1MADRID,
15th June 1640.
SUMMARY.
This Council has taken note of the appointment of
Don Martin de Mendoza de la Hoz y Quesada as Governor
of Trinidad and Guayana for the period of his life and that
he is not to enter upon his government until Don Diego
de Escobar has completed his five years which will expire
in the middle of 1641.

Don Martin de Mcndoza has sent in a petition stating
that delay would be dangerous and asking that he should be
allowed to proceed to his government at once. He urges in
favour of this application that Don Diego is sick and has
himself asked to be allowed to go for treatment to Cumana
or Margarita.

The Council after careful consideration recommends that
Don Martin de Mendoza be allowed to proceed as early
as possible.

This document is endorsed with the approval of the King.
