SCHOLARSHIPS OFFERED BY
THE GOVERNMENT OF INDIA

The Government of India is offering
a number of Scholarships for studies in
India to students from the West Indies
under their General Cultural Scholar-
ships Scheme for 1970/71.
The Scholarships cover a wide range
of subjects including Arts and Humani-
ties in general; basic Sciences (including
Home Science, Library Science), Statis-
tics, Commerce, Agriculture, Medicine,
Law.
Applicants for under-graduate study
should be between the age of 17 and 22
years and should possess Senior Cam-
bridge/Matriculation (or equivalent),
those for post-graduate courses should
preferably be between 20-25 years
with at least a Second Division Bache-
lor's Degree.


Further information about these
Scholarships could be obtained from the
Training Office, Kingstown, St. Vincent.
Closing date for applications, which
should be sent to Training Office is 15th
October, 1969.

COMMONWEALTH
SCHOLARSHIPS AND
FELLOWSHIPS

UNITED KINGDOM, CANADA, EAST AFRICA,
HONG KONG, MALAYSIA

The Government of the United King-
dom, Canada, East Africa, Hong Kong
and Malaysia have invited applications
for the award of Commonwealth Schol-
arships and Fellowships tenable at
Universities in the United Kingdom,
Canada, East Africa, Hong Kong, Ma-
laysia to suitable men and women from
the West Indies under their respective
Commonwealth Scholarships and Fel-
lowships Plan 1970/71.
Applicants should not have reached
their 35th birthday by 1st October, 1970,
but in special circumstances this age
limit may be raised. Preference will
however be given to candidates between
22 and 28 years of age.
These scholarships and fellowships
are awarded for advanced study or re-
search and are open to students who be-
fore they take up a scholarship hold a
Bachelor's or Master's Degree from a
recognized University or some equiva-
lent qualification. Under special cir-
cumstances applications may also be
considered for undergraduates if the
programme of study they wish to fol-
low is not available in their own coun-
try.
The United Kingdom awards provide
also for further study and training in
the United Kingdom in the broad field
of Medicine.
Awards will normally be made for a
a period of two academic years except
in cases where a shorter period is re-
quired to complete the programme for
which the award is granted.
Each scholarship covers expenses for
travel, living and study during its ten-
ure.
Successful candidates must give an
undertaking to return to St. Vincent at
the end of their scholarship period.
Applications must be made through
unit Governments in septuplicate, and
on prescribed forms available from the
Training Office, Kingstown, St. Vincent,
from which further information on

these scholarships could be obtained.
Applications must be forwarded to the
Training Office not later than 31st Oc-
tober, 1969. Applications that are in-
complete or are not supported by the
required documents will not be enter-
tained.
