en-USSchool board mulling en-US medical marijuana useen-USAfter hearing impassioned pleas from parents and en-US community members, Volusia County School Board en-US members are considering a policy that would allow en-US students to be treated with medical marijuana at en-US school.en-US Although legal at the state level, only two Florida en-US school districts allow medical marijuana for stuen-US -en-US dents on school grounds, Broward and Santa Rosa en-US counties. This is due to the conflicting state and feden-US-en-US eral laws regarding cannabis, school officials said.en-US When you talk about medical marijuana in the en-US media, its the low-THC type of marijuana, Volusia en-US Schools Attorney Michael Dyer said during the Sept. en-US 11 regular board meeting. CBD hemp oil is a low en-US THC cannabis extract but its also still a en-US prohibited substance according to federal en-US law.en-US When Florida amended its constitution to en-US allow qualified patients access to medical en-US marijuana, it specifically excluded places of en-US education, Mr. Dyer said. en-US It specifically says, Nothing in this section en-US shall require any accommodation of any on-site en-US medical use of any ... place of education, he said. en-US The Legislature has adopted some additional lanen-US-en-US guage (in regards to medical marijuana).en-US However, school officials cannot be designated as en-US a caregiver to administer medical marijuana.en-US Its a rather unusual process that the state has en-US adopted, and I think its because they are trying to en-US wrangle with the fact that it is still prohibited by feden-US -en-US eral en-US law, he said. The en-US Legislature requires the school board to en-US adopt (its own) policy regarding medical marijuaen-US -en-US na.en-US With federal and state laws clearly in conflict, en-US board members must find a balance in any policies en-US adopted. School districts receive federal funds, and en-USThe Volusia County Counen-US -en-US cil unanimously approved a en-US more than $2 million conen-US -en-US tract that privatizes the counen-US -en-US ty medical examiners office, en-US reducing risk while mainen-US-en-US taining new efficiency stanen-US-en-US dards. en-US From our workshop in en-US July, we received direction to en-US update the contract that en-US essentially privatizes the en-US office, said George Recktenen-US -en-US wald, interim county managen-US-en-US er. When we get some canen-US-en-US didates (for the permanent en-US position of county medical en-US examiner) we will convene a en-US committee.en-US The new contract falls in en-US line with State Medical en-US Examiner Districts 5 and 6, en-US both of which have flouren-US -en-US ished under the system and en-US Dr. Jon Thogmartins effien-US-en-US ciency standards, and proen-US -en-US vides some provisions allowen-US -en-US ing the county government en-US to track operations. en-US I think the most importen-US-en-US ant aspect the taxpayers are en-US going to want to know, is that en-US you have a set amount youre en-US going to spend, so if theres en-US (any legal issues that arise), en-US the county isnt going to take en-US that hit, the (Medical Examen-US-en-US iners Office) takes the hit, en-US Dr. Thogmartin told council en-US members at the Sept. 18 regen-US-en-US ular meeting in DeLand. en-US In addition, the county will en-US have less of an administrative en-US burden while the office operen-US -en-US ates more independently, he en-US said. en-US It changes the whole en-US office as far as efficiency, en-US said Dr. Thogmartin, who en-US was recently reappointed en-US state medical examiner for en-USCounty approves en-US new contract for en-US medical examiner en-USDaytona Beachen-US bodybuilder going en-US strong at 60en-USDaytona Beach resident en-US Lee Apperson is a profesen-US -en-US sional bodybuilder who just en-US returned from the Internaen-US-en-US tional Federation of Body en-US Builders Pro Masters bodyen-US -en-US building contest Aug. 29 in en-US Pittsburgh.en-US He placed a disappointing en-US (to him) second, but at age en-US 60 is looking ahead to even en-US more challenges. en-US Ive won every championen-US-en-US ship of every organization en-US that exists except this, which en-US is the pro level, the highest in en-US the world, he said. The en-US clearer the goal, the easier the en-US trip. You can do it. en-US The Appersons who have en-US been married eight years are en-US never apart. en-US I would never be here withen-US -en-US out her, he said. en-US She said, I was more en-US attracted to the inside, thats en-US what won me. en-USYen-USou know I am always en-US humbled when a reader en-US apen-USproaen-US ches to tell me en-US they appreciate reading what I en-US write. en-US As a writer you cant do en-US much better than that. Quite en-US often those same people say en-US they admire my talent and en-US wish they could do the same. en-US That always makes me smile en-US for I have never considered en-US myself a great (or competent) en-US writer. I am a storyteller who en-US has the ability to put his tales en-US in print. en-US Sometimes folks will ask me en-US how I got started. Well, that en-US began in high school back in en-US Louisiana. One day my en-US English teacher, Mrs. Lofton, en-US told me to stay after class and I en-US was sure she was going to light en-US into me for my weak C en-US grade. To my surprise she told en-US me that although I was poor en-US in grammar, she did like my en-US compositions. She said as the en-USfaculty member in charge of en-US the school newspaper, she en-US would like for me to submit a en-US story. en-US As you might guess I had en-US little interest in that until she en-US told me it would help my en-US grade. She said I could write en-US about anything I liked. I went en-US to work on a dissertation on en-US why the vulture should replace en-US the eagle asen-US the national bird. I en-US thought that perhaps I had en-US gone too far, but to my en-US surprise it was published and en-US on the next report card my en-US English grade had jumped to en-US A. en-US That day I learned the en-US power of the pen. Up until en-US then girls, cars and sports (in en-US that order) were my main conen-US -en-US cern, but after that I never en-US stopped writing. en-US If you are like most people en-US you probably believe you have en-US a story to tell. You do! I always en-US tell people to write just as they en-US talk. Dont be preteen-US ntious and en-US insert words you would never en-US use in everyday conversation. en-US No one cares about your en-US vocabulary, they just want to en-US read something that flows. en-US I have a friend who sends en-US me long, in-depth emails on en-US various subjects, but they are en-US so difficult to read I have yet en-US to finish one. The man knows en-US what he is talking about, but en-US chooses to voice it in too en-US many words that make me run en-US for a dictionary. When people en-US tell me they have read my en-US fishing book in one sitting, I en-US am always so pleased. That en-US means it was an easy read. en-US These days writing a book en-US and getting it published is a en-US much easier thing than it once en-US was. Todays computer en-US technology has made it a fairly en-US simple process. I began en-US banging on an old Smith-Coen-US -en-US rona manual typewriter and en-US that meant making copies, en-US using lots of Whiteout and en-US mailing thick manuscripts to a en-US publisher.en-US Now you can store your en-US pages and photos on a en-US machine and send them along en-US to a printer with ease. Many en-US local print shops will do the en-US set up for you and put you on en-US the right path for a small en-US price. en-US If that seems too daunting a en-US task, begin by keeping a en-US journal. If you are like me and en-US are having memory problems, en-US keep writing materials handy en-US at all times so you can jot en-US down any recollections that en-US come to the surface. Write to en-US amuse yourself. en-USA-4 Ormond Beach/Daytona Beach/Holly Hill en-USDistrict 6, which covers Pasco en-US and Pinellas counties. Also, en-US youre going to have (to proen-US -en-US vide) a lot less administrative en-US support.en-US Volusia is in District 7, en-US which encompasses the entire en-US county.en-US Following an abrupt resigen-US-en-US nation by Dr. Sara Zydowicz as en-US medical examiner in May, en-US after only a month on the job, en-US council members entered into en-US a $780,000, six-month service en-US contract with Dr. Thogmartin en-US as interim ME to address conen-US -en-US cerns raised by Dr. Zydowiczs en-US departure.en-US Dr. Zydowicz claimed in a en-US letter to the state medical en-US examiners commission the en-US conditions and workload en-US could cause a critical error at en-US the medical examiners facility, en-US which is slated to be replaced en-US by a $13.3 million facility to en-US serve Volusia and Seminole en-US counties.en-US The contract does not en-US increase the amount the counen-US -en-US ty will spend, Councilwoman en-US Deb Denys said.en-US Were going to have a lot en-US more efficiency and less risk en-US for then-US e same amount of en-US money, Ms. Denen-US ys said.en-US Youre still going to have en-US the part-time doctors, but en-US youre applying those same en-US principals to the entire office, en-US Dr. Thogmartin said. It will en-US do better. Its a proven mode. en-US My own district has been en-US doing it this way for 48 years.en-US Efficiency already is showen-US -en-US ing under the new system, he en-US said.en-US There are some cases, like en-US with traffic accidents and en-US some others, when the cause en-US of death is obvious, and youre en-US just documenting the injuries, en-US Dr. Thogmartin said. In those en-US cases, if I can determine a en-US cause of deathen-US and sign off on en-US the death certificate the same en-US day, I do it.en-US Some cases done by previen-US -en-US ous doctors still remain unfinen-US-en-US ished, however. en-US My biggest problem right en-US now isen-US getting the previous en-US doctors to finish their cases, en-US he said. You might have a case en-US that was started in May and en-US the doctor wont finish and en-US sign off on it, and I just dont en-US understand that.en-US A total of 16 doctors now en-US work at least part time on the en-US countys caseload, although en-US the search has not quite begun en-US in earnest for a permanent, en-US full-time, chief medical examen-US-en-US iner.en-US Ive made it a point that the en-US physicians that are coming en-US into work for you Ive got a en-US lot of redundancy now, and en-US thats what I was hoping to en-US build up to, he sen-US aid. Some of en-US those physicians may be interen-US -en-US ested in the joben-US and (council) en-US may be interested in them, and en-US I get to see the way they work.en-US started using the Wilson readen-US -en-US ing system, Ms. Sentell said. en-US It is designed for children en-US that have language learning en-US disabilitiesen-US or dyslexia, but it is en-US also for the struggling reader.en-US A lot of schools want the en-US program, buen-US t they dont always en-US have the clout to acquire the en-US money for it. Now that legislaen-US -en-US tion in Florida takes a closer en-US look at reading in schools, Ms. en-US Sentell believes the momenen-US -en-US tum is ripe for this particular en-US program to be brought in and en-US adopted.en-US There are students that en-US have characteristics or learnen-US -en-US ing disabilities and because of en-US that they need to have a proen-US -en-US gram that addresses their en-US learning style, she said. en-US Teachers need the training in en-US order to implement these recen-US-en-US ognized accredited programs, en-US such as Wilson. en-USBut whether its Wilson or en-US another program, teachers will en-US now have to get trained under en-US the new law.en-US Ms. Sentell defined the Wilen-US -en-US son program as an intensive en-US multi-sensory structured lanen-US -en-US guage program that addresses en-US the needs of dyslexic or lanen-US -en-US guage-disabled students. She en-US said it is required for them, but en-US the program helps all children. en-US The teachers are so open en-US and so enthusiastic and so en-US attentive, she said, but, you en-US cant bring it in all at once, you en-US have to start somewhere and en-US build upon it. en-US Lida Grillo, K-5 ESE Cooren-US -en-US dinator for Volusia County en-US Schools, said the district hasnt en-US been sitting on its hand.en-US We have been implementen-US -en-US ing things along the way and en-US increasing what we are doing en-US every year, Ms. Grillo said. en-US We had programs that could en-US support students with dyslexen-US-en-US ia, but there were some stuen-US-en-US dents with dyslexia who didnt en-US respond to those programs en-US who needed something differen-US -en-US ent and more intense.en-US Dyslexia is an associated en-US condition of specific learning en-US disability. en-US Wilson is the program we en-US are bringing in to help support en-US those students. It is in part en-US because of the law, but not en-US only because of the law, Ms. en-US Grillo asid. We realize we en-US have to have something addien-US -en-US tional for the students that en-US dont respond to the pieces we en-US already have in place. We are en-US going to keep making things en-US better. This is a big step. en-US One ESE teacher from every en-US elementary school is being en-US trained. Next year another en-US round of teachers will be en-US trained. en-US Ms. Grillo said if you can en-US address the issue early on, you en-US prevent the gap from getting en-US larger. en-US Dr. Pat Sekel, a national en-US education consultant and literen-US -en-US acy specialist who lives in Port en-US Orange, said the new law is a en-US step up for Florida. This is the en-US first time that Florida has en-US addressed dyslexia straight on en-US (as opposed to being under the en-US umbrella of specific learning en-US or language disabilities), Dr. en-US Sekel said. en-US She added, Wilson is highly en-US touted across the United en-US States. I applaud Volusia en-US County Schools for taking the en-US bull by the horns and recogen-US -en-US nizing their teachers need en-US some more information. en-US For more information on en-US Dyslexia: Dispelling Myths en-US and Supplying Solutions, visit en-US October is en-US Dyslexia Awareness Month. He en-USSeeen-US en-US BUSINESS,en-US page A8en-USTen-UShe latest unemployment en-US report for Volusia County en-US shows just what youd like en-US to see.en-USIts going down. The state en-US labor agency reported the en-US jobless rate for Volusia was 3.8 en-US percent in August, down from en-US 4 percent in July and 4.4 en-US percent in August 2017. After en-US ticking up slightly during the en-US early summer, the estimated en-US number of workers unemen-US -en-US ployed dropped below 10,000 en-US in the county in August.en-US The labor force has grown en-US to 255,867 from 251,896 a year en-US ago while the number of en-US workers employed is up to en-US 246,119 from 240,726. About en-US 5,500 more workers are en-US employed than a year ago, but en-US the numbers could be even en-US greater if workers with the en-US right skills matched up with en-US the available jobs better.en-US Im not talking about simple en-US retail jobs like stocking shelves en-US or operating a blower on a en-US lawn maintenance crew. We en-US need more people with skills en-US in construction, engineering, en-US manufacturing and other en-US higher-paying industries.en-US Thats obvious when you en-US look at wages in Volusia, en-US which the latest report shows en-US still arent great. The state just en-US released the Quarterly Census en-US of Employment and Wages en-US with the average annual wage en-US at $39,584. That puts us in the en-US middle of the pack in a state en-US notorious for low wages. en-US There are at least 30 counties en-US out of 67 with a higher en-US occupational wage. en-US At least wages were growing en-US in the first quarter, but just at en-US a 2.5 percent clip. Not too en-US good when you consider en-US inflation is at about 2.7 en-US percent.en-US So how do we overcome low en-US wages and slow low wage en-US growth. Theres a two-prong en-US approach I think would help. en-US More individuals need to push en-US themselves to improve their en-US skills and go for better jobs, en-US and the state needs to increase en-US the minimum wage from the en-US current $8.25 rate to at least en-US $10 an hour. Granted not a lot en-US of employers have the luxury en-US of paying below $10 an hour en-US now, but enough do that it en-US would help the people who are en-US trying to pay for getting en-US educated for those higher en-US paying jobs.en-US ***en-US With the Courtyard by en-US Marriott opening this month en-US in DeLand, I guess it was time en-US to start building another hotel. en-US The developer, Gannath en-US Investment, acquired the site en-US for a Holiday Inn at Country en-US Club Corners in DeLand for en-US $765,450. Its still a en-US ways from attracting someen-US -en-US thing more than seasonal en-US flights to Canada, but eventuen-US -en-US ally the passenger counts will en-US attract the attention of more en-US airlines.en-US ***en-US A couple of final notes: en-US Plans were submitted to the en-US City of Daytona Beach for en-US Seabreeze Marina at 819 N. en-US Halifax Ave., just south of en-US Daytona Playhouse, with 36 en-US condo units and 36 boat slips en-US for residents, two for the en-US public and one for a water en-US taxi.en-US The contraction of banking en-US offices is continuing with the en-US Wells Fargo office at Nova and en-US Spruce Creek roads in Port en-US Orange shutting down. Two of the big ones are en-US emotions and money. en-US As homo sapiens, we have en-US sophisticated abilities to en-US reason. But, believe it or not, en-US these abilities are built on top en-US of the same machinery as en-US other mammals! In other en-US words, even as highly intellien-US -en-US gent beings, we are motivated en-US by the same basic instincts as en-US mice and deer!en-US But then enters this en-US peculiar, abstract thing called en-US money. Unlike bartering en-US systems used in the past, en-US money is a convenient, en-US uniform currency that can be en-US used for just about any en-US transaction. However, despite en-US how smart we are (or think we en-US are), the primitive part of en-US our human brains doesnt en-US always do well with money en-US decisions. en-US For example, when we are en-US in a dangerous or stressful en-US situation, one of our basic en-US animal instincts is fight or en-US flight. Think about it for a en-US moment . when there is a en-US huge downturn in the stock en-US market, what is our immediate en-US reaction? To flee? To run for en-US safety? Our basic instincts can en-US save us when a bear is chasing en-US us, but those same instincts en-US can lead us astray when it en-US comes to money. en-US And, what about impulse en-US buying? Have you ever en-US known someone who stopped en-US at a car dealership just to en-US look, but ended up driving en-US away in a new automobile the en-US same day? The purchase may en-US have felt great for a short en-US while, but was that car en-US compatible with the persons en-US long-term goals for his en-US money?en-US So, how do we override our en-US brain and our most basic en-US instincts? One way is to en-US slooooow down in our en-US decision-making. We need to en-US give our frontal lobes a little en-US more time to kick in! These en-US are the areas of the brain that en-US inhibit the impulse for fight or en-US flight. Give yourself time to en-US think a bit more about your en-US actions. en-US It is also a good idea to en-US involve a second person when en-US making any big decision that en-US involves money. Seek out a en-US spouse, friend, or, better yet, en-US someone with financial en-US expertise, like a financial en-US adviser. Talk it over and give en-US yourself time to process the en-US decision. It will also help if en-US you can keep an open mind en-US and be willing to change your en-US mind. en-US Equally important, when it en-US comes to the stock market, be en-US especially careful when en-US reacting to what is happening en-US at the moment. With the en-US market, patience for growth en-US over the long term is preferaen-US -en-US ble, but, again, the primitive en-US part of our brains isnt so good en-US with delayed gratification. en-US Our tendency is to react and en-US to jump in and out. Unless we en-US are in retirement, or en-USapproaching it, we should be en-US investing for long-term en-US growth, not fleeing from the en-US bear we think may be en-US around any corner.en-US David D. en-USA-12 Ormond Beach/Daytona Beach/Holly Hill en-USWen-UShen Hurricane en-US Florence hit Virginia en-US and the Carolinas, I en-US was happy to see the Cajun en-US Navy had once more mobilized. en-USThe unofficial and informal en-US group of mostly fishermen en-US was formed after the massive en-US flooding that inundated New en-US Orleans after Hurricane en-US Katrina. Back then I was en-US contacted by some of my old en-US friends from the Louisiana en-US bayou country and my en-US hometown of New Iberia to en-US see if I might help with the en-US rescue effort. en-US People with last names like en-US Thibadeaux, Leblanc, Breaux en-US and Boudreaux and their sons en-US and daughters were hooking en-US on to their boats to see if they en-US could be of help in the en-US Crescent City. I knew I en-US couldnt say no and began to en-US prepare my 17-foot skiff and en-US trailer for the 700 mile en-US journey. The Cajun Navy was en-US gathering at Lafayette about en-US 90 miles west of New Orleans en-US and just far enough away to en-US miss the brunt of the storm.en-US To be sure, the Cajuns are en-US all great boat handlers. Even en-US though most of them only en-US owned small john boats, bass en-US boats and air boats, they en-US descended upon the city to en-US help where they could. en-US Before I was to leave, I en-US began to get messages telling en-US me to stay put. As it turned en-US out, the criminals and thugs of en-US New Orleans were stealing the en-US Cajuns boats at gunpoint to en-US be used in looting and en-US robberies. Sure enough I en-US began to see news reports of en-US thugs in boats ransacking the en-US abandoned houses. It was said en-US they even fought among en-US themselves since some wanted en-US to take TVs and stereos, but en-US others wanted to stick to en-US jewelry and cash for lack of en-US room in the boats. Needless to en-US say I decided not to go.en-US Luckily some of the Cajuns en-US armed themselves and en-US persevered and were a big help en-US in New Orleans. After that en-US they would go to Texas after en-US Hurricane Harvey. Now this en-US all volunteer group has gained en-US fame for their emergency en-US work and I am proud of them. en-US Many members of The Cajun en-US Navy made the thousand mile en-US trip to the east coast to try and en-US help out after Florence. en-US Commendable indeed, but en-US here in Florida we have more en-US boats than any state in the en-US union. Where are the Volusia en-US volunteers? Now I know our en-US citizenry is not nearly as close en-US knit as the Cajuns of Southen-US -en-US western Louisiana. That group en-US operates as one big happy en-US family and with good reason. en-US Most are at least shirt-tail en-US relatives. en-US Still, I know our local en-US boaters to be kind and caring en-US people who would lend a hand en-US if they knew how. I also know en-US our local captains can handle en-US a boat as well as anyone on the en-US planet. I am certain we could en-US offer our fellow Americans a en-US valuable service in the en-US aftermath of all these terrible en-US storms. I am also sure if we en-US needed help, the Cajun Navy en-US would be here in force to en-US come to our aid. en-US If there is someone out en-US there (perhaps a bit younger en-US than I) who would like to en-US head up our own version, I en-US would be happy to help and en-US publicize that effort in this en-US space. Boaters as a group en-US represent a brotherhood. We en-US all endure the same problems en-US and enjoy the same successes. en-US Wouldnt it be great to put our en-US expertise to work for a good en-US cause? Think about it and, as en-US Rick Scott would say, lets get en-US to work! en-US Dan Smith has fished the en-US waters of Volusia County for en-US more than 40 years. J en-USust fen-US or the record, I dont en-US really care, but I love eggs en-US and I think you should, too. en-USThe chicken was probably en-US domesticated for its eggs from en-US a jungle fowl around 3200 BC en-US according to Indian history. en-US Egyptian and Chinese records en-US indicate fowl were laying eggs en-US for man in 1400 BC, and en-US Europe has had domesticated en-US hens since 600 BC. I find this en-US interesting because the jungle en-US fowl was not raised for meat, en-US but for their eggs, creating one en-US of our first sustainable food en-US sources. en-US Eggs are such an amazing en-US food source and often times en-US misunderstood. Let me try to en-US clear up a few facts. Eggs en-US contain the highest quality of en-US protein you can buy. The en-US protein from eggs has an en-US almost perfect mix of essential en-US amino acid for humans to en-US build tissue. It is compared to en-US the nutrition of mothers milk.en-US Egg yolks are one of the few en-US foods that contain natural en-US vitamin D. Egg whites and egg en-US yolks contain 3 grams of en-US protein each. One egg white en-US contains 15 calories and one en-US egg yolk has 60 calories. en-US New clinical studies show en-US dietary cholesterol found in en-US eggs has a modest effect on en-US blood cholesterol. The en-US 2015-2020 Dietary Guidelines en-US have removed the 300 mg en-US dietary cholesterol limit, en-US referencing the fact all en-US available evidence suggests en-US there is no relationship en-US between consumption of en-US dietary cholesterol and levels en-US of blood cholesterol. en-US If you want to keep calories en-US down, eat egg whites.en-US Generally brown eggs are en-US more expensive than white en-US eggs, but that is not an en-US indication of quality. Chickens en-US that lay brown eggs are bigger en-US than chickens that lay white en-US eggs. It costs more to feed en-US these chickens resulting in a en-US more expensive egg. en-US Egg cartons will advertise en-US the type of eggs you are en-US buying, so lets look at some of en-US the hype. Since 1950, the FDA en-US has required that all eggs are en-US hormone free. Cage free en-US means a chicken has 120 en-US square inches to move about, en-US but is still indoors with not en-US much room. Range free means en-US chickens have the ability to go en-US outdoors and come in at night, en-US but often times not all en-US chickens will roam outside. en-US Pasture-raised hens will en-US feed outdoors in pastures, en-US consuming a more nutrien-US -en-US ent-dense diet with an en-US increase in micronutrient en-US values. Certain antioxidant en-US carotenoids like lutein and en-US beta-carotene in yolks can be en-US up to a 100 times higher. en-US I personally believe the type en-US of feed chickens eat will affect en-US the taste of eggs. My suggesen-US -en-US tion is to try different eggs to en-US make a plain omelet and en-US compare tastes. en-US Now here are some fun en-US facts. Chickens have earlobes, en-US and if the color is white, the en-US eggs will be white. If the en-US earlobes are red or brown, the en-US eggs will be brown. All eggs en-US are not the same size in your en-US egg carton either. Rather than en-US requiring a specific size and en-US weight for individual eggs, the en-US USDA has guidelines for egg en-US weights per dozen. You can en-US tell if an egg is cooked in the en-US shell by spinning it. A cooked en-US egg will spin like a top and raw en-US eggs will not. The US producen-US -en-US es 75 billion eggs a year, which en-US is 10 percent of the worlds en-US supply. So now youre an en-US expert on eggs. en-US Oh, by the way, to cook en-US hard boien-US led eggs, place eggs in en-US a one quart pot, cover with en-US water, bring to a boil and take en-US off the heat. Let the eggs cool. en-US Perfect even-US ery time! In medium size bowl, en-US using a fork, blend milk and en-US eggs together, add Parmesan, en-US pepper, tomato, ham and salt. en-US Add butter and oil to an egg en-US pan and melt over medium en-US heat. Pour egg mixture into en-US pan and stir with rubber en-US spatula. Cook for 2 to 3 en-US minutes or until the egg en-US mixture has set slightly en-US (option: sprinkle with en-US half-cup cheddar cheese). en-US Place pan into oven and bake en-US for 3 to 4 minutes at 325 en-US degrees until lightly browned en-US and fluffy. Remove from pan en-US and cut into 6 servings. Serve en-US immediately. en-US Costa Magoulas is dean of en-US the Mori Hosseini College of en-US Hospitality and Culinary en-US Management at Daytona State en-US College.
