Abstract: A longer interview with Hal Batey, who mentions that the University of Florida was brought to Gainesville in 1906 because the city officials agreed to supply free water. When Batey was mayor of Gainesville in the 1930, the city attempted to get the university to pay. He also mentions the football team of 1924-25 which was known at the “Wreckin Crew” and included players as Crabtree, Coffin, Van Sickel, and Jones.
