Salary is $12,600 per annum (fixed). Trans-
port allowance of $840 per annum is also pay-
able. Private practice is not allowed.

Applicants must be qualified to practise in a
:ourt having unlimited jurisdiction in civil and
criminall matters in some part of the Common-
wealth and must have been qualified for not less
than five years to practise as an advocate or
solicitor in such a court.
The Director of Public Prosecutions shall
have power in any case in which he considers it
desirable so to do-
(a) to institute and undertake criminal pro-
ceedings against any person before any
court of law (other than a court-martial)
in respect of any offence alleged to have
been committed by that person;
(b) to. take over and continue any such crim-
inal proceedings that have been instituted
or undertaken by any other person or
authority; and
(c) to discontinue at any stage before judge-
ment is delivered any such criminal
proceedings instituted or undertaken by
himself or any other person or authority.
Applicants should write to the Secretary,
Judicial and Legal Services Commission, P.O.
Box 829, Kingstowh, St. Vincent for application
forms, and should return these to the Secretary
with proof of qualifications and two recent testi-
monials not later than 8th March 1975.

COMMONWEALTH CARIBBEAN PESTICIDE
CONTROL UNIT

STAFF VACANCY

Applications are invited for the post of -
TECHNICAL DIRECTOR
in the Commonwealth Caribbean Pesticide Con-
trol Unit, which is financed by Member Gov-
ernments of the Caribbean Community and
accommodated in the Chemistry Department,
U.W.I., St. Augustine, Trinidad.
The successful candidate will direct the work
of the Unit which includes a laboratory staffed
by two chemists analysing pesticide residues and
formulations. He will advise Commonwealth
Caribbean Governments individually and collec-
tively on the control of pesticide hazards by
legislative means and otherwise. The job in-
volves a considerable amount of travel within
the Region. Applicants should possess a degree
or the equivalent in chemistry, agriculture or
other biological subject, and at least five years
relevant experience. Proven ability to work
with committees would be advantageous.
The successful candidate would be expected
to assume duties on June 1, 1975 or as soon
thereafter as possible. Appointment will be for
15 months in the first instance and may be sub-
ject to renewal. Salary is negotiable in addition
to which the foloving allowances are payable:
10 percent housing allowance and a terminal
gratuity of 10 percent of total salary in lieu of
superannuation benefits.

DEPARTMENTAL AND OTHER NOTICES


LAND AND HOUSE TAX ORDINANCE
CAP. 194

Taxpayers owing property which has not yet
been assessed fdr Land and House Tax are re-
minded of their legal obligation to send a return
thereof to the Inland Revenue. The Ordinance
provides as follows-
Section 12. (2) Returns
"Any person who shall erect, add to, or other-
wise substantially increase the value of, any
house, shall within 30 days thereafter, make a
return in writing thereof to the tax officer. Such
return shall contain a true and correct statement
of the description, situation and value of the
same and also the .annual rental value."
Section 18 provides for a penalty for those
not /sending in returns, the relevant words
being-
Section 18. (Penalty for wilful acts of evasion)
. .. "If any person required to make any
return under this Ordinance shall, without law,
ful excuse, refuse or neglect to make the return',
in order to evade giving an account of any house
or land possessed by him, or whereof an account
is required of him under this Ordinance, or if
any person wilfully makes an incorrect return,
he shall be liable to a fine not exceeding two
hundred and forty dollars."
Note There is no special form prescribed ly the
Ordinance for making the required return which
may be made in the form of a letter to The Tax
Officer,
Inland Revenue Department,
Land & House Tax Office,
KINGSTOWN.


PRESS RELEASE



The general public is hereby notified that the
maximum retail prices for local fresh beef-
unrefrigerated and unprocessed remain as fol-
lows:-

Hind quarters (excluding hocks
and flanks) and shoulder blades $1.50 per lb.
Front quarters (including bris-
ket, liver, heart and flank '...... $1.33 per lb.

Tail, tongue, Kidneys $1.04 per lb.
Lungs, head, tripe, heel, soup-
bones .. .58 per lb.

The attention of all, and in particular the
1)utchers, is drawn to Section 7, subsection (1)
of 'the Price and Distribution of Goods Act No.
47 of 1970 which reads as follows:-

"The Price Control Officer may, by notice
published in the Gazette and in a newspaper
circulating in Saint Vincent, with regard to
any goods the maximum price of which has
been fixed, require that any trader offering
such goods for sale by retail shall cause the
same 'to be marked with the selling price there-
of in a conspicuous and legible manner."

The Price Control Inspectors will be visiting
all meat stalls on March, 8th, 1975 in an effort to
see that this subsection is complied with.
