NOTICES.


SCHOLARSHIPS AND ENTRANCE
EXAMINATION-1974.

A competitive examination on which
scholarships will be awarded and
pupils will be selected for admission
to the two Government Secondary
Schools will be held on Friday 28th
June, 1974, beginning at 9.(0) a.m.

2. The Scholarships are open to
pupils attending Government, or Gov-
ernment Assisted or Registered Private
Schools which satisfy the requirements
of the Board of Education, and entitle
the holder to free tuition, games and
Library fees, and the necessary school
books and stationery. All Scholarship
holders, who normally reside, not less
than two miles from the limits of Kings-
town measured by the shortest public
highway shall be entitled to receive a
maintenance grant at the rate of One
hundred and ninety-two dollars per
annum: Provided that should a Scholar-
ship holder cease so to reside, foi any
period during the tenure of the scholar-
ship, no maintenance grant shall be
paid in respect of such period, unless
such scholarship holder is living away
from home for the purpose of taking
advantage of the scholarship.

3. A candidate for the award of
scholarship must;-
(a) be not less than 10 years 6
months nor more than 12 years
6 months old on the 30th
September, 1974. Age must
be proved by a birth or baptis-
mal certificate;
(b) have attended a Government
or Government Assisted or a
Registered P r i v'a t e School
which satisfies the require-
ments of the Board of Educa-
tion, during the twelve (12)
months preceding the 31st
May, 1974 for not less than 75%
of the maximum attendances
possible during such period, as
shown in the Attendance Regis-
ter in the school;
.(e) furnish.. certificate of good
conduct from the Iead Teacher
or Head Teachers of such
school or schools;
(d) be natives of the State, or
children of natives, or have
been resident in the State for
at least two years.


4. The Chief Education officer is
emnpowered to accept for examination
any candidate who through illness has
failed to comply with the requirements
of paragraph 3 (b) above, with respect
to the number of attendances.

5. No scholarship 'hall be awarded
to any candidate'.who obtains less than
one-third of the possible marks in each
subject, and less than one-half of the
total possible marks in the examination.
6. Scholarships are awarded for a
period of not more thaf six (6) years,
provided the scholars' attendance, con-
duct and progress as shown by the
term's report dre considered satis-
factory.
7. Other candidates selected for
admission to the two Government
Secondary Schools, must not be less than
10 years 6 months nor more than 13
years 6 months on the 30th September,
1974, and must also satisfy the same
condition in paragraph 3 (c) above with
respect to certificate of good conduct.
8. Candidates will be examined in
English (including Comprehension) and
Arithmetic, and shall be given an
Intelligence Test.
9. Head Teachers are requested to
submit the names of candidates who
may be eligible for the award of scholar-
ships, and also the names of those for
selection to the two Go ve r n men t
Secondary Schools as fee-paying
students on the prescribed forms, which
must reach the Chief Education Officer,
not .later than Friday 24th May, 1974.
10. Forms are available at the Min-
istry of Education, Community Develpp-
ment and Youth Affairs.

in accordance with the Birds and Fish
Protection Ordinance Cap. 44 as amend-
ed, it is prohibited to kill or take:-
TURTLES
(a) Turtles or turtle eggs on land
(b) Turtles under 20 lbs in weight
LOBSTERS
(a) Lobsters carrying eggs
(b) Lobsters of less than 1 Ib. in
weight

Closed Season:
There is a closed season for turtles
between 1st May and :lst JuIly, alnd al

Any person failing to comply with
these regulations mentioned above shall
on a first conviction before a Magistrate
be liable to a fine of $250.00; or any
subsequent conviction to fine of $500.00
and in default to imprisonment for any
term not exceeding three 93) moitths.

AN ACT to amend the Condominium Act, 1972,
[ 21st May, 1974. ]

Be it enacted by the Queen's Most Excellent Majesty, by
and with the advice and consent of the House of Assembly of
Saint Vincent, and by the authority of the same as follows:-

1. This Act may be cited as the Condominium (Amend- Short title.
ment) Act, 1974, and shall be read as one with the Condominium No. 3 of 1972.
Act, 1972, (hereinafter referred to.as the principal Act) and
all amendments thereto.

2. The principal Act is hereby amended by adding the ew tew i.:

1. This Act may be cited as the Supplies (Control) Short title.
(Amendment) Act, 1974 and shall be read as one with the
Supplies (Control) Ordinance, 1954 (hereinafter referred to as No. 10 of 1954.

2. Section 3 of the principal Ordinance is amended by Principal

AN ACT to amend the Banana Growers Association Ordinance,
1954.

Be it enacted by the Queen's Most Excellent Majesty, by
and with the advice and consent of the House of Assembly of
Saint Vincent, and by the authority of the same, as follows:-
1. This Act may be cited as the Banana Growers Associa- Short title.
tion (Amendment) Act, 1974, and shall be read as one with
the Banana Growers Association Ordinance, 1954 (hereinafter No. 44 of 1954.

thereto.

(B) The Association shall, at each Annual Gen-
eral Meeting, nominate two certified accountants or
firms of accountants qualified to practise in Saint
Vincent from whom the Governor shall appoint an
auditor, provided that where no such nominations
have been made, the Governor may, -subject to the
following subsection, appoint an auditor.
(C) If for any reason no nominations in accord-
ance with the preceding subsection are made at the
Annual General Meeting, the Board may, at any time
before the Governor makes an appointment, nominate
two auditors qualified in accordance with subsection
(2) (B), from whom the Governor shall appoint one.
(D) In the event of any casual vacancy, the
Board shall within one lunar montlhnominate in like
manner two auditors from whom the Governor shall
appoint one, provided that if no such nominations ar3
made, the Governor may appoint an auditor.
(E) The remuneration of the auditor shall
be fixed by the Board with the approval of the
Governor." ,
New section 3. The principal Ordinance is further amended by adding
37A. the following new section immediately after section 37:
Transi- "37A. In respect of the year 1974 the Associ-
tional. ation may, within one lunar month after the coming
into operation of this Act, at a meeting summoned
for that special purpose nominate two auditors
qualified in accordance With section 37 (2) (B) from
whom the Governor shall appoint one, provided that
if no such nominations are made, the Governor may
appoint an auditor."

WHEREAS it is enacted by Section 1 of the Land Surveyors Act, 1973,
that the said Act shall come into operation on a day to be appointed by the
Governor by proclamation in the Gazette.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, RUPERT GODFREY JOHN, Governor of Saint
Vincent pursuant to the authority vested in me by the said Act do hereby
proclaim and fix the 17th day of May 1974, to be the day on which the afore-
said Act shall come into operation.

GIVEN under my hand and the Public Seal of Saint Vincent at Govern-
ment House in Saint Vincent this 17th day of May 1974, in the year
of our Lord One Thousand Nine Hundred and Seventy-four and in
the Twenty-third year of the Reign of Her Majesty QUEEN
