Alguacil Mayor of the said Town having assembled as the
duly constituted Cabildo, we take into consideration an
application from an expedition of Tibitibi Indians.
These Indians are our friends and they have decided to
attack the Caribs who destroy the Indians of this Island and
who are accustomed to cat human flesh and are therefore
our enemies. These Tibitibis have come to this Island of
Trenydad and to this Town to seek help from the Spaniards
for this expedition.
Therefore as those persons in whom is vested the good
government of the Island we do now direct you, Captain
Pedro de Beltranilla, Alcalde Hordinario of this Town to go
with 20 men with this expedition and to carry out the punish-
ment necessary upon the enemy and if possible to reduce them
to peace and order under the Spaniards.
We direct you to do this in the way you shall consider
best for the service of Christ Our Lord and of His Majesty
and in the interests of these Indians. Being satisfied that
you, the said Captain Pedro de Beltranilla w ill do as directed,
we do hereby name and elect you as Captain and Leader
and to this we subscribe our names.
