STATUTORY RULES AND ORDERS,

1974, No. 40.


HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY (ELECTIONS) (AMENDMENT) RULES, 1974.


(Gazetted 25th October, 1974).


1. Short title. These Rules may be cited as the House of Assembly
(Elections) (Amendment) Rules, 1974, and shall be read as one with the House
of Assembly (Elections) Rules formerly known as the Legislative Council
(Elections) Rules, 1960, (S.R. & 0. 1960, No: 35) .(hereinafter referred to as the
principal Rules) and all amendments thereto.
2(A) Rule 13(2) of the principal Rules repealed and replaced. Rule
13(2) of the principal Rules is repealed and replaced as follows:-
"(2) A symbol shown in Appendix A to these Rules may be allo'
cated only to a recognized political party on application by the
secretary of that party made not earlier than the day of issue of Writs
of Election in accordance with section 20 of the Legislative Council
(Elections) Ordinance, 1951, nor later than the day fixed for
nomination of candidates.
(3) On or immediately after nomination day the secretary of
each political party shall forward to the Supenvisor of Elections a list
of the Official Candidates of that party, and each such candidate shall
be entitled to have the party ;p pted opposite his name.
(4) A person who wa .se<'fitdr .party for at least three
lunar months before nom ay sha'~tce accepted as secretary
for the purposes of these unless his apaat ment has been verified

(a) the Supervisor (C lectishaLtexi e the Constitution of
,the party to v if that the appiy nt was in accordance
with the said C sti ution;
(b) in a' case where t r e r ta endments to the Consti-
tution or the recent ti' ucl new rules to the party,
the Supervisor shall n ed by such amendments or
such rules unless he verifies that they were made and adopted
by the party in accordance with the Constitution of the party.

(5) Any political party shall be entitled, on application made in
accordance with these Rules, to be allocated the same symbol that it
was allocated at the last election."

(B) Sub-rule (3) of rule 13 is renumbered assub-rule (6).
