McTrans is 25!
Over the years ...
Begun in 1986 by a Federal Highway Administration
(FHWA) grant, the McTrans Center has been a self-
supporting service organization within the Department of
Civil and Coastal Engineering at the University of Flori-
da for most of that time, since 1988. This is a quite
unique success story of a center that has continued to
provide software distribution, development and support
service without any funding from any source, except for
user fees. Not only has McTrans distributed a wide vari-
ety of software products to the transportation engineering
and planning profession, it has provided a mechanism for
ongoing support of federally and commercially devel-
oped packages as well. Additionally, McTrans is the
owner and developer of three of the most-widely used
programs in our profession: the Highway Capacity Soft-
ware" (HCS ), TRANSYT-7F1 and TSIS-CORSIM-.

HCS 2010 Update
HCS 2010 was sent automatically to current HCS+ subscribers in May following the HCM 2010 publication. This initial release
included updated modules to implement the new procedures for Signalized Intersections, Roundabouts, Basic Freeway Segments,
Freeway Weaving Segments, Freeway Merge & Diverge Segments, Two-Lane Highways and Multilane Highways.
Updates planned for this year include a new Streets program that combines the Signalized Intersections, Urban Streets Segments,
Urban Streets Facilities and Interchange Ramp Terminals procedures. Updated modules for Two-Way Stop Control (to add six-
lane major streets), All-Way Stop Control (to add three-lane approaches) and Freeway Facilities (to implement oversaturated condi-
tions) are also in the works. These and future updates are automatically provided free of charge to current subscribers.
