TSIS-CORSIMTM

HCS+M

HCS+ version 5.5 (within HCS+T7F) is scheduled for a Fall
2009 release as a downloadable patch. This version follows the
previous release of HCS+ version 5.4 in December 2008.

DAITA: Version 5.5 adds significant functionality and features
to the DAITA turning movement count module within HCS+.
DAITA can now count and import to HCS+Signals pedestrian,
bicycle, heavy vehicle and right-tur-on-red data. Improve-
ments were also made to the collection of unmet queue data and
its translation to turning movement demand values for each
period, which also can be directly imported to HCS+Signals.

The ability to combine data files has been created, allowing
multiple personnel to collect data at one intersection for comb-
ing into one file before importing into HCS+Signals. This will
facilitate the analysis of a large, congesting signalized intersec-
tion where all needed data cannot be collected by one person.

Data: Version 5.5 also provides for data file interchanging be-
tween the Signals and the Unsignal Two-Way Stop Control
(TWSC) module to facilitate comparisons between signalized
and stop-control intersection operations.

2010 HCM: Work on HCS+ to implement the updated proce-
dures coming in the 2010 Highway Capacity Manual (HCM)
continues. The Weaving and Roundabouts modules imple-
menting those completely overhauled procedures are mostly
complete, with modifications to the computations in Two-Lane
and Freeways are also substantially done. Our goal is release
the HCS+ upgrade to coincide with 2010 HCM publication

TSIS 6.2 is now targeted for release in Fall 2009. This new
version will automatically be mailed to those with a current
support subscription. Version 6.2 offers the following changes:

Signal Pre-emption for Actuated Controllers. The previous
version of CORSIM could only handle pre-emption for pre-
timed controllers. Sample input files for both pre-timed and
actuated signal pre-emption are now automatically installed to
the "TSIS Projects" folder.

Traffic Assignment (TA) for Actuated Controllers. The
previous version of CORSIM could only handle TA for pre-
timed controllers.

Two-Lane Rural Highways with Passing and No-Passing
Zones. Added the ability to pass a vehicle by temporarily mov-
ing into the opposing traffic stream on a two-lane highway. A
new input field was added to Record Type (RT) 20, and brand-
new RTs 154 and 155 were added. TRAFVU 6.2 has been
modified to animate two-lane highways. TSIS Next 6.2 has
been modified to enter input data for two-lane highways. Sam-
ple input files for two-lane highways are now automatically
installed to the "TSIS Projects" folder.

Vehicle Type Origin-Destination (O-D) Volumes in FRE-
SIM. The previous version allowed vehicle type multipliers for
standard off-ramp volumes (RT 25), but automatically applied
O-D volumes to all vehicle types (RT 74). CORSIM 6.2 now
offers RT 75 for coding unique O-D volumes for each vehicle
type. RT 74 is still available for cases in which O-D volumes
are the same for each vehicle type. TSIS Next has been modi-
fied to enter vehicle type O-D volumes.

Laneage Drawing in TSIS Next. TSIS Next now draws
straight (no curvature, yet) laneage on the map, somewhat simi-
lar to TRAFVU. This feature is a "work in progress", and does
not handle lane drawing as well as TRAFVU. An icon is avail-
able for switching between lane drawing mode (like TRAFVU)
and the default link-node diagram mode (like TRAFED).

Minor Improvements. Corrected lane-selection logic for
buses in NETSIM; improved some of the input error checking
logic; corrected certain vehicle movement logic near FRESIM
off-ramps; corrected behavior of NETSIM permissive left-turns
or right-turns opposed by a diagonal movement; corrected sev-
eral output processor MOEs; fixed problems in some of the
TSIS Next input dialogs;
