THE KING.-Sancho de Alquiza who by my special order
is calling to account Don Fernando de Berrio,Governor of the
Island of Trinidad.
By letters from Diego Nunez Brito, Cura of the Church of
the Town of Our Lady of the Assumption in the Island of
Margarita dated the 24th March and the i6th July, 16io
I have learnt that between the above named Don Fernando
and Don Bernardo de Vargas Machuca, my Governor of the
Island of Margarita much correspondence is carried on to my
prejudice and that of the vecinos and natives of both places.
Also that the trade that is carried on with the enemy in
Trinidad is so great that in July of the said year there were
eleven trading ships in that Island.
From this it has seemed necessary to warn you so that
jointly with the others, you may bring charges against the
said Don Fernando de Berrio of that which there may be in
this and which you may find against him, having used all
diligence necessary to find the truth in all this.
I, THE KING.
JUAN RUIZ DE CONTRERAS.
