That job carried with it the en-US responsibility for governmental affairs and comen-US -en-US munity relations for Martin and Okeechobee en-US counties, so the commission felt like he would en-US be a good fit.en-US I was already involved, somewhat politically, en-US in the community because the elected officials in en-US the City of Stuart and Martin County were my en-US customers, Mr. Blount said. en-US 2 en-USfirst dabbling with politics because it was en-US my career. But since I retired Ive known en-US people in the community that have been en-US encouraging me to seek political office, and en-US I never thought seriously about it because en-US Im involved with a lot of nonprofit activities en-US in the community, but the morning that en-US Commissioner Campenni resigned I was en-US getting calls from some of those same peoen-US -en-US ple that had encouraged me to run for office.en-US Debate on the item was short, and the en-US commission was given two options by staff en-US as provided in the City Charter, including en-US holding a special electionwithin 120 days; en-US or within the same time frame, they could en-US appoint a commissioner for the interim en-US until the next election, which will be later en-US this year.en-US I agreed to put my name in the hat, so to en-US speak, and I notified the commissioners that en-US if they were going to appoint someone I en-US would be interested, and that was it, Mr. en-US Blount said. They made a motion to en-US appoint me and they elected me unanien-US -en-US mously two weeks later I was sworn in.en-US He said the one meeting he attended was en-US interesting and there is a lot of material to en-US cover so quickly. He also has to catch up on en-US some of the projects in the city, but that he is en-US coming up to speed.en-US I love Stuart and Ive been in Stuart 44 en-US years and so its always been of interest to en-US me a lot of it for work and this adds en-US value to this existing board, Mr. Blount en-US said. Its a little early to say whether I will en-US run for election, and Im not making a comen-US -en-US mitment to that, so we will see.en-US Its a good possibility, but its too early to en-US say. My whole career has been as a consenen-US-en-US sus-builder and a problem-solver and so en-US from that standpoint, thats what I hope to en-US continue to do.en-US A special election would have cost the city en-US upwards of $15,000 and would have been en-US completed within a few months of the next en-US general election, so the commission felt it en-US would not be a wise use of taxpayer dollars. en-US So, by nomination and vote, en-US Mr.Blountwas appointed for the commisen-US -en-US sion seat vacated by Mr. Campenni, who en-US had been accused of threatening City Manen-US-en-US ager Dave Ross. Mr. Campenni denied those en-US allegations, and said he resigned to save the en-US city the cost of an investigation. en-USCommunity notes The Atlantic Animal Clinic1315 NE Sunview Terr. en-US 3 en-USMARTIN COUNTY The Martin en-US County Sheriffs Office recently celebrated en-US the addition of a new vessel, which will help en-US them better address waterway-related en-US issues. The MCSO is also gearing up for the en-US boating season, and that brings some chalen-US-en-US lenges along with it that are a little off the en-US path of the regular beat.en-US The vessel is known as Guardian 1, and it en-US is part of the Marine Unit fleet of five boats. en-US It was funded in part through a grant from en-US FIND (Florida Inland Navigational Disen-US -en-US trict), and about 200 people watched the en-US vessel make its debut on March 29. Marine en-US Sergeant Travis Dykes was at the helm of en-US Guardian 1 as she moved in to make her en-US public debut, and he said the boat is going to en-US help deputies in a variety of ways.en-US Basically, its a good, strong, stable platen-US -en-US form thats going to let us do our job in law en-US enforcement, but what theyre also going to en-US do is add to our fleet of boats that are accesen-US -en-US sible for Martin County Fire Rescue as well, en-US Sgt. Dykes said. We will work with Fire en-US Rescue to install a pump on it.en-US The MCSO already is seeing increased en-US activity on the Indian River Lagoon and the en-US areas many other waterways, such as a boat en-US collision which occurred around noon on en-US April 3 on the St. Lucie River, that resulted en-US in serious injuries. The Florida Wildlife en-US Commission is handling the investigation en-US and will release any en-US further information, en-US but MCSO deputies en-US were on site to assist en-US with the accident.en-US It is one of many en-US issues the Marine en-US Unit deals with on a en-US daily basis this time of en-US year, and Sgt. Dykes en-US said the unit does its en-US best to encourage en-US boater safety and en-US guard the waterways en-US from drunk-boating en-US and even thefts that en-US occur at homeowners en-US docks and boathouses. en-US Where we live, water is obviously a huge en-US driving force behind our community and its en-US almost our biggest industry, Sgt. Dykes en-US said. On any given day, there are hundreds en-US if not thousands of boats out on the en-US water and we are still responsible for each of en-US those people. The sheriffs office doesnt just en-US top on the road, were responsible for the en-US exact same thing, and a few others, out there en-US on the water and without the equipment to en-US get out there, its just not going to happen.en-US The MCSO also is anticipating the sumen-US -en-US mer, which kicks off with Memorial Day en-US and lasts through Labor Day, and the en-US increased activity that comes with that seaen-US -en-US son. People approach deputies with quesen-US -en-US tions on a routine basis and they do their en-US best to respond to all inquiries that come en-US their way and meet with homeowners assoen-US -en-US ciations throughout the year to discuss en-US boater safety.en-US What we do is ramp up our patrols and en-US ramp up our staffing, especially during the en-US weekends, and we have Independence Day en-US and we try to cover the main recreational en-US areas like Stuart Sandbar and Tequesta en-US Sandbar and a couple of points in between, en-US Sgt. Dykes said. We work seven days a en-US week, and there are tons of fishing charters en-US that run out of different marinas, and so en-US there is constant activity on the water.en-US For more information about the Martin en-US County Sheriffs Office, please visit the main en-US website at en-UShttp://www.sheriff.martin.fl.us/ en-US or the Facebook page at en-UShttps://www.faceen-US-en-US book.com/MartinCountySheriffsOffice/. We have en-US been really close to the finals for two years en-US in a row, so it will be exciting to see if we go en-US even farther this year.en-US Hailey, 17, said she particularly enjoyed en-US socializing and networking at the latest en-US regional competition, where her duties as en-US team captain included handling the teams en-US marketing during the competition and en-US working as a FIRST Ambassador to introen-US -en-US duce visitors and VIPs to the competition. en-US The whole experience was amazing, but en-US the thing I enjoyed the most was the people en-US that I met, she explained. I got to meet stuen-US -en-US dents from Turkey and China who had the en-US same interests as me, and I also got to meet en-US some really cool professionals who gave me en-US a lot of advice about what I could do after en-US college.en-US Jensen Beach High School senior Cameren-US -en-US on Soviero, 18, operated the Martin teams en-US robot during the regional tournament and en-US said he felt confident going into the compeen-US -en-US tition despite a previous loss at the Orlando en-US regional event.en-US Being the driver of the robot, I knew en-US with a few weeks of practice our machine en-US could make it all the way and win the next en-US regional competition, he said. With this in en-US mind, I was not very surprised that our en-US team won. Obviously there is always a small en-US degree of luck that got us to win the compeen-US -en-US tition; however, I was confident in our en-US robot.en-US Cameron credits his father, JBHS engien-US-en-US neering academy teacher Richard Soviero en-US and S.P.A.M. mentor, with instilling in him en-US a passion for robotics.en-US Prior to my father becoming a mentor of en-US the team in 2006. I had no experience with en-US robotics other than kits of Legos that I en-US would get for my birthday, he explained. en-US Once he joined the team, I slowly began to en-US get exposure to robotics by traveling with en-US the team to competitions as well as going to en-US the pit to watch the build season take place. en-US This initial introduction with the team en-US sparked my future in robotics and my future en-US involvement with S.P.A.M.en-US The elder Soviero credited the teams laten-US -en-US est victory to the unique union of the Maren-US -en-US tin County S.P.A.M. team and a competitor en-US from Riviera Beach known as The Chilen-US -en-US dren of the Swamp who formed an alliance en-US with a third team from Tampa.en-US I think going in, we felt that the perfect en-US alliance would include us and 179, he said en-US referred to the Riviera Beach group. We en-US have a very good relationship with team en-US 179. We have competed against them often en-US and with them sometimes. This year, both en-US teams had been hoping that wed have a en-US chance to play (and win) together.en-US Palm City mechanical engineer Rich en-US Brooks has served as the S.P.A.M. team en-US president for the last eight years and also en-US credited the Palm Beach County competien-US-en-US tive alliance for helping earn the three teams en-US the regional title over the other 56 high en-US schools represented at the event. en-US The one thing that put our alliance over en-US the top was how well we complemented en-US each other, he said. If our opponents tried en-US to hinder any of us, the other two robots just en-US took up any slack.en-US Mr. Brooks said he first got involved in en-US S.P.A.M. about 10 years ago when his son en-US competed in robotics, and now he dedicates en-US several nights a week and many Saturdays to en-US helping train his young prodigies. en-US For me its about the growth I see in the en-US students, he said. Our program teaches en-US how to solve a problem in the form of a en-US game in a scenario that closely resembles en-US real life. We reinforce the hard skills taught en-US in school with soft skills such as communien-US-en-US cation, overcoming obstacles and analytical en-US thinking. Students come into the program en-US talking to their shoes and leave being able to en-US communicate effectively with award judges.en-US Both Cameron and Hailey credit S.P.A.M. en-US robotics for influencing the direction of en-US their future career paths in the field of engien-US -en-US neering. Hailey plans on pursuing a degree en-US in industrial engineering and said her time en-US with S.P.A.M. opened up her eyes to a whole en-US new world of possibilities.en-US Im thinking about going into quality or en-US safety engineering from there, she said. en-US My experiences with robotics definitely en-US influenced this decision because I never en-US even knew that those fields existed before en-US S.P.A.M. Of course, being in this program is en-US what gave me the skills, connections, and en-US opportunities to pursue engineering in the en-USfirst place.en-USMartin robotics team heads to world championship By Donald Rodrigue en-USFor Hometown News Verticals PlusFamily Owned & Operated Since 1989Custom Made BlindsCellular & Pleated Shades, Faux Wood & Wood Blinds, Shutters, Quality Verticals, Woven Woods, Mini Blinds & More 10% OFF( orders of $500 or more)Exp. 4/30/182201 S.E. Let the 50 percent of the en-US people who do not pay income taxes donate en-US at the store.en-USSticker shock at the moviesen-USI recently had the pleasure of taking my en-US two granddaughters to the movies in the en-US daytime but was shocked to see there were en-US no daytime deals. For a child, the price was en-US the same as an adult so our little outing to a en-US movie including a small lunch added up to en-US over $40. Whatever happened to daytime en-US matinees? I would think that more people en-US would take advantage of a cool movie theen-US-en-US ater in the afternoon than being outside all en-US day but at these prices, I can understand en-US why people have to find other things to do. en-US It would be nice to offer movies at an afforden-US -en-US able price so all could enjoy them once in en-US awhile.en-USLife is not fairen-USYou hear it said that until you accept the en-US fact, Life is not fair, you will never be truly en-US happy in life. This Country started by fighten-US-en-US ing against that concept. We have always en-US fought against just giving up against adversien-US -en-US ty no matter how hopeless it seems to be. en-US The slaves fought against unfairness, The en-US Jews fought against it, and now the people en-US bombed with GAS fight against it. People en-US with no availability of Health Care fight en-US against unfairness also. Many people gave en-US their lives and limbs to make right the en-US unfairness and cruelty of the ones in power. en-US If the wealthy get ALL the money and own en-US ALL the food and ALL the medicine in the en-US world do the rest just say; "Oh well, LIFE IS en-US NOT FAIR? Since we are all born on Earth, en-US not by choice, it seems to me that we should en-US ALL have at least the The right to live and en-US at least the chance of happiness. If we have a en-US right to live; then we should also have A en-US right to die, with dignity. A person who has en-US a terminal illness and in extreme pain en-US should not have to suffer and be used as an en-US income source for others in order to have an en-US Off shore account or something else for en-US their happiness. It is that time of year when en-US we should all be reminded of the messages en-US given to us by someone who has the power en-US to create life. It seems to me that we, as en-US HUMANS, really have no power at all and en-US that we are ALL on this short journey in life en-US together. We all must get old and die, that is en-US unfair, but we dont know why we were put en-US here? Maybe life is some sort of TEST to see en-US what kind of SOUL we have?en-USCell phones and car accidentsen-USI dont like the word older. I like mature, en-US and those of you ranting about mature en-US drivers are going to be there sooner then en-US you think.en-US We have a high majority of mature driven-US -en-US ers in Florida; lots of them from other parts en-US of the country, where there are different en-US road rules.en-US I dont like the idea that all you young en-US kids below 50 think we cant drive and en-US should turn in our keys. Aint going to hapen-US -en-US pen, as long as we dont have another choice en-US of good reliable on time transportation en-US available. Believe me, we would if we had a en-US good transportation system but we dont. en-US Yes, we take things more slowly, obey the en-US rules and dont speed when we drive; and en-US that is why most of us drive safely.en-US As for the stats given, I checked them. en-US Pedestrians are top for automobile accidents en-US and death. Age 16-25 is second in line, with en-US cell phones as the major cause. They also en-US noted that cell phones cause over 75 percent en-US of automobile accidents today.en-US Get off your phones, children, and pay en-US attention to the road. Motorcycles was third. en-US The mature group was fourth, and cell en-US phones were not listed as the major cause.en-US I am in the fourth group at age 82. Been en-US driving since I was 16, (66 years), a typical en-US mature driver. I obey the rules, regulations en-US and speeds for driving, even when you en-US youngsters tailgate, honk horns, swerve en-US around me, give me the finger, yell obscenien-US -en-US ties, dart in front of me, make wrong en-US U-turns, etc.en-US What I see the under 50s doing when they en-US drive should gain them a ton of tickets. I en-US counted six tickets on one of my 30-year-old en-US neighbors, as I drove first in front and then en-US in back of them the other day everything en-US from speed to no signals. Unfortunately, no en-US police officer was around to issue them, and en-US that is a problem, because we do not have en-US enough of them to police our roads properen-US -en-US ly.en-US All older cars on the road are not hazards. en-US I drive a classic with 53,000 miles; built in en-US Detroit, Michigan, USA, not China, Japan en-US or Mexico, etc.en-US Just remember, you youngsters, you will en-US get here; and there are people in all age en-US groups who should turn in their keys. There en-US are also people in all age groups who are en-USgood drivers. So, get off the mature group en-US kick.en-US Dont automatically think just because en-US you see gray hair that we are lousy drivers en-US and should turn in our keys at 50. en-US Open letter to all motorcyclistsen-USPlease be aware that the striped zones en-US between or beside the handicapped parking en-US areas are not parking spaces.en-US Many handicapped vehicles are equipped en-US with lifts, ramps or swing-out chairs that en-US require this extra space.en-US Any obstacle to either side of the vehicle en-US could be dangerous or impossible to navien-US -en-US gate.en-US The only two options are to wait until the en-US obstruction leaves or move the vehicle into en-US traffic lanes to load/unload a wheelchair. en-US 7 en-USus at Martin Health the value of developing en-US a stronger relationship with one of the preen-US-en-US mier health care providers in the world.en-US Mr. Lord added that Martin Health Sysen-US -en-US tem has twice been named to the top-50 caren-US -en-US diovascular programs in the nation. For en-US being a community hospital our size, thats en-US pretty remarkable, he said.en-US The Ohio-based Cleveland Clinic is a en-US nonprofit multi-specialty academic medical en-US center that integrates clinical and hospital en-US care with research and education. U.S. News en-US & World Report consistently names Cleveen-US -en-US land Clinic as one of the nations best hospien-US-en-US tals in its annual Americas Best Hospitals en-US survey, a press release stated.en-US Martin Health System has provided care en-US to residents of Floridas Treasure Coast for en-US nearly 80 years, and Mr. Lord said some en-US people might look at the potential agreeen-US-en-US ment as a sign the system is in trouble. But en-US nothing could be further from the truth, he en-US said.en-US They reached out to us, and they were en-US looking to expand into Florida into the en-US heart program, and we had them come in en-US and look at our program because we have a en-US highly rated program and they looked at it en-US and thought we would be a good affiliate, en-US Mr. Lord said. Were their first heart affilien-US-en-US ate, and before that we had some other disen-US -en-US cussions about how to develop a clinically en-US integrated network and that had some sucen-US -en-US cess, but not as much as we all would have en-US liked. en-US Martin Health is a strong system and it en-US has operated in the black and its done very en-US well, philanthropically. But our goal is to be en-US an elite health care organization and thats en-US the same mission for the Cleveland Clinic, en-US and were going to sit down talk about it and en-US see if we can come up with an agreement to en-US offer the highest-quality health care to this en-US community as possible. en-US Cleveland Clinic representatives also see en-US a silver lining to the potential agreement.en-US Through our recent cardiac affiliation en-US we have seen many synergies already and en-US are excited to embark on this next phase of en-US discussions, said Wael Barsoum, MD, CEO en-US and President of Cleveland Clinic Florida en-US through the press release. We believe Maren-US -en-US tin Health can play an integral role in the en-US expansion of Cleveland Clinic services in en-US southeast Florida and look forward to en-US exploring the possibilities our health sysen-US -en-US tems may have together for the benefit of en-US the communities we serve.en-US Mr. Lord said the two organizations share en-US some cultural similarities, and that Martin en-US Healths desire is to have great health care en-US offered in Martin and St. Lucie counties.en-US Were not interested in being a transen-US-en-US fer-station to other entities, except for ceren-US -en-US tain things like heart transplants and there en-US will be certain things our area cant support, en-US Mr. Lord said. But it will be great to have an en-US affiliation with somebody who does it really, en-US really well.en-US Also attractive is the draw a top-flight en-US health system provides to a community, en-US toward everything from employment en-US opportunities to real-estate values. Also, Mr. en-US Lord said he doesnt want to see accomen-US -en-US plished surgeons leave the area for other en-US health systems, cities or opportunities.en-US For more information about Martin Health en-US System, please visit en-US www.martinhealth.org. Our plan right now is en-US to do them quarterly and they will be sponen-US-en-US soring the next few events.en-US The CMTC usually opens later on Sunen-US -en-US days at noon, but the doors will be open en-US early to give children an extra few hours to en-US enjoy the center. The cannons will be turned en-US off and the music will be turned down. Also, en-US the typical exciting flashing lights and fire en-US station will be off because young people en-US with autism have a heightened sensitivity to en-US them, Ms. Makemson said. en-US They have been well-received, and we en-US get positive feedback from people who en-US missed them and wanted us to bring them en-US back, Ms. Makemson said. And one of the en-US things that we like to do at the Childrens en-US Museum is be all-inclusive, and we underen-US -en-US stand that all of the features of our exhibits en-US create problems with young people that are en-US on the spectrum. After en-US painstakingly moving all of his data to en-US Googles servers (wherever the hell they are) en-US he woke up one day to find out his account en-US had been closed due to a terms of service en-US violation which he swears up and down he en-US didnt commit. en-US The bottom line is he spent a consideren-US -en-US able amount of time moving his entire en-US digital inventory up to Googles cloud, en-US didnt make any provisions to back any of it en-US up and then (just as Murphys law en-US demands) found himself completely locked en-US out. en-US Now, this column isnt about whether en-US Google had a right to lock him out of his en-US account or not nor is it some type of cry out en-US to the powers that be to change the way our en-US data is safeguarded when we hand it over to en-US the cloud. Its more of a cautionary tale to en-US remind us of that which we already know en-US back up everything! Even when entrusten-US -en-US ing your data to the cloud, back it to a local en-US drive as well! To not do so is just asking for en-US it. en-US Lets look at this a little closer shall we? en-US First the decision to use a cloud service en-US may be a decision that many are not even en-US aware that they are making. Let me try to en-US clarify a couple things, take email for en-US example. If you are accessing your email en-US through your web browser by going to en-US www.gmail.comen-US, en-US www.yahoo.comen-US en-US www.aol.en-US comen-US or any of the other email services that en-US offer web based mail service then guess en-US what? Your email is being stored and en-US managed in the cloud and if you should en-US find yourself in violation of the terms of en-US service you too could find yourself locked en-US out. (Just how well did you read those en-US terms when you signed up? You know, the en-US terms you have to click the Accept button en-US for in order to set up your account?) en-US Most email services allow the downloaden-US -en-US ing of email to a local email client which is en-US present on each and every machine out en-US there Windows, Mac or Linux. You can set en-US up your computers email program en-US (Windows Live Mail, Outlook, Outlook en-US Express for those machines still running en-US Windows XP, Mail on Macs) by configuren-US -en-US ing the POP or IMAP settings. Look it en-US up in your email services help settings and en-US if your email service doesnt provide for it en-US then you may want to consider an alternaen-US -en-US tive. en-US Next lets look at the folly of uploading all en-US of your digital pictures to a service like en-US Googles Albums and then deleting the local en-US copies after you upload all of your pictures. en-US Why on earth would anyone do that? Well en-US Sean, we dont want all these duplicates en-US now do we? Well, actually, you do. en-US Sure uploading all of your photos to a en-US web based service is great but for Gods en-US sakes, dont get rid of the originals! Did you en-US know that you can get 8 gigabyte thumb en-US drives from just about any drugstore en-US nowadays very cheaply? Do you know how en-US many duplicate photos you can store on 8 en-US gigs? Then if anything happens to your en-US web albums you luckily will have all of en-US those pesky duplicates to fall back on.en-US The list goes on Google Docs Sure en-US save all of your Docs to cloud storage but en-US how about synchronizing them with a local en-US folder on your own machine, you know, just en-US in case Google goes belly up or locks you en-US out, it will be nice to have a backup. en-US As the concept of cloud computing en-US becomes all encompassing its important to en-US remember that its your data. Dont just en-US assume that they will protect it for you.en-US Contact Sean McCarthy at 888-752-9049 en-US or en-US help@ComputeThisOnline.comen-US. en-US 10 en-USTREASURE COAST One local organien-US -en-US zation is going all-out for people with disen-US-en-US abilities. EmployU, a nonprofit organization en-US working throughout Florida, helps people en-US with disabilitiesfind gainful employment in en-US whatever capacities they can excel in and en-US attain good jobs that highlight their skills.en-US EmployU staff members help clients with en-US resumes, job applications and meet with en-US businesses to find jobs suited to their en-US strengths.en-US Many businesses, such as Publix employ en-US people with disabilities, but are not in the en-US position to hire more profoundly disabled en-US people. They typically offer bagger positions en-US to the disabled, in many cases, although en-US those are much-appreciated by EmployU en-US staff.en-US But Employment Specialist Susan Marino en-US said there are many businesses in the comen-US -en-US munity that have made a difference by taken-US -en-US ing a chance and investing in other clients. en-US Many of these are privately owned businessen-US -en-US es and not necessarily big corporations, she en-US said. en-US I felt that if we give some positive attenen-US -en-US tion to these businesses, then other local en-US businesses might also be encouraged and en-US motivated to give people with disabilities a en-US chance, Ms. Marino said. I personally en-US work within four counties on the Treasure en-US Coast Indian River, St. Lucie, Okeechobee en-US and Martin counties and have helped hunen-US-en-US dreds of folks find meaningful employment. en-US I feel passionate about helping people find en-US purpose through employment.en-US What many people dont realize is that a en-US disability can occur from birth to death, Ms. en-US Marino added, and some are born with en-US developmental disabilities while others are en-US injured when they experience things like en-US strokes, macular degeneration or accidents en-US that render them unable to do their previous en-US jobs.en-US Vocational rehabilitation has a team of en-US engineers that they can provide to the en-US employers to make accommodations to en-US employees, Ms. Marino said. In some en-US cases, there are devices they can use to overen-US -en-US come their disabilities.en-US For all of these clients, employment proen-US -en-US vides a sense of community and is a great en-US source of socialization, according to a press en-US release. While many people with disabilities en-US live in isolation, employment increases en-US self-esteem and leaves them with a profound en-US sense of gratitude to these companies and en-US long-term commitment to their jobs.en-US Employers are not typically eager to en-US accommodate people with disabilities and en-US we all know what the law is: The Americans en-US With Disabilities Act states that they have to en-US offer opportunities equally, but we all know en-US that is not always the case.en-US Ms. Marino cited a number of clients she en-US has been able to help along the way, includen-US -en-US ing Austin Beers. Hes a 21-year-old young en-US man with dwarfism, high-frequency deafen-US -en-US ness as well as developmental disabilities. en-US He is not able to en-US read, write or comen-US -en-US municate verbally. en-US Hes survived both en-US brain and open-en-US heart surgeries en-US during his short life, en-US but had a big dream: en-US to be a chef. But due en-US to his small stature, en-US issues with dexterity en-US and communication en-US problems, his options were limited at best.en-US Ms. Marino worked with Mr. Beers and en-US helped him develop skills for an eight-week en-US training course that was paid by EmployU en-US at Longhorn Steakhouse in Jensen Beach. en-US He worked with Job Coach Michelle Hanen-US -en-US sen to develop learning skills that could be en-US applied in future employment, and Longen-US -en-US horn has been a long-time partner, working en-US with thousands of students with disabilities.en-US But Kyle Greene of Kyle Gs Prime Seaen-US -en-US food & Steaks on Hutchinson Island, who en-US opened his business in late 2017 has hired a en-US high-functioning client named Willie, who en-US is still working there. en-US I approached Kyle again in February to en-US challenge him with helping Austin en-US withhisdream. I was completely transparen-US -en-US ent and said, Listen Kyle, this is going to be en-US tough, Im not going to lie, Ms. Marino en-US said. And Mr. Greene agreed to meet with en-US Austin and offered him a job on the spot. en-US Mr. Greene also agreed to let me personally en-US provide job coaching for Austin since I have en-US a background in culinary training.en-US In the meantime, Mr. Greene and his en-US entire staff have welcomed Mr. Beers with en-US open arms. He works three days a week, en-US peeling potatoes, wrapping baked potatoes en-US and cleaning scallops, and is a tireless worken-US-en-US er. The staff at EmployU is developing visuen-US -en-US al-aids to help the staff at Kyle Gs with comen-US -en-US munication, since speaking is difficult and en-US vocabulary is limited for him. en-USWell make a picture-book of things Ausen-US-en-US tin will need food, utensils, etc. when a en-US job coach is not available, Ms. Marino en-US added. People with disabilities have ambien-US -en-US tions and dreams, too, and everybody with a en-US disability has the ability to do something en-US and it might be something very small, but en-US through working with Austin I discovered en-US there was a lot he could do and ways that we en-US could teach him and fight for his opportunien-US -en-US ty there.en-US Mr. Beerss mother, Toni, said he is one en-US excited boy, because he loves to work, and en-US he appreciates the chance to shine in the en-US kitchen.en-US Its really benefited him, because he had en-US attended a culinary class in high school and en-US then went to Orlando for a program and en-US was able to get his license to work in the en-US kitchen for disabled children and was able en-US to follow his dreams, Ms. Beers said. Its a en-US chance he would not have gotten were it not en-US for this program.en-US For more information about EmployU and en-US its programs, visit en-USwww.employu.org en-US or call en-US 407-598-0202. While the drier en-US weather has meant increased fire danger, it en-US also has resulted in less water discharges en-US into the IRL and St. Lucie River and Estuary en-US and that is good for aquatic life with less en-US danger of blue-green algae blooms.en-US However, some damage has been incurred en-US to the IRL because of the discharges, accorden-US -en-US ing to FOC Executive Director Mark Perry, en-US and runoff has had a major impact due to en-US the turbid and dirty water from Lake en-US Okeechobee. The FOC monitors the loss of en-US habitat through aerial imagery and staff also en-US goes into the field to inspect oyster beds and en-US seagrass section by section.en-US The amount of settlement on oyster beds en-US each spring, and after these discharge en-US events, we go out there and we look at the en-US amount of living versus dead oysters in a en-US given area, Mr. Perry said. So, we have speen-US -en-US cific sites that are monitored within the oysen-US -en-US ter reefs, and the middle estuary, and then en-US specific sites out there in the seagrass beds en-US that we can look at which definitely indicate en-US whether there is a presence or absence or en-US mortality has happened.en-US He added that the estuary is very resilient, en-US but it takes time to recover. The volume of en-US water has an obvious impact to salinity and en-US other factors and the FOC is able to develop en-US a cross-section of the impact and recovery en-US time needed for the IRL. The last three en-US months have seen a dramatic increase in en-US water quality and during the current growen-US -en-US ing season for the seagrass beds they hope to en-US see a recovery in that area as well.en-US Then, in June, the wet season will again en-US be under way and through October particen-US-en-US ular with the danger of extra rainfall of huren-US -en-US ricanes invariably result in water dischargen-US -en-US es from the lake. For example, there were 22 en-US inches of rain in Fort Pierce due to last years en-US hurricanes and 14 in Martin County in en-US some areas.en-US Thats a lot of rain in the watershed, and en-US not a lot of ways to get rid of it, and so they en-US discharged a lot of it to the estuary over a en-US long period of time and all the way through en-US December, Mr. Perry said. So, we knew it en-US would take a while to recover, and it may en-US take this year and next year.en-US Staff from the FOC visits the beds at least en-US monthly and sometime twice a month to en-US search for evidence of living oysters and seten-US -en-US tlement of new oysters. On the oyster shells en-US themselves are tiny dots that indicates the en-US settlement of the new oysters. They settle on en-US shells that already are there, Mr. Perry said, en-US and they also monitor growth after about six en-US months.en-US We know the normal growth rate of oysen-US -en-US ters and if theyre growing and healthy then en-US we can monitor their health as well, he en-US added, and indicated that there are many en-USthings homeowners and residents can do to en-US decrease the impact to the environment. en-US One of the quick things you can do is to en-US make sure you dont fertilize your lawns en-US during the rainy season because all of that en-US runoff carries those nutrients into the en-US lagoon.en-US Reducing plastic waste and communities en-US that go from septic systems to sewer also en-US help out, because plastic ends up in landfills en-US and subsequently into the groundwater en-US and old septic systems invariably leak nutrien-US -en-US ents like nitrogen that are unhealthy in the en-US event their drain fields are bad. en-US 12 en-USEarl Stewart is the owner and general en-US manager of Earl Stewart Toyota in North en-US Palm Beach. The dealership is located at en-US 1215 N. Federal Highway in Lake Park. en-US Contact him at en-USwww.earlstewarttoyota.com, en-US call 561-358-1474, fax 561-658-0746 or en-US email en-US earl@estoyota.com.en-USTen-UShere are fewer things more sensitive en-US or embarrassing than having to share en-US your personal credit problems with a en-US stranger. Having credit problems can also en-US put many buyers in a weakened and en-US defensive position when buying a car. Many en-US people with bad, or too little credit feel like en-US the car dealer is somehow doing them a en-US favor by selling them a car and getting en-US them financed. Some car dealers will lead en-US you to believe that your credit is worse than en-US it is to put you on the defensive. If they can en-US make you believe that theyre doing you a en-US favor by getting you financed, youre less en-US likely to complain about the price of the car, en-US the interest rate, and even the type of car en-US you buy.en-US Make no mistake about it. A car dealer is en-US probably making more money selling a car en-US to a person with bad credit a car than one en-US with good credit. If you have a credit en-US problem, go about buying a car with the en-US same care and due diligence as if you had en-US the very best credit. Shop and compare your en-US financing, your interest rate, and your en-US trade-in allowance. Get at least three quotes en-US on each of these.en-US Lenders who specialize in lending to en-US those with bad credit are known as special en-US finance lenders. Many of these lenders en-US charge the dealer a large upfront fee, as en-US much as $2,500. Legally, the dealer is not en-US supposed to add this fee to the price of the en-US car you buy but, in the real world, the price en-US of the car is usually higher as the result of en-US this fee. Dealer also add high priced but en-US worthless warranties to the price of the cars en-US with the excuse that the lender requires it. en-US This is a lie: its illegal for lenders to require en-US a warranty to finance a car. In addition to en-US an upfront fee, the interest rates are very en-US high from special finance lenders. Because en-US they anticipate a much higher amount of en-US repossession losses, they must make more en-US on each transaction. Dont automatically en-US accept a dealers opinion that you must en-US finance through such a lender. There are en-US many conventional banks, credit unions en-US and auto manufacturer lenders these days en-US that loan to people with bad credit. Their en-US interest rates are lower and they dont en-US charge large upfront fees.en-US There is much fraud in special finance en-US lending. Credit applications are falsified to en-US show more time on the job, higher incomes, en-US etc. W-2 forms and check stubs are counteren-US -en-US feited. Buyers orders show accessories and en-US equipment that do not really exist on the en-US car. Hold checks or promissory notes are en-US misrepresented as cash down payment. en-US Co-signers signatures are forged. Confederen-US -en-US ates pose as employers, answering cell en-US phones or pay phones to verify employen-US -en-US ment. These falsifications are performed by en-US finance managers, salesmen, brokers for en-US special finance lenders (who are paid on en-US commission) and the customers themen-US -en-US selves. If you sign a credit application, be en-US sure that you know all the information on en-US that application is accurate. Be sure that you en-US understand and agree to all parts of the en-US transaction including down payments, en-US accessories on the car, etc. Never be a party en-US to falsifying information to a lender to en-US obtain a loan. This is a federal crime.en-US Advertisements aimed at people with bad en-US credit usually exaggerate with claims like, en-US We finance everyone, Wanted, good en-US people with bad credit, No credit, no en-US problem, and, my favorite, No credit en-US application refused (it doesnt say your en-US loan wont be refused, just your applicaen-US -en-US tion). My advice is to ignore these kinds of en-US ads and these kinds of dealers. Their en-US strategy is to take advantage of people with en-US bad credit who they believe will buy any car, en-US pay any amount of interest, and any profit en-US to the dealers if the dealer can get them a en-US loan.en-US It is common practice in Florida to en-US encourage the car buyer to drive the car en-US home immediately upon signing all the en-US papers. In some states like New York this is en-US not permitted until all the car has been en-US registered with the state in the new owners en-US name. The reason for this immediate en-US delivery (commonly referred to as the spot en-US delivery) is to discourage and possibly en-US even prevent the buyer from changing his en-US mind. Taking possession of the car is a legal en-US consideration making the purchase more en-US binding. I recommend that you not rush the en-US purchase or the delivery. For one thing you en-US want to be sure that the car is exactly the en-US way you want itclean inside and out, all en-US the accessories properly installed, no dings, en-US dents or scratches, and that you have a comen-US -en-US plete understanding of how to operate all en-US the features of the vehicle.en-US More important than anything above, is en-US to be sure the car does not have an outen-US -en-US standing safety recall from the manufacturen-US -en-US er. Independent used car dealers, especially en-US those who specialize in folks with bad en-US credit, have become the home for dangeren-US en-USous used cars with unfixed safety recalls. en-US Many new car dealers, like the AutoNation en-US stores, wholesale all cars with unfixed en-US Takata airbag recalls. These cars are bought en-US at auction by used car dealers like Driveen-US -en-US Time,OffLeaseOnly.com, CarMax, and en-US thousands of others smaller used car en-US dealers. These cars are retailed to people en-US with bad credit who dont ask the right en-US questions because they are grateful to find en-US financing. ALWAYS CHECK THE VIN OF en-US THE USED CAR YOU BUY ATWWW.en-US SAFERCAR.GOV.en-US I mention the risk of the spot delivery en-US in this column on buying a car with bad en-US credit because it can be especially harmful en-US to someone whose credit is denied after the en-US car has been delivered. You will most likely en-US be required to sign a Rescission Agreeen-US -en-US ment before you drive the car home. This en-US is a quasi-legal document which requires en-US you to return the car if your credit is en-US denied. You will probably be told that your en-US credit will be approved, but sometimes the The Dignity Memorial professional provider network is here to guide you every step of the way. en-US 15 en-USFORT PIERCE An event that has been en-US ongoing to 14 years now is trading locations. en-US The 14th Annual Treasure Coast LGBT+ en-US PrideFest will be hosted on Sunday, April 15 en-US from noon to 6 p.m. and will be located this en-US year at River Walk Center, 600 N. Indian en-US River Drive in Fort Pierce after moving en-US from the Port St. Lucie Civic Center. en-US For a good span of years, we were over en-US there at the Civic Center, and last year we en-US started shopping around for venues, said en-US Pride of the Treasure Coast Treasurer Cory en-US Pfister. There have been a few years where en-US we were able to bring in some larger nationen-US -en-US al acts, and now were kind of hopping en-US around the Treasure Coast and trying to en-US share some of the love of PrideFest with en-US more people.en-US The first event was simply a pride picnic en-US for families, but it has grown into a huge en-US event that draws thousands throughout the en-US day. en-US It was just an event that was family en-US friendly and the first year there were 500 to en-US 600 people who showed up, so they saw a en-US good thing going and the next year they en-US started the first PrideFest, Mr. Pfister said. en-US Since then, weve just been getting better en-US and better every year. Now, weve had years en-US where weve had 4,500 people.en-US There will be a host of entertainment en-US throughout the day, including live music en-US and live entertainment, such as male and en-US female impersonators. Some of the live en-US music acts will include The Humdingers, en-US Jennell Eve and The Little Things, with live en-US entertainment provided by Kelli Randell, en-US Shelita Taylor, Dominique Taylor, Ashley en-US Peterson and Shantell DCarlo. en-US Mr. Pfister added that the event will posen-US-en-US sibly be hosted at different venues each year, en-US and Pride of the Treasure Coast also would en-US like to expand into Martin or Indian River en-US counties somewhere down the road.en-US Its a day where people can enjoy a day of en-US music, craft vendors and this year we are en-US expanding to two different stages one will en-US have three different local bands and the secen-US-en-US ond stage will have DJ Joshua Atom and en-US many of male and female impersonators, en-US Mr. Pfister said. Right now we have over 50 en-US vendors and its just a good get-together.en-US The new Riverwalk Park will be a beautien-US -en-US ful location for this family friendly event. en-US Now more than ever the community is in en-US need of events like this to bring together en-US persons of all walks of life, said Chrissy en-US Piatkowski, President of Pride of the Treaen-US-en-US sure Coast, Inc. through a press release. en-US All proceeds from the event go back into en-US the Treasure Coast community in the form en-US of donations, support and events that proen-US -en-US mote positive social advancement of the en-US local LGBTQIA community. While the en-US organization did not start this annual event, en-US Pride of the Treasure Coast was created in en-US 2008 and took the reins of the event and ran en-US with it.en-US Vendors en-US will range en-US from food and en-US beverage, arts en-US and crafts and en-US commercial en-US goods to politen-US-en-US ical and relien-US -en-US gious groups, en-US the press en-US release added. en-US While adult en-US beverages will en-US be available, en-US this is a family en-US friendly event en-US and entertainen-US-en-US ment will be en-US held to a high en-US standard of en-US conduct.en-US Beverages en-US will be providen-US -en-US ed by Bottoms en-US Up Beverage en-US and there will en-US be dozens of en-US local craft and en-US food vendors on hand for people to sample. en-US The event is free and open to the public and en-US for convenience there are several nearby en-US parking lots and city garages for attendees. en-US Sponsors include Seacoast National Bank, en-US Jensen Beach Community Church, Tropien-US-en-US cana/PepsiCo, among en-US others. en-US For more information about Treasure en-US Coast PrideFest 2018, please visit en-US http://en-US www.prideofthetreasurecoast.org/pridefen-US -en-US est-2018. en-US 16 en-USdealer is wrong. The rescission agreement en-US will have a charge for time and mileage that en-US you have put on the car you are driving. en-US Usually this is a very high charge from 25 en-US cents per mile plus $50 per day and higher. en-US It can take weeks for a special finance en-US lender to rule on a credit application. If en-US your credit is denied you could owe the en-US dealer thousands of dollars which the down en-US payment you made might not even cover.en-US As frightening as all the above may en-US sound, the one single thing you can do to en-US prevent bad things from happening when en-US you purchase a car is to choose your car en-US dealer very carefully. How long has he been en-US in business? What is his track record with en-US the Better Business Bureau, the County en-US Office for Consumer Affairs, and the en-US Florida Attorney Generals Office? Ask en-US friends, neighbors, or relatives who have en-US dealt with this car dealer what their en-US experiences have been like. This years Masters had en-US everything we hoped for.en-US We had the hype before the event began. en-US The best players in the sport were all hitting en-US their stride and it looked like wed be in for en-US a weekend of one great moment after en-US another.en-US We had a player making a hole-in-one at en-US the Par 3 Contest, dislocating his ankle, en-US popping it back in and going on to finish en-US tenth. en-US Our greatest champion, Jack Nicklaus, en-US witnessed his grandson G.Ts first ace in the en-US same event and said, With all due respect en-US to The Masters, allow me to put my six en-US Green Jackets in the closet for a moment an en-US say that I dont know if I have had a more en-US special day on a golf course.en-US Mother Nature gave us some great en-US weather. Save for some rain on Saturday, the en-US flowers were blooming, the air was crisp en-US and breeze was blowing.en-US The tournament kicked off with the en-US greatest tradition in our sport. The en-US Ceremonial Tee Shot. Its like weve handed en-US the bottle of champagne to our greatest en-US players and asked them to pop the cork and en-US officially get this golf year started.en-US Every year, the moment is watched by en-US fans, players and dignitaries alike. Its not en-US unusual to see players who have hours en-US before they tee off, right there to watch the en-US moment. There is none like it at any other en-US time in our sport.en-US Last year was filled with tears and joy as en-US The Masters paid tribute to Arnold Palmer. en-US Gary Player and Jack Nicklaus had a en-US difficult time hitting their shots as they en-US fought tears and made loving gestures to en-US the heavens to acknowledge the late Palmer.en-US This year the feeling was much different. en-US There was joy and laughs and even some en-US ribbing as Player out-drove Nicklaus. en-US Dont worry about out-driving me now. en-US You out-drove me for 50 damn years, en-US Player told Jack after they had hit their en-US shots.en-US For many of us the trio of the Nicklaus, en-US Player and late Palmer, were, and still are, en-US our golf heroes. They represent all that is en-US great in our sport. Its a tradition that I hope en-US continues when this pair can no longer en-US perform.en-US During Thursdays round one patron was en-US nearly on the outside of Magnolia Lane en-US looking in. We all hate those idiots who yell en-US Get in the hole! or Mashed Potatoes or en-US some other sort of nonsense after every en-US shot, even tee shots on par-fives. One such en-US genius was on-hand to do just that after a en-US tee shot. Immediately Augusta National en-US Security descended on the spot looking for en-US the offender. There would be none of that en-US on these hallowed grounds.en-US One writer carrying his credentials was en-US asked who had yelled. No one seemed to en-US know and no one pointed anyone out. en-US When asked what would have happened en-US had they caught this person, they were told en-US that his badge would be revoked permaen-US -en-US nently, he would have been escorted off the en-US property and never allowed to return. Ever. en-US Now this is a rule I think we would all love en-US to see enforced!en-US As I get older I find myself pulling for the en-US older, former champions at Augusta. Fred en-US Couples and Bernhard Langer are two en-US former champions who put on a great show, en-US but eventually saw their games fade over en-US the weekend. The pair finished tied for en-US 28th, only two shots behind Tiger Woods, en-US who needed a final round 69 to pass them en-US on the leaderboard. en-US Another old-timer, Tom Watson won the en-US aforementioned Par 3 Contest on Wednesen-US -en-US day. Its an event that no one has won and en-US gone on to slip on the Green Jacket in the en-US same year.en-US The week went by as many expected with en-US the best players making great shots and en-US posting good scores. Tiger Woods, who so en-US many felt was ripe for a win, struggled in en-US his return and finished well behind, never a en-US factor in the event. There were others to en-US pick up the slack.en-US It all came down to some fantastic play at en-US the end. Jordan Spieth came from 10 shots en-US behind to actually tie for the lead late in his en-US round. Rickie Fowler had his best Sunday at en-US the Masters with a 67, including a birdie on en-US the last to out some pressure on Patrick en-US Reed. In the end he would be there to en-US congratulate the winner.en-US After all was said and done, it was Reed, en-US making clutch putt after clutch put, after en-US clutch shot, that won the 2018 Masters. He en-US played the best, made the tough shots when en-US he needed them and is a truly deserving en-US champion. en-US In all it was a wonderful first major of the en-US year. I can hardly wait until June for the en-US next one.en-US Contact James Stammer at en-USstammergolf@en-US yahoo.com. GOLF en-USJAMES STAMMER en-USStewarten-USFrom page 12

It is information and en-US research I gather from a very special group en-US of people based on data from observing en-US their eating habits. Who are these people? en-US What makes them so special? Is the en-US information accurate? Absolutely, positively en-US yes and here is why.en-US My brother-in-law is the special weapons en-US instructor at the U.S. Naval Academy at en-US Annapolis, Md., and each year, at Spring en-US Break, he takes the Combat Arms Team to en-US compete in several events on the east coast. en-US The last event is in Volusia County, so he en-US always brings the team to our home to en-US spend the night, and I feed them dinner and en-US breakfast the next day. en-US For years I have fed them meat and en-US potatoes, prime rib, pork roasts, potatoes en-US and no vegetables, with brownies for en-US dessert. Breakfast was biscuits and gravy, en-US bacon and eggs, and more bacon. Not this en-US year. Yes, I had the prime rib, but they en-US requested roasted chicken, salmon, fresh en-US salads, gluten free bread and fresh fruit. en-US Now these 12-14 college students, en-US ranging from freshmen to seniors, repreen-US -en-US sented a cross-section of America. Each en-US year they would normally eat two prime en-US ribs, a beef brisket, 20 pounds of roasted en-US potatoes, five big loaves of homemade en-US bread, five pounds of cheese and 50 en-US brownies. This year they ate six roasted en-US chickens, two salmon slabs, 3/4 of a prime en-US rib, a large salad, and I mean large, little en-US bread, 15 brownies and all the fruit in the en-US house, which included more than six flats en-US of strawberries, six flats of blueberries, five en-US pounds of grapes and two dozen oranges. en-US The next morning I made eggs and en-US bacon, and some shrimp and cheese grits, en-US and, yes, more fresh fruit. They ate the eggs en-US and bacon, all the fresh fruit plus five en-US gallons of orange juice, little shrimp and en-US grits. I am afraid they missed out on a great en-US Southern treat, but you dont have to. Here en-US is my New Orleans style cheese shrimp and en-US grits recipe. Its still worth trying.en-USSHRIMP AND GRITSen-USServes 6en-US Ingredientsen-US 1-1/2 pounds medium shrimp, peeled, en-US halved lengthwise and deveined en-US Juice of 1 lemon en-US 1 tsp. Tabasco or other pepper sauce en-US 1-1/2 tsp. salt or more to taste en-US 1-1/2 cups stone-ground grits, not instant en-US or quick-cooking en-US 6 thick slices bacon, chopped en-US 2 cups half and half cream en-US 2 tbsp. unsalted butter en-US 2 cups grated medium to sharp en-US Cheddar cheese en-US Directionsen-US Combine the shrimp with the lemon en-US juice and a couple of generous splashes of en-US hot pepper sauce; set aside. en-US Add grits, half and half cream, butter, and en-US salt into a two quart pot. Simmer over en-US medium heat, stirring slowly, until grits are en-US tender (additional cream may be needed), en-US about 5 -10 minutes.en-US In a separate saut pan cook bacon until en-US slightly brown. Then add shrimp and cook en-US until pink. Add bacon and shrimp to en-US cooked grits. Add cheeses and mix well. en-US Serve warm.en-US Costa Magoulas is dean of the Mori en-US Hosseini College of Hospitality and Culinary en-US Management at Daytona State College. en-US Contact him at (386) 506-3578 or en-US magoulc@en-US daytonastate.edu. Type TOURING WITH THE TOWNIES in the subject line.en-USTouring with the Townies en-USAdd some flair with these common palmsen-USOen-USne of the best ways to add some en-US tropical flair to your yard is through en-US the use of palm trees. There are en-US dozens of choices out there; some common en-US and some very exotic (and expensive). en-US Today I want to talk about a couple of the en-US more common varieties that you might en-US want to try in your landscape.en-US The Queen Palm is probably one of the en-US most common palm tree varieties that is en-US found in our area. These palms are native to en-US Brazil, Paraguay and northern Argentina. en-US This palm is very commonly used as a en-US landscape accent. Queen palms have been en-US assigned the name Cocos plumose. en-US The Queen palm is a very hardy plant en-US that is cold tolerant down to 20 degrees. en-US The tree is also relatively draught tolerant en-US and requires little in the way of watering en-US once the plant is established. The Queen en-US palm can grow upwards to 50feet.en-US The Queen palm boasts a smooth en-US straight trunk that is marked with evenly en-US spaced leaf scars. The top of the tree is en-US marked by a large canopy that consists of en-US feathery like fronds. The leaves are a dark en-US green and have a very graceful and tropical en-US appearance.en-US The Queen palm also has a spectacular en-US display of fruit and flower clusters that give en-US this tree a very unique appearance. In each en-US fruit is a seed with three spots.en-US Queen palms can be used in many en-US landscape environments including lining a en-US pathway or driveway, grouped together to en-US form a tropical hammock, used individually en-US to accent a garden area or for an accent on en-US your front lawn. The uses are endless and en-US the beauty is amazing.en-US There is one downside with these palms. en-US Over the years, there has been a fungus en-US disease that is affecting some of the trees. en-US Personally, none of mine have ever been en-US affected.en-US Another common palm that this found en-US just about everywhere is the Areca Palm. en-US The Areca has feather-like green fronds that en-US radiate from several trunks, which make en-US this a good choice for use as a border. Areca en-US palms are slow growing plants that will en-US grow wider before they get taller. en-US One common problem that you can en-US encounter with these plants is the browning en-US out of the plant tips. This is normal and will en-US happen in almost all cases. These palms en-US require bright indirect light and if you use en-US the plant indoors, keep it within 5to 8 feet en-US of a bright window. If you plant the palms en-US outdoors or use them as a border, plant en-US them on in a part of your yard that gets en-US some shade, either from the structure or en-US from larger trees that might be in the yard. en-US If the Areca receives too much direct en-US sunlight, it will cause leaf browning.en-US The Areca palm requires a fair amount of en-US water but it will not do well in an area that en-US does not drain properly. It does not like to en-US sit in standing water. In addition, over time en-US you may notice a slight yellowing of the en-US leaves. This is normal with these palms and en-US using simple Epsom salts around your en-US palms can often offset the yellowing. Use en-US about a half-cup around each plant and en-US water in. Apply the tonic around your en-US plants about every month or so. This will en-US help keep the lush green color intact.en-US Joe Zelenak has more than 30 years en-US experience in gardening and landscape.
