Abstract: Dr. Delbert Tesar, head of the University of Florida Center of Intelligent Machines and Robotics Research, has just completed a study of the U.S. balance of industrial trade for the House Committee on Science and Technology. The results were not encouraging as he found that seventy-five percent of the trade is mechanical in orientation and twenty percent of these show a deficit of thirty-four billion dollars a year. He is concerned that major corporations make individual decisions (such as shipping out jobs overseas) and that there is no national industrial policy or any attempts to develop the technology here. Several times he states that this is a crisis and economically dangerous to the country.
