DANCING AND ADVERTISING

,

.
.

t The man who teaches people who "can't
dance" to dance Arthur Murray is also a
very good business man who knows the valueof
newspaper advertising. \
,
Last year he spent $1,500,000 in advertis-
ing his dancing schools throughout the nation,
and ninety per cent of this advertising went )
into newspapers. Murray advertises accordingto .
his own yardstick for successful advertising,
which in his own words is this:

"My theorizing days in advertising have
long since passed. My copy pays as it goes
along-or else! I've discovered that there are
three basic steps to successful advertising:
,'.
Jt
I..., ,"y "' ...1 ..4>... .' I,' "(1) Make your copy so interesting ."? ""f'' t'. .
that people will read it-all the way
through;

"((2)) Keep your name constantly 1 before >
the public-advertise as often as
you can; and

/ "((3)) Tell your story where the most
people can see it in the (daily)
news paper, which nearly everyone I
reads every day."

.
And if and when Mr. Murray opens dance
ing schools in America's smaller communities-
he will undoubtedly turn immediately to the .
weekly newspapers, which are read even more
thoroughly and intensively than are dailies
and which are kept in the home from six to
seven days a week until the next issue arrives.
