee be included rather en-US than specifically delineated. But the en-US Attorney General allows car dealers to en-US advertise car prices without including their en-US dealer fee in the price if they mention their en-US dealer fee in the fine print. They also allow en-US car dealers to simply state in the fine print en-US that they have a Dealer Fee but not even en-US mention the amount. To me they are simply en-US allowing the car dealers to break the law. en-US The Florida Auto Dealers Association en-US (FADA) is the powerful lobbying arm for en-US Florida car dealers. Its almost impossible en-US for a Florida Attorney General to be elected en-US without the support of car dealers and the en-US FADA.en-US Lastly, the required disclosure of the en-US Dealer Fee on the vehicle buyers order or en-US invoice is confusing, misleading, and en-US incorrect: This charge represents costs and en-US profits to the dealer for items such as en-US inspecting, cleaning, and adjusting vehicles en-US and preparing documents related to the en-US sale. It should not say costs because any en-US cost that you pass along to the customer in en-US the price of a product is pure profit. A en-US dealer can pass along his utility bills, sales en-US commissions and advertising if he wants to en-US and call it a dealer fee. It should not say en-US inspecting, cleaning, and adjusting en-US vehicles because all car dealers are en-US reimbursed by the manufacturer for en-US inspecting, cleaning, and adjusting en-US vehicles. en-USSo, what should you do when you are en-US confronted by a car dealer with the Dealer en-US Fee? Besides LEAVE, here are some en-US suggestions that may help you:en-US (1) Make it clear from the very beginning en-US that all prices you discuss must be out-the-en-US door prices. This way you dont care if the en-US dealer fee added up front because you will en-US shop and compare their bottom line price en-US with at least 3 competing car dealers. Ideally en-US you should require that they include tax en-US and tag in that price. If you dont they might en-US try to slip in something they call the en-US electronic filing fee or e filing fee and en-US trick you into believing its part of the en-US license tag and registration.en-US (2) The dealer will often tell you that all en-US car dealers charge Dealer Fees and that they www.dansfancity.com CUT OUT THIS AD FORIN-STORE DISCOUNTS PARTS, SERVICE & INSTALLATION AVAILABLE M-Sat 9a-6p Sun 11a-4p LARGEST SELECTION OF INDOOR & OUTDOOR FANS ANYWHERE! 7 7 2335-8625 10762 S. Simply tell them that you en-US know this is not true and you can cite me en-US and other car dealers like CarMax who do en-US not charge a dealer fee. Print out a copy of en-US this article, show it to them, and tell them en-US that you know that there is no law that says en-US he must charge you a dealer fee.en-US (3) As long as you and the dealer en-US understand that the out-the-door price is en-US the price you will shop and compare with en-US his competition, you dont need to be en-US concerned whether there is a dealer fee en-US showing on the vehicle buyers order. To be en-US competitive, the dealer can simply reduce en-US the price by the amount of his Dealer Fee en-US and the bottom line is what you are en-US comparing.en-US (4) Be aware that dealers usually do not en-US pay their sales people a commission on the en-US amount of their dealer fee. In fact, dealers en-US often misinform their sales people just like en-US they do their customers. The salesman who en-US tells you that the all dealers charge Dealer en-US Fees and that the law requires everyone pay en-US a dealer fee may believe it. Sale people who en-US understand that the Dealer Fee is simply en-US profit to the dealer will be resentful of not en-US being paid their 25% commission on it. A en-US $1,000 dealer fee costs the salesman $250 in en-US commission.en-US (5) When you respond to an advertiseen-US -en-US ment at a specific price for a specific model en-US car, object when the dealer adds the dealer en-US fee. Unfortunately, the law allows him the en-US loophole of claiming that the ad car is a en-US different stock number, but you might be en-US able to shame him into taking off the dealer en-US fee. If you raise a big enough stink, the en-US dealer would be smart to take off the dealer en-US fee than claim that technicality, especially if en-US you were to advise the local TV station or en-US newspaper.en-US (6)www.TrueCar.comis the one third en-US party buying source which requires its certien-US -en-US fied dealers to give you a final price en-US excluding only GOVERNMENT fees en-US onlysales tax and license plate/registraen-US -en-US tion.
