My mother-in-law and father-en-US in-law reside in Port St. Lucie.en-US What are your professional qualificaen-US -en-US tions?en-US I am victims right advocate and small en-US business owner. I have spent over a decade en-US advocating for children and families. I started en-US advocating for abused, abandoned and en-US neglected children at the age of 19 as a Guarden-US-en-US ian ad Litem. I then worked at the public en-US defenders office where I represented over en-US 3,000 clients and gained a unique perspective en-US of the judicial system. I litigated many cases en-US and fought to safeguard our constitutional en-US Rights. en-US After leaving the public defenders office, I en-US helped implement the first injunction for proen-US -en-US tection project in St. Lucie, Indian River and en-US Martin counties, which gave victims of en-US domestic violence (some of which were chilen-US-en-US dren) legal representation in court for the first en-US time ever. I represented more than 400 vicen-US-en-US tims. I have equally been involved in my comen-US -en-US munity serving on boards to combat sexual en-US violence and boards dedicated to raising en-US funds to cover childrens medical expenses. en-US Today, I own and operate my own law pracen-US -en-US tice. en-US What is the biggest issue concerning en-US your community right now and if elected, en-US how do you plan on solving that issue? en-US Cleaning up our waterways is my top prien-US -en-US ority. My plan for our water is simple: advoen-US -en-US cate for federal funding to complete Senate en-US Bill 10, work with the legislature, governor, en-US and our congressional delegation to get the en-US funding we need to make repairs to the Heren-US -en-US bert Hoover Dike, and finally complete projen-US -en-US ects in the Comprehensive Everglades Restoen-US -en-US ration Plan and the Central Everglades en-US Planning Project. The projects are 20 years en-US overdue. We must clean water before it gets to en-US Lake Okeechobee, and these projects will help en-US clean the water and move it south. The legisen-US -en-US lature must also invest in water storage and en-US treatment projects and incentivize homeownen-US-en-US ers to switch from septic to sewer.en-US Toby Overdoren-US fen-US What is your full en-US name and age?en-US Tobin Rogers en-US Toby Overdorf, 49 en-US years olden-US Where do you en-US reside?en-US Palm City en-US Do you have famen-US-en-US ily ties locally?en-US My wife and I live en-US locally. Cleaning our waterways, as en-US well as restoring the northern, central, and en-US southern Everglades, will allow Florida to be en-US strong for our citizens for generations to en-US come. This is my number one, top priority. I en-US will put to use 25 years of working in, on over en-US and under our Florida ecosystem to insure en-US that restoration of our waterways is completen-US -en-US ed. The state en-US will need to be an even en-US greater part of the en-US solution to expedite the en-US critical progress needed. I will work tirelessly en-US to fight for funding necessary to invest in the en-US Emergency Estuary Protection Wells. Over 90 en-US percent of the water inflows to Lake en-US Okeechobee come from the Kissimmee River en-US and its northern tributaries. For his entire term as governor he has en-US been in the hip pocket of Big Sugar and en-US other industrial polluters, and developers en-US who have been allowed to ignore environen-US -en-US mental regulations. He and the republican en-US legislature have refused to implement any en-US controls over pollution discharged into the en-US Lake Okeechobee watershed and have en-US thwarted any attempts to divert water from en-US the lake south instead of east and west.en-US Now he shows up to lament the problem en-US he has had a significant role in causing. He en-US blames Nelson and the Corps of Engineers. en-US I am no big Nelson fan by any means but en-US Scotts abysmal environmental record renen-US -en-US ders his protestations and smearing of Nelen-US-en-US son disingenuous at best. Scott will say en-US whatever he feels will get him elected but as en-US soon as he is in Washington he will conveen-US -en-US niently forget about all of this and our situaen-US -en-US tion will again take a back seat to lobbyists en-US and contributions.en-US Yes, the Corps of Engineers could do a en-US better job. Yes, Nelson has let us down. en-US But Rick Scott has been active in aiding en-US and abetting in the pollution of Lake en-US Okeechobee and our water. Hes pocketed en-US tens of thousands of dollars from the polluten-US-en-US ers and has let them have their way. Dont en-US forget that at the polls.en-USRe: Slow driversen-USI would like to concur with the writer of en-US the rave concerning "Slow Drivers" in the en-US August 3, 2018 issue. I also have driven in en-US several countries and Americans are by far en-US the worst drivers, mostly because they en-US believe they know EVERYTHING when en-US they really don't. en-US For example, my major concern is when I en-US am driving in the right lane and someone en-US goes flying past me in the passing lane and en-US then IMMEDIATELY pulls over into my en-US lane TEN FEET in front of my front en-US bumper! en-US It is a terrifying and constant experience en-US on Florida's Turnpike. I am sure none of en-US these drivers know that in order to pull over en-US safely after passing, you must make sure you en-US can see BOTH of the following vehicles en-US headlights in your rear view mirror (not the en-US side mirror!) before making the move. en-US I wish we could teach drivers the rules of en-US the road and the traffic laws in such a way en-US that they would not resist learning them. en-US We would all be much safer.en-US Thank you very much. I am very en-US impressed with our local Hometown News. en-US I turn to it weekly for excellent coverage of en-US local events and people. Please keep up the en-US good work.en-USPartnership should en-US mean lower taxesen-USRead a recent article on IRMC. The artien-US -en-US cle mentioned that if Cleveland Clinic parten-US-en-US ners up with IRMC, this should reduce tax en-US millage amount. This should mean a lower en-US rate for taxpayers! IRMC are already getting en-US more tax dollars based on higher property en-US values, so a double dip by raising millage en-US amount is a JOKE. NOT an expanse of proen-US -en-US grams which mean more taxpayers' money. en-US Thats the problem with community owned en-US hospitals, they pass things on to taxpayers en-US even if they have poor fiscal management.en-USElectionsen-USI am very grateful to the Hometown News en-US for your articles about candidates running en-US for office. It is a great way to help educate en-US yourselves about who to vote for. We all en-US know the many flyers and advertisements en-US say what they want to do. Whether they en-US actually do that if they have no track record en-US is not guaranteed. And finally, checking out en-US their campaign finance report tells a story in en-US itself about who they may or may not be en-US beholding to. en-US I was dismayed to hear that Martin Counen-US -en-US ty is not allowing for early voting like Palm en-US Beach and other nearby counties. I do not en-US understand why this is not standard in Floren-US -en-US ida. Making it harder for people to get to the en-US polls is not fair to those who may have a en-US hard time getting there the day of the elecen-US-en-US tions. I think all en-US stores should follow suit! I am the first to say en-US I love all animals but too many folks take en-US advantage of the opportunity to drag those en-US poor babies out in the heat and put them en-US thru the humiliation of strangers fussing all en-US over them, etc. The animals are loyal to you, en-US the owners, they would probably be happy en-US waiting at home til you return. Other than en-US dragging them into the stores, or the beach, en-US yard sales ... have a little compassion for en-US your animals. Just because you want them en-US under your wing does not mean it is pleasen-US -en-US ant for the animal!en-USBe more considerateen-USHow come is it that ordinarily considerate en-US folk will go out of their way to throw a wrapen-US-en-US per or napkin or any manner of trash into a en-US garbage pail, yet these same people dont en-US think twice about throwing cigarette butts en-US out a car window or on the beach.en-US How unthinking or inconsiderate does en-US one have to be to think its OK to use the en-US beautiful beaches and roadways as an ashen-US -en-US tray? Doesnt it bother people to see youngen-US -en-US sters playing in the sand with cancer causing en-US cigarette butts around them? Ive seen innoen-US-en-US cent children using cigarette butts as ornaen-US -en-US mentation on their sand castles. How disen-US -en-US turbing is that?en-US Hopefully the right eyes will read this. en-US 8 en-USEarl Stewart is the owner and general en-US manager of Earl Stewart Toyota in North en-US Palm Beach. The dealership is located at en-US 1215 N. Federal Highway in Lake Park. en-US Contact him aten-US, en-US call 561-358-1474, fax 561-658-0746 or en-US email en-US passed a law a few years ago en-US that really shook up publicly en-US owned companies. Its called en-US Sarbanes-Oxley, named after the Congressen-US -en-US men who sponsored the bill. Basically, this en-US law says that the CEO and other high en-US echelon management of a public owned en-US company cannot get off the hook from en-US wrong doings because he or she claims they en-US didnt know what their employees were en-US doing. I believe the same rules should apply en-US to all businesses, even if their stock is not en-US publicly held. The boss should always be en-US held accountable for the actions of his en-US employees and this should apply especially en-US for car dealerships.en-US Most of the employees that customers en-US meet in a car dealership are paid on en-US commission. Those employees get a en-US percentage of the profit that the company en-US makes on the transaction. Car sales people, en-US service sales people (also called service en-US advisors or assistant service managers), en-US parts sales people, and the mechanical en-US technicians who work on your car are mosten-US -en-US ly all paid on commission. This method of en-US pay tilts the relationship between the en-US customer and employee in somewhat of an en-US adversarial manner. The employee wants en-US the profit to be as high as possible but the en-US customer wants it to be low. In a car en-US dealership that has talented, fully engaged, en-US and ethical management, this potentially en-US adversarial relationship is kept in a fair en-US balance. Without the oversight of upper en-US and middle management and careful hiring en-US practices, some employees will exploit a en-US customer to increase his commission.en-US What brought the subject of this column en-US to mind was a call I received yesterday from en-US a 78 year old widow from Ft. Pierce. She en-US called to thank me for writing my column en-US and to tell me that she wished she had read en-US some of my columns before she bought her en-US 2005 used Mazda. This was the first car she en-US had bought on her own. Her husband had en-US always taken on this responsibility. She paid en-US the dealership a huge profit on her puren-US -en-US chase. She was sold a maintenance package en-US that she believed cost only $25 but it really en-US was $2,500. She was rushed to sign the en-US papers at night because the dealership was en-US closing. In the morning, when she realized en-US the mistake, she drove back to the dealeren-US -en-US ship and asked to back out the sale but was en-US told it was too late. She was told she had en-US signed all the papers and that they had en-US already sold her trade-in even though she en-US had not given them the title. When she en-US asked to speak to the General Manager, en-US three different en-US employees identien-US-en-US fied themselves as en-US the General en-US Manager. I get a lot en-US of sad calls like this.en-US The owner of that en-US dealership should en-US know whats going en-US on. Im giving him en-US the benefit of the en-US doubt by saying that en-US he doesnt know en-US because if he does en-US know its even en-US worse. The owner en-US should look at the en-US big picture and the en-US long term view of en-US his business. You en-US can take advantage en-US of customers and benefit in the short run, en-US but you eventually pay the piper when en-US your bad reputation spreads far enough. en-US Most of the bad things I hear about car en-US dealers from their customers are not illegal en-US things. They are simply unethical and not en-US the way one human being should treat en-US another. Refusing to refund the money of en-US an elderly, widow after she realized that she en-US had been taken advantage of is not illegal, en-US but it sure stinks. Jim Press is the top en-US executive for Toyota over all of North en-US America and he is also the only non-Japaen-US -en-US nese to occupy a place on Toyotas board of en-US directors. He was quoted in the book, The en-US Toyota Way by Jeffrey Liker, as saying Its en-US what you do for a customer when you dont en-US owe him anything that is the true measure en-US of character. Its like sticking up for en-US somebody who cant defend himself. I realen-US -en-US ly like this quote and I have it engraved on a en-US plaque which I give out each month to the en-US employee who wins the Above and Beyond en-US Award. This award goes to our employee en-US who does something for her customer en-US above and beyond what the customer en-US would have expected.en-US If you have a bad dealing with your car en-US dealership, do your best to contact the en-US owner. His comments about the en-US recently passed Water Resources and Develen-US -en-US opment Act in the state house particularly en-US grabbed the attention of commissioners due en-US to its reference to adjusting the Lake en-US Okeechobee Regulation Schedule, a cry of en-US local environmentalists for years. Have patience with your computer en-USAen-USre you giving your computer enough en-US time to think? Its a legitimate en-US question; do you allow your en-US computer time to fulfill your requests or do en-US you become impatient and overwhelm it en-US with duplicate requests by clicking again en-US and again when the computer doesnt give en-US you an answer fast enough? Be honest.en-US The problem is common (even with en-US todays breed of super fast computers); not en-US giving the machine enough time to en-US complete one task before clicking someen-US -en-US thing else and asking it to start another. Its en-US easy to become impatient with your en-US machine especially when you become used en-US to it responding near instantly to most en-US clicks. But a problem arises when you en-US click and tell the computer to do someen-US -en-US thing that needs some time to complete en-US (like some internet links or rebooting) and en-US before it has completed the task that you en-US asked it to do, you click again (and again en-US and again and again : -) Sometimes the en-US computer can get so overwhelmed with en-US requests that it just locks up and sits there.en-US So, what do you do? Well, the answer is en-US easy in theory but often hard to implement en-US in reality; you have to be patient and keep en-US in mind what you clicked last dont get en-US distracted and forget what youre waiting en-US for. Wait and pay attention to the clues that en-US your machine is thinking. Consider the en-US lesson of the toaster. When you make toast en-US in the morning you take a slice of bread and en-US put it in the toaster and click the handle en-US down and the process begins. How long en-US does it take a toaster to cook? 3 minutes en-US maybe? I dont know exactly, I havent en-US timed it but 3 minutes sounds about right. en-US What you wouldnt do is pull up a chair and en-US stare at the toaster waiting for it to pop. 3 en-US minutes is an eternity to sit and wait for en-US something to happen. No, when you use a en-US toaster you start it and then go on to make en-US coffee or something else and have faith that en-US it will finish on its own. Ive used this analoen-US-en-US gy over the years when dealing with older en-US machines that would often take a couple en-US minutes to boot up. Thirty seconds after en-US rebooting it I almost always hear the owner en-US say, It never takes this long! Why is it en-US taking so long!? The lesson of the toaster en-US helps me explain that since we are naturally en-US sitting in front of the screen staring at it, we en-US are a captive to the toaster forced to stare en-US at it waiting for it to pop. If we are doing en-US something that I know is going to take a en-US couple minutes (like rebooting an older en-US machine) Ill suggest that we walk away, get en-US a cup of coffee and come back to it in a few en-US minutes to see if its done. Most of the time en-US this helps to fill the gap and help resist the en-US temptation to do something that might en-US slow things down even more.en-US How can you tell when the system is still en-US working on your last click or if it has en-US crashed? I guess the most obvious clue en-US would be the hour glass. When you click an en-US icon and the pointer turns into an hour en-US glass (or spins in some way), this is just en-US one clue that your computer is trying to do en-US whatever it is that you just asked it to do en-US when you clicked. Another clue would be en-US the presence of a progress bar of some sort. en-US Unfortunately, the hour glass isnt always en-US present to tell you the machine is thinking en-US and some progress bars can be hard to spot. en-US Sometimes you have to look for more subtle en-US clues like the hard drive activity light on the en-US front of the computer or (if you know what en-US to look for) launch taskmgr.exe and check en-US the status there.en-US Its important to understand that not en-US everything that we ask our computers to do en-US will happen instantly. Every day I see people en-US click an icon and then almost instantly I en-US hear Nothings happening! I wait and sure en-US enough a few seconds later I hear Oh! en-US There it goes! en-US Different programs have different en-US requirements that can cause some programs en-US to launch faster than others. Sometimes en-US things happening in the background can en-US cause a program that opened up instantly en-US yesterday to take 20 or 30 seconds to launch en-US today and since youre forced to stare at it en-US waiting (like the toaster) that wait time en-US seems much longer than it really is. en-US Contact Sean McCarthy at 888-752-9049 en-US or en-US COMPUTE THIS en-USSEAN MCCARTHY en-USAlgaeen-USFrom page 1en-US Seeen-US en-US ALGAEen-US, page 10

So how do we go about changing that en-US so that we manage water in a completely difen-US -en-US ferent way?en-US Congressman Mast emphasized the en-US immensity of the task due to a 1940s-era en-US federal charter dictating everything from en-US flood control to the lakes navigability. Even en-US so, he offered her a ray of hope.en-US Changing that original piece of legislaen-US-en-US tion in not going to be a tactic that works in en-US Washington DC, just to be very blunt about en-US it, he said. Are they spenden-US -en-US ing hundreds of millions of dollars of their en-US taxpayer money to affect fixes as we are en-US here?en-US Mr. Bartlett didnt address the expendien-US -en-US tures of those communities, but instead en-US detailed the appropriations success that Sen. en-US Joe Negron has had with projects north of en-US Lake Okeechobee. He admitted, however, en-US that a lot still needed to be done in the en-US region known as the Kissimmee Chain of en-US Lakes.en-US I would tell you that investment in the en-US entire Lake Okeechobee Watershed is necesen-US -en-US sary and a lot needs to happen in that wateren-US -en-US shed to try to get Lake Okeechobee cleaner, en-US he said. I think in the board meeting this en-US week we are signing the contract to do a en-US public-private partnership called Brighton en-US Valley to capture water before it gets to the en-US lake, in addition to all the best management en-US practices and cost-share retrofits were doing en-US in the watershed.en-US Florida Oceanographic Society Executive en-US Director Mark Perry also spoke extensively en-US during the hearing, detailing the ongoing en-US environmental damage done to the estuary en-US by the continual intrusion of fresh water.en-US Its not just the algae -its the discharge en-US itself, he said. Its all the nutrients and the en-US freshwater that damage our estuary. We en-US already had a freshwater estuary since the en-US middle of May when we had a lot of local en-US runoff and the local canals discharging into en-US the estuary. That fresh water condition is en-US not healthy for our ecosystem because of the en-US silt and sediment that is deposited on the en-US bottom of the estuary over our oyster reefs en-US and our sea grass beds, which have disapen-US -en-US peared.en-US Mr. Perry agreed that keeping lake levels en-US higher during the wet season and allowing en-US them to drop during the dry season would en-US be critical for the estuarys health in the en-US future, citing the U.S. Army Corps of Engien-US -en-US neers use of pumps in the past to provide en-US drinking water for South Florida during en-US droughts. He believes the Corps fear of dike en-US failure and flooding during the rainy season en-US is exaggerated.en-US At 15 feet elevation, there is a 1 percent en-US risk of breech and failure of the dike, he en-US said. Thats what Sen. Negron kept bringen-US-en-US ing up and bringing up in years past about en-US why are we concerned about this 1 percent en-US risk. Yeah its a safety issue, but 1 percent is en-US causing a lot of harm if were trying to keep en-US it below 15 feet.en-US More than 20 members of the public en-US spoke during the meeting as well, with many en-US expressing concerns about health issues and en-US area water quality. en-US Mary Radabaugh, the manager of Central en-US Marine and ground zero for mats of floating en-US blue-green algae, brought photo books to en-US show and said shes hosted everyone but the en-US governor on her property to show the en-US impact of the discharges. en-US You want documentation? she asked. en-US Heres our 2005 algae book; here is our en-US 2013 book when the South Florida Water en-US Management District was doing sampling; en-US this is the 2016 book in which each one of en-US you have come to the marina and witnessed en-US what weve been through. When are we en-US going to make a difference? This is up to you en-US guys, the Commission, to take the lead, to en-US come up with the money to do the testing. en-US We need to know the neurological effects en-US this could be having on me and my employen-US -en-US ees.en-US Eileen Duclay echoed those sentiments, en-US worrying what the future might hold for her en-US grandchildren.en-US Well now theyre all in school and they en-US can tell you all about the water, she said. en-US The time has gone by for throwing money en-USat it and having money disappear. What is en-US going to happen to my grandchildren 30 en-US years from now when none of us are here to en-US support them?en-US For his part, commercial fisherman Wilen-US -en-US liam Embrey expressed the angst of the en-US small business owners whove found their en-US livelihoods impacted by the influx of freshen-US -en-US water into the St. Lucie River Estuary and en-US beyonden-US It affects commercial fisherman almost en-US on a year-round basis, he said. It just gets en-US worse year after year and were never comen-US -en-US pensated -any of the small businesses that en-US are affected by this. I mean everyones maken-US -en-US ing money off this except us. Theyve en-US dumped more than $2 million into that dike en-US and not one time have they compensated en-US fisherman and businesses affected by it.en-US Chairman Ciampi responded to Mr. en-US Embrey directly, saying he agreed that en-US financial aid as opposed to taking on new en-US debt would be the best answer. en-US As the county were going to be looking en-US to do that, and I dont mean loans, he said. en-US Id like you to contact my office next week en-US and will give you what weve been working en-US on behind the scenes.en-US The Commission subsequently voted 4-0 en-US to approve the emergency declaration, with en-US Commissioner Harold Jenkins absent. The en-US Commission also voted unanimously to en-US have staff ask both the CDC and the Envien-US -en-US ronmental Protection Agency for assessing en-US the health risks associated with the algae, as en-US well as asking the federal government to en-US make public health a priority in managing en-US South Floridas waters, to use Amendment en-US One funds only for land purchases for water en-US storage and to rewrite the LORS schedule. en-USAlgaeen-USFrom page 9

For an appetizer, en-US Gloria started out with the Fried Eggplant en-US Caprese (Three healthy fritters of eggplant, en-US fresh mozzarella and tomatoes served on a en-US bed of arugula), while I opted for the Grilled en-US Luganega Sausage and Butter Beans served en-US with roasted cherry tomatoes over broccoli en-US rabe. en-US As we savored and shared our appetizers, en-US we both enjoyed the intimate and romantic en-US atmosphere created here by the extended Di en-US Fede Family, who wanted a lounge atmoen-US -en-US sphere to give its ristorante a more elegant en-US appeal. The ability to enjoy a quiet converen-US -en-US sation is one reason we tend to avoid most en-US chain restaurants or those with blaring TVs. en-US The sophisticated lounge is an attractive en-US spot, and Ritamaria Trovato, the daughter en-US of restaurant founder Domenic Di Fede, en-US says La Forchetta can get noisy at times, like en-US a typical Italian family. Italian and Spanish are frequently en-USsimilar, but Mr. Tonelli explained that this en-US version translated better as best wishes to en-US you. For a brief moment when listening to en-US their booming voices, it sounded like a night en-US at the opera. en-US For her main course, Gloria opted for of en-US the nightly specials on the menu insert, the en-US Pork Osso Bucco, while I on the other hand en-US had to read through the entire menu before en-US settling on the healthy sounding Snapper en-US Capri in hopes of balancing out my aforeen-US -en-US mentioned appetizer. en-US A word of warning here: Portions are en-US huge, and entrees also include a cup of soup en-US or small salad, so you need to pace yourself. en-US In fact we noticed most patrons getting en-US doggy bags, but I refuse to share any of mine en-US with a canine. en-US We both opted for soup, with Gloria en-US going for the Lobster Bisque (a creamy delien-US -en-US cacy packed with chewy bits of the crustaen-US-en-US cean) and myself choosing the much more en-US substantial pasta e fagioli brimming with en-US macaroni and beans. Needless to say, Gloria en-US groaned when she saw her magnificent en-US entree arrive in all of its splendor, a slow-en-US cooked pork shank simmered in port wine en-US and mirepoix and perched atop a bed of egg en-US fettuccine. My snapper was served swimen-US-en-US ming in a lemon butter wine sauce, which en-US negated part of the healthy idea in my en-US head but definitely added to the taste. So did en-US the numerous capers, Gaeta olives and en-US whole cloves of garlic, which truly served to en-US give the dish its Mediterranean flavor. La en-US Forchettas main menu is too extensive to en-US list, but it includes several other seafood en-US dishes, four types of veal, chicken in several en-US variations and even a lemony Francese en-US Combo of veal, chicken and shrimp. en-US We wound up our dining experience with en-US a shared slice of decadently rich coconut en-US cake, accompanied by espresso for me and en-US decaf coffee for the lady. en-US For those already familiar with the La en-US Forchetta location on Lost River Road, en-US youll find no pizza in the Federal Highway en-US location, the Italian mainstay thats irrevocaen-US -en-US bly linked to the Di Fede culinary history. en-US The family tale, as told by Ms. Trovato on en-US part of the menu and to us in person, began en-US with her maternal grandfather Giorlando en-US Sanfratello who emigrated to New York en-US from Palermo in the 1970s. Mr. Sanfratello en-US began working at his brothers pizzeria in en-US Times Square, where he learned how to en-US hand toss pizza and eventually opened his en-US own pizza place in Brooklyn. His daughter, en-US Rosalia, had already learned from Ms. Troen-US-en-US vatos nonna (grandmother) how to make en-US fresh tomato sauce and other Italian staples. en-US Although Ms. Trovatos mother said she en-US would never marry anyone in the restaurant en-US business, she eventually en-US married a Sicilian from en-US Palermo, Mr. Di Fede, and en-US the rest is gastronomic hisen-US-en-US tory, Italian style, that en-US spread throughout New en-US Jersey and eventually en-US reached the Treasure en-US Coast. en-US 14 en-USEen-USven though we live in Florida, finding en-US a golf course right on the ocean, that en-US many of us can play, is not the easiest en-US of tasks. Florida has 1,350 miles of coasten-US -en-US line, second only to Alaska. Yet, most of the en-US few courses that we do have right on the en-US Atlantic Ocean or the Gulf of Mexico, are en-US very private.en-US We recently took a short drive up the en-US interstate to Palm Coast, home of the en-US beautiful Hammock Beach, a Salamander en-US Resort. The resort, which is located right en-US on the Atlantic Ocean between Daytona en-US Beach and St. Augustine, features a pair of en-US fantastic golf courses and accommodations en-US ranging from the quaint, cozy lodge to two en-US and three bedroom condos, to villas or en-US suites. Since I was dragging the entire clan en-US with me a three bedroom place was in en-US order.en-US After a peaceful three-hour drive, we en-US arrived at the Lodge overlooking the en-US Atlantic Ocean, checked in and were en-US directed to our home for the weekend. For en-US the weekend we enjoyed a gorgeous three en-US bedroom condo right on the resorts 2.5 en-US mile stretch of pristine beach. From our en-US sixth-floor perch we could see most of the en-US resort, and even spotted a dolphin swimen-US -en-US ming in the waves.en-US Our condo was named Cinnamon en-US Beach. One look at the beach and we knew en-US exactly how it got its name. The beach en-US wasnt the sand that most of us are used to, en-US but instead tiny pieces of crushed shell the en-US color of fine cinnamon. The view was en-US breathtaking and immediately relaxing.en-US It was easy to figure out what the kids en-US liked. While they liked everything, just a en-US couple hundred yards away from our en-US condo were two pool areas. One was for the en-US adults, the other for families or kids. The en-US kids area has everything a kid would want, en-US a sparkling cool pool, complete with a en-US climb-on playground with water cannons, en-US sprinklers and the like. en-US My early afternoon away from everyone en-US was spent enjoying a round of golf. The courses signature en-US hole is the eighth. This par-3 features an en-US island green. From any tee box, this is one en-US intimidating hole.en-US The back-nine begins with a 636yard en-US par-5. This is the longest hole on the en-US course, no matter what tees you have en-US chosen. There is also one of Toms en-US sod-faced bunkers placed at the front-cenen-US -en-US ter of the green. This is a truly fantastic en-US hole.en-US The 15th hole is a short risk-reward par-en-US 4. The sharp dogleg right tempts you to en-US cut the corner and leave yourself with a en-US short edge approach. Get too greedy and en-US youll find yourself in a huge bunker area en-US or worse, in the water.en-US The finishing hole, featuring a panen-US -en-US oramic view of the golf course from its en-US elevated teeing ground, is fantastic. Long en-US hitters will have a chance to reach the en-US green in two on this par-5, but must be en-US careful to carry the stone bulkhead en-US guarding the green.en-US Watson placed a priority on driving the en-US ball well to conquer this layout. Many of en-US the fairways are tight, protected by en-US beautiful oak, pine and natural fauna, but en-US drives in the fairways tend to roll more en-US than you are used to. A tribute to Toms en-US love for links golf. Thankfully, the greens en-US are large and generous. en-US Tom only designs a couple courses each en-US year, and he certainly puts a lot of care and en-US effort into those to make them as wonderen-US -en-US ful as possible. It certainly shows here.en-US Between the great golf course, the en-US beautiful accommodations and the family en-US having a fantastic time, I hardly noticed en-US the heat.
