It is hereby notified for general information that in the event of a hurricane
threatening or approaching the Island, the following warnings will be given:-


CAUTIONARY HURRICANE
WARNING.
(1) A red flag with a black
rectangular centre will be;
flown from Police Head-
quarters.

Announcements.'
(3) Three saluting guns will:
be fired.

PRESS RELEASE

It is notified for general information
that the Secretary of State has advised
that the United Kingdom Government
has notified the Director General of the
World Health Organisation under Arti-
cle 8(1) of the International Sanitary
Regulations that as from 18th Septem-
ber, 1970 a valid certificate of vaccina-
tion against Cholera will be required of
every traveller who at any time during
the five days immediately prior to his
arrival in the United Kingdom has been
in any country any part of which has
been notified by the World Health. Or-
ganisation as currently infected by
Cholera.
2. For this purpose, a certificate
showing a single injection of vaccine
given not less than six days and not
more than six months previous to date
of arrival will be accepted as evidence
of validity.

COMMONWEALTH SCHOLARSHIPS AND
FELLOWSHIPS 1971-
UNITED KINGDOM AND CANADA AWARDS



The Governments of the United King-
dom and Canada have invited applica-
tions from suitable men and women
from the West Indies for .the award- of
Commonwealth Scholarships and Febl
lowships tenable at Universities in the
United Kingdom and Canada, under
their respective Commonwealth Scholar-
ships and Fellowships Plan 1970/71.
These Scholarships and Fellowships
are awarded for advanced study or re-
search and are open to persons who, be-
fore they take up a Scholarship, possess
a Bachelor or Masters Degree from a
recognized University or some equiva-
lent qualification. Under special circum-
stances applications may also be consid-
ered for undergraduates if the pro-
gramme of Study they wish to follow is
not available in their own country.
The Utiited Kingdom awards provide
also for further study in the United
Kingdom in the broad field of Medicine.


Applicants should not have reached
their 35th birthday by 1st October, 1971,
but in special circumstances this age
limit may be raised. Preference will,
however, be given to candidates between
22 and 28 years of age.
Awards will normally be made for a
period of two academic years except in
cases where a shorter period is required
to complete the programme for which the
award is granted.
Each scholarship covers expenses for
travel, living and study during its ten-
ure.
Successful candidates will be required
to sign a bond to return to St. Vincent
for a specified period on the completion
of their studies.
Applications must be made through
the Unit Governments in septuplicate
and on prescribed forms available from
the Service Commissions Department,
Kingstown. St. Vincent. Applications
must be forwarded to the Chief Person-
nel Officer, Service Commissions De-
partment not later than 31st October,
1970.
Applications which are incomplete or
are not supported by the required docu-
ments will not be entertained.

\IERELAS by Section 7 of the Bank Holidays Ordinance, Cap. 161, it is
eilacted that it shall be lawful for the Governor from time to time by Proclama-
tion in the Gazette, to appoint a special day to be observed as a Bank Holiday
throui.rhout Saint Vincent.

Now THEREFORE, I Hiywel G(eorge, Governor of Saint Vincent, do in accord-
ance with the advice of the Cabinet, and pursuant to the authority vested in
me by the said Ordinaince, hereby appoint each of the days, Monday the 26th
day of October, 1970 and Tuesday the 27th day of October, 1970 to be observed
as a Bank Holiday throughout Saint Vincent.

GIVEN under my hand and the Public Seal of Saint Vincent at Government
House in Saint Vincent this 16th day of September One thousand nine
