VACANT POSTS.


POST OF ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT
OF PUBLIC WORKS, GRENADA.

Applications are invited for the post
of Assistant Superintendent of Public
Works, Grenada.
2. The post, which is pensionable,
carries a salary scale of $2,880 x $120 to
$4,080 per annum. The actual point of
entry in the scale will be determined in
the light of experience and individual
qualifications.
3. The appointment, subject to a
medical certificate of fitness which is
required to be furnished beforehand,
will he for,a probationary period of one
year ii the first instance, and inay be
terminated during that period by either
party by'one month's notice in writing.
4. A transport allowance is payable
at the current rate of $732 per annum
and the officer will be required to kebp
a car for the performance of his duties.
Government will be prepared to grant
an interest free loan to the officer for
the purchase of a car.
5. Quarters are not provided.
6. Free passages'to Grenada for the
successful 'candidate, his wife and a
maximum of 2 children will be prb-

They should also furnish copies of
testimonials (which will not be return-
ed to the applicant) certified as true
copies by a Justice of the Peace or a
Minister of Religion or Head of a Gov-
ernment Department.
8. Qualifications-The officer is ex-
pected to possess the standard qualifica-
tion of a civil Engineer. or its equiva-
lent, and have at le:;st three years
working experience on such Public
Works. A working knowledge of Land
and Engineering surveys is essential.
He will be required to assist the Super-
intendent o Public Works generally
and to deputise for him when required
to do so.
9. The officer will be required to
carry out all types of Public Works
and such other duties as may from time
to time be required by the Superinten-
dent of Public Works.
10. He will be subject to Her Majes-
ty's Colonial Regulations and to the
General Orders of the Colony.

IN INSECT CONTROL CAMPAIGN.

Vacancies exist for two team leaders
in the Insect Control Campaign which
will commence in January 1955 or as
soon thereafter as practicable.
Each team leader will be in charge of
a unit of the campaign and will carry
out his duties under the direction of
the Campaign Supervisor. He will be
required to work in any part of St.
Vincent or the St. Vincent Grenadines.

STATUTORY RULES AND ORDERS,

1954, No. 70.

SHOPS (HOURS OF OPENING) (AMENDMENT) ORDER,
1954.

(Gazetted 7th December, 1954.)

1. Short title. This Order may be cited as the Shops (Hours of Opening
and Employment) (Temporary) Order, 1954, and shall be read as one with the
Shops (Hours of Opening) Order, 1942, being the First Schedule to the Shops
(Hours of Opening and Employment) Ordinance, 1942, (No. 1 of 1942) and the
Hours of Employment (Shop Limitation) Order, 1942, being the Second Schedule
to the said Ordinance as from time to time amended, which Orders as amended
are hereinafter referred to as the principal Orders.

2. Late Opening during December. Notwithstanding anything
contained in the principal Orders, during the month of December, 1954, shops in
Kingstown and within a radius of two miles therefrom shall in addition to the
hours of opening and employment fixed by the principal Orders be permitted to
remain open on Wednesdays and Fridays from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.:
Provided that no person ordinarily employed in any such shop shall be required
to attend between those hours in addition to the normal working hours except
with his consent :
Provided also that persons so employed and attending shall be paid for such
attendance in respect of the additional hours worked, at the rate agreed with the
employer over and above the normal wages of such persons, or at the rate of 60
cents per hour whichever is the greater.

3. Commencement and Expiry. This Order shall be deemed to have
come into effect on the 3rd day of December, 1954, and shall expire on the 1st day
of January, 1955.

Made by the Governor in Council under Sections 3, 4 and 10 of the Shops
(Hours of Opening and Employment) Ordinance, 1942, (No. 1 of 1942) this 3rd day
of December, 1954
