Sir
I send the Engineer, Mr Nepean, to Barbados in
order that he may proceed by first opportunity to To-
bago.
I wish muchly to direct your attention towards
that Island and should you at any time hear of any in-
tention the enemy have relating to it,you should det-
ach speedily all the troops you can convoy to its as-
sistance; hiring vessels for that purpose if others do
not present themselves immediately on the spot.
If you can spare at present a few men that bel-
ong to the Companies at Tobago, I shall be obliged if
they are sent there immediately even if the numbers
do not exceed a subaltern and twenty men; they might
be a help.
I am, Sir
Your obedient and humble servant
J.Vaughan.

Brigadier General Tottenham.
