Summary.

The Minister (who is now Monsieur le Marquis de
la Luzerne) acknowledges receipt of the letter of 26th
August 1787, in which the Administrators recommend a
change from English to French Laws for Tobago.

Careful consideration has been given to all asp-
ects of this question and the Government has decided
to continue the application of English Laws in that
Island and to make no change, except as regards the
Constitution and Procedure of the Courts of Justice.
These are to be brought into conformity with the Fre-
nch practice.

In this way there will be the least disturbance to
commerce and property.

La Luzerne.
