Sir Ralph Woodford to Earl Bathurst. Rebuilding Public Edifices
after the Great Fire.

I have the honour to lay before your Lordship the Report
of His Majesty's C:uncil on the results of the appropriation
of the sum granted by Parliament to His Majesty towards
rebuilding the Public Edifices of this Colony destroyed by fire
in 1808-And as the most important remain to be erected,
to entreat Your Lordship's favorable interposition with
His Royal Highness and His Majesty's Government so as
to procure such a sum as may enable me to proceed in
providing-ist A Protestant Church-2nd A Building in which
the Public Offices can be concentrated, and the Archives
of the Colony secured from the danger of Wooden Houses,
with proper Courts for the different Tribunals, The Council
Chamber &c. 3rd A Residence for the Governor ;-I have
already submitted to Your Lordship's consideration the many
wants of the Colony, in a new Catholic Church in Port-cf-Spain
and other Churches in the Island ; in Roads thro' the Country,
and other objects mentioned in my former correspondence
to which I beg leave to refer.
