Vacant post of Chief Engineer,
Ministry of Communications and
Works, St. Vincent.

Applications are invited from suit-
ably qualified persons for the post of
Chief Engineer in the Public Works
Departmelit of the. Ministry of Com-
munications and Works, St. Vincent.

Duties:
The Chief Engineer (formerly the
Chief Technical Officer) of the
Ministry of Communications and
Works will be required to admin-
ister and control public works in
the fields of roads, buildings,
hospitals, airfields and the like
with. an annual capital for
new works and a recurrent main-
tenance budget. The Public
Works Department at full
strength, consists of some six pro.
fessionals and seventy non-profes-
sional staff, with a day labour
force of some three thousand. He
will be responsible for the efficient
functioning of Public Works De-
partment and for implementing an
-internal re-organisation of the
Department which is currently
under study.. He will control the
activities of civil engineers with
their associated design and super-
visory personnel of the Depart-
ment in their various disciplines."

Qualifications:
At least ten (10) years post-quali-
fication experience of which at
least five (5) years should have
been spent in a senior engineering
post in a Government service.
Preference will be accorded to a
candidate who is "a citizen of the
Commonwealth Caribbean and
who if not already a Chartered
Engineer, can be expected to ob-
tain Chartered Status following
two years in the post in a perma-
nent pensionable capacity.

Terms of Service:
The successful candidate will be
expected to serve for a probation-
ary period of one year, if his
appointment is on a permanent
and pensionable basis. He may
also be appointed on a three year
contract. The salary of the post
is subject to review periodically
together with other public service
salaries and is not negotiable.

Salary:
The salary of the post is fixed at
$12,000 per annum in the scale
V3, An unfurnished house will be
provided in the case of an expa-
triate officer for which ,he will be
required to pay rental in accord-
ance with local regulations.

Living Quarters will be provided on
the Estate.

Salary:
The initial salary of the post is
$6,000 per annum and increments will
be based on merit and profitability of
the Estate.

Salary will be increased in line with
Salaries Revision now in progress.

Leave:
Leave will be granted at the rate of
two weeks on full pay each year, and
three months leave after each three-
year period.

cant's own handwriting, stating age,
educational qualifications, m a r i t a
status and experience in Agriculture.
