A Report by the Master of the ship Unity." 26th July, 1678,
from London.
Summarised in the Calendar of State Papers, Domestic.

The Master of the Unity gives an account of the French fleet
cast away on a sand as they were cruising near Tobago.
Eight men of war were lost and most of the men drowned ;
the Admiral of 70 guns, Vice Admiral 70 guns, Rear Admiral
60 guns, another 6o guns, two 50-gun ships, two 40-gun
ships and eight merchantmen.

Only two ships and some small merchantmen went over
the sand and were saved.

The Master of the Judith state that D'Estrees fleet was
going to surprise Curacoa but through bad pilotage came
upon the Refilet or sand bank at the back.
