PASSENGER BOATS (AMENDME NT) REGULATIONS.

(Gazetted 27th December, 1968.)

1. Short til-. These Regulaticns may be cited as the Passenger Boats
(Amendment; Regulations, 1968 and shall be read as one with the Passenger
Boat Rcgulk'ion-, 1957 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Regulations)
and all amen Imcnts thereto.

2. Addition of new Regulations. After Section 24 of the principal
Regulations, the following regulations shall be inserted.
24A. Safety Yquipment. Passenger boats should carry in addition
to the requirements of the International Convention for Safety of Life
at Sea, 1960, or Regulations annexed to any other Convention which
from time to time may be substituted for such Convention and which
has been accepted on behalf of the Territory-
Radio Telephone Equipment.

24B. Distress Signals. When requiring assistance passenger boats,
if unable to comply with the International Distress Signals, shall give
the following signals:

Daytime.
(a) A Red Flag at least 3 feet square to be displayed conspicuously;
(b) Emissions of smoke from burning oily rag, etc.;
(c) Repeated flashes from any sun reflected surfaces, for example
mirror, etc.;
(d) Two large items of the boat's equipment to be displayed in the
form of an "X", for example cars, etc. on the upper part of
the boat in such a was as to be vi ible to aircraft and ships.

At Night.
(a) Flames from burning wood or oily rag etc.;
(b) Repeated flashes of a torch or other light.
24C. Master to report to Port Officer time of arr ,al ai- departure.
The Master of a passenger boat shall report to the Port Officer or the

Police his time of arrival and departure, and shall complete the Form
prescribed by the Port Officer.

3. After Section 33 of the principal Regulations, the following regula-
tion shall be inserted:-
33A. Power of arre-t. WVhere any passenger boat or launch fails
to comply with any of the requirements of these Regulations, and in the
opinion of any Port Officer, Customs Officer or Poiice Constable, such
passenger boat or launch ii about to depart from any place in the Colony,
or actually departs, such Port Officer, Customs Officer or Police Con-
stable may order the master of the passenger boat or launch to desist
from so departing, and any master of such passenger boat or launch
or any person who cause- or attempt; to cau;e such passenger bat or
launch to depart in contravention of such order, may be arrested without
warrant by any Port Officer, Cu toms Officer or Police Constable. In
addition to the power of arrest conferred in this regulation, any Port
Officer, Customs Officer or Police Constable may board any passenger
boat or launch for the purpose of giving any order under this regulation
or for the purpose of affecting an arrest.
