It is notified for general information that His Excellency the Governor
Mr. EDWARD BETHAM BEETHAM, C.M.G., C.V.O., O.B.E., hopes to visit the
United Kingdom next month for official discussions regarding matters affecting
the economic development of the Windward Islands. His Excellency, who
will make the journey both ways by air, expects to leave during the first half
of August, and to be away for about three weeks.

EIGHTH OILS AND FATS CONFER-
ENCE.

The eighth Meeting of the Oils and
Fats Conference was held at Hastings
House, Barbados from June 28th to
July 2nd, 1954.
The Conference agreed that the basic
price for copra for the period September
1st, 1954 to August 31st, 1955 should
remain at 62. 10s. (B.W.I. $300) per
ton F.O.B.
The major task of the Conference
was to prepare an outline of the agree-
ment which governments are being
asked to consider as the basis for the
protection of the oils and fats industry
for a longer period beginning as from
September 1st. 1955, when the current
agreement expires. The Conference has
in mind safeguarding the legitimate
interests of consumers while protecting
the primary producers of copra as well
as the manufacturers of copra products.
The Conference agreed that a special
meeting would be arranged before
March 31st, 1955 to coordinate the views
of governments regarding the form of
the new agreement.

GENERALL ELECTIONS, 1954.

The notice of prospective candidates is
drawn to the following provisions of the
St. Vincent (Legislative Council) Order
in Council, 1951:-
Section 10 of the Order in Council pro-
vides that no person shall be qualified to
be appointed as a Nominated Member or
elected as an Elected Member of the
Council or, having been so appointed or
elected, shall sit or vote in the Council,
who at the time of appointment or elec-
tion-
(b) (i) in the case of a Nominated
Member holds any public of-
fice; or
(ii) in the case of an Elected
Member, holds, or is acting Li,
any such office.
Section (1) of the Order in Council de-
fines "public office" as follows :-
"'public office' means, subject to the
provisions of subsection (3) of this sec-
tion, any office of emolument under a
Municipal Corporation within Saint Vin-
cent ".
Any person who intends to contest a
seat at the forthcoming general elections
and who holds any public office within
the meaning of this term as defined
above should vacate such office before
nomination day.
It was declared by the Saint Vincent
(Legislative Council) (Public Offices)
Ordinance, 1952 (No. 14 of 1952) made in
pursuance of the provisions of subsection
(3) of section 1 of the Order in Council--
that the offices of Chairman and Member
of the Kingstown Board shall not be pub-
lic offices for all or any of the purposes of
the Order in Council.
Members of other Municipal Corpora-
tions who are in receipt of payments (by
whatever name called) from such Corpo-

of Storekeeper, Public Works Depart-
ment, St. Vincent.
The post is pensionable and the salary
scale is $2,304x$96-$2,784 per annum.
No Cost of Living Allowance is payable
and Quarters are not provided.
The Storekeeper will be personally
and financially responsible for:-
(i) checking, handling and storage
of all stores received by the
Public Works Department,
(ii) checking and packing of stores
issued,
(iii) maintaining stocks of each arti-
cle, as laid down for the store
concerned,
(iv) losses or waste of stores or irre-
gular issues.
Applicants should have technical
knowledge of the work ordinarily done
in a Public Works Department, e.g.
Building Maintenance and Construction,
Road Maintenance and Construction,
Water Supplies, Mechanic Shop Work,
Surveys.

VACANCY FOR TWO POSTS OF
ANNOUNCER/OPERATOR.

Applications are invited from suitably
qualified candidates for appointment to
the posts of Announcer/Operator in the
Windward I.l:inds Broadcasting Service,
St. Geor'.e's, Grenada.
2. The salary of the post is $1680 per
annum, with annual increments of $48
to $1776 per annum. Quarters are not
provided.
3. The appointment is non-pension-
able, and will b- on probation for six
months in the first insta;ncp. Subject to
satisfactory con.:pletion of the probation-
ary period. appointment will ie on con-

4. The selected officers will be re-

and control the programme outputs from
the studios. A suitable microphone
voice and ability to think quickly and
deal effectively with an emergency, are
essential qualifications. The officers
will also be expected to develop some
aptitude for programme compilation
under the supervision of the Programme
Director and his Assistant.
5. Free passages will be provided for
the selected officers on appointment,
(including wife and children in the case
of married men), and on satisfactory
termination of the contract.


Vacation leave on full salary will be
granted at the rate if one week for each
completed period of Ihree months resi-
dent service.
6. Applications should be addressed

Islands, Grenada, B.W.I., and should
reach him not later than the 20th July,
1954.

THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL (ELECTIONS) ORDINANCE, 1951.


NOTICE OF NOMINATION.


(Section 21).


His Honour the Administrator having issued his writs for the Election of
members of the Legislative Council for ih Electoral Districts of the Colony the
Returning Officers of the said Districts will on the 29th day of July, 1954 now
next ensuing between the hours of 9 a.m. and noon at the places hereinafter
mentioned proceed to the nomination, and if there is io opposition, to the
election of members for the said Electoral Districts.
Forms of Nomination Papers may be obtained at the Offices of the Return-
ing Officers between the'hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. daily except on Wednesdays
when the Offices will be closed at 12 noon. (Sunday also excepted).
Every Nomination Paper must be signed by any six or more electors quali-
fied to vote in the Electoral District for which a candidate is seeking election,
and be handed to the Returning Officer between the said hours of 9 a.m. and
noon.
No Nomination Paper shall be valid or acted upon by the Returning Officer
unless it is accompanied by-
(a) the consent in writing of the person therein nominated,
(b) a deposit of one hundred and twenty dollars in cash, and
(c) the required statutory declaration, Form 26 or 26A.
In the event of the election being contested the Poll will take place be-
tween the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Monday the 16th day of August, 1954.

ON THE ARROWROOT ASSOCIATION.

Under the Arrowroot (Amendment) Ordinance, No. 15 of 1954, notice is
hereby given that the election of a district delegate for each of the districts
enumerated hereunder will take place at the time and place stated :

NORTH LEEWARD DISTRICT.
On Saturday the 24th day of July, 1954 between the hours of 10.30 a.m.
and 2.00 p.m. at Troumaca Government School.
KINGSTOWN AND SOUTH LEEWARD DISTRICTS.
On Saturday the 24th day of July, 1954, between the hours of 10.30 a.m.
and 2.00 p.m. at the Office of the Agricultural Department, KingstoWn.
NORTH WINDWARD DISTRICT.
On Friday the 23rd day of July, 1954 between the hours of 3.30 p.m. and
5.30 p.m. at the Georgetown Government School.

CENTRAL WINDWARD.
On Thursday, the 22nd day of July, 1954 between the hours of 3.30 p.m
and 5.30 p.m. in Area "A" at the Revenue Office, Colonarie and in Area "B" at
the Union Methodist School.
Area "A" includes Three Rivers. South Rivers, Park Hill, Colonarie and
Friendly Village.
Area "B" includes North Union, New Adelphi, New Grounds, Chapmans,
Diamond Village and Lowmans.
On Friday, the 23rd day of July, 1954 between the hours of 1.00 p.m. and
4.00 p.m. at the Biabou Association Hall.
SOUTH WINDWARD DISTRICT.

4.00 p.m. in Area "A" at the Mesopotamia Government School ai d in Area "B"
at the Stubbs Government School.
Area "A" includes all small growers delivering starch to the Association
from Mesopotamia, Yambou, Evesham, Carriere, Hopewell and Rich-
land Park.
Area "B" includes Stubbs, Mt. Pleasant, Calder, Argyle, Brighton, Belvi-
dere, Enhams, Victoria Village, Glamorgan, Prospect, Diamond, Chop-
pins, Carapan, Rathomill, Calliaqua, Glen and Golden Vale.
SAINT GEORGE DISTRICT.
On Friday the 23rd (.lay of July, 1954 between the hours of 1.00 p.m. and
4.00 p.m1. at the Stubbs Government School.
All persons whose names appear on the list of small gro'er's who delivered
starch from the above districts to tthe Arrowrrot Association during Crop 1953-
1954 are entitled to ,o'te and each person is entitled to one vote only.

PRICES CONTROL (AMENDMENT NO. 2) NOTICE.

(Gazetted 13th July 1954).


1. Short title. This Notice may be cited as the Prices Control
(Afnendment No. 2) Notice.
2. Amendment. The First Schedule Part A to the Prices Control Order
(S.R. & O. No. 25) is hereby amended by deleting all the words, figures and symbols
occurring in the columns opposite the article, "Bread, Shop or Hops-Loaf of 1%3
ozs," and substituting therefor the following:
