NATIONAL REPRESENTATION AND WORKING GROUP THEMES

National Representation

National Civil Society Teams at the Conference will comprise at
least five members selected from among those persons who
participated in the National Consultations and will include
representation from NGOs, Private Sector, Labour, Youth, Women
and Religious Organisations.

Organisation of the Meeting

The Conference Forward Together in the Twenty-First Century
will examine, inter- alia:

(i) methods for transforming the Region's economies in
order to provide the basis for sustainable
development;

(ii) new approaches for collaboration and consultation; new
modalities for governance; and new relationships
between civil society and governments.

On the first day of the Conference (2 July) delegates will
complete the process of consultation which begun at the national
level and finalise recommendations and presentations which will
be made to Heads of Government during the session which begins at
9.00 a.m and concludes at 12.30 p.m on 3 July 2002.

The recommendations to be presented to heads of Government will
result from discussions in three Working Groups on:

(i) CSME: human Resource Development with Equity to include
issues in relation to gender, youth and persons with
disabilities; migration and the disapora;

(ii) CSME: Capital Investment and Requirements for
Competitiveness;

(iii) Governance; to include the relevance and efficiency of
the instruments of governance.

On the basis of this dialogue between Heads of Government and

representatives of Civl Society, it is anticipated that a better
understanding of the nature of the relationships between civil
society and governments will emerge.
