Order of Santiago, My Governor and Captain-General of
the town of Santo Domingo in the Island of Espanola, by
letter of the 22nd January of the year 1647, I wrote to you in

Audiencia to verify the reports from Don Martin de Mendoca
of the residencia upon Don Diego Lopez de Escobar.
The minutes and papers of this affair have been seen by
my Royal Council of the Indies and it appears that so far
nothing has been dune to give effect to those orders and as
it is necessary to know what is happening in this Island and
how the said Don Martin de Mendoca is proceeding
I order you forthwith to give the necessary instructions
for this visit to be made without delay and the report of this
enquiry to be forwarded to my Council and I order you to
take Don Diego de Escobar prisoner even though he may
have provided guarantors ; also the report upon the completion

This is to be done without longer delay; it could have
