IN THE MATTER OF THE LAND ACQUISITION ORDINANCE, 1946.
(No. 22 of 1946.)

PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION.
(Under Section 4 of the Ordinance)
WHEREAS it is enacted by Section 4 of the Land Acquisition Ordinance
(No. 22 of 1946) that if the Administrator-in-Council considers that any land
may be required for a public purpose and it is necessary to make a preliminary
survey or other investigation of the land, he may cause a notification to that
effect to be published in the Gazette:
AND WHEREAS the Administrator-in-Council considers that a portion of
land approximately one lot in extent at Richland Park in the Parish of Charlotte
being the property said to belong to George Prince is likely to be acquired for
a public purpose, to wit, the erection of a water tank on the Montreal Supply
Line;
AND WHEREAS it is necessary to make a preliminary survey of the said
portion of land;
Now THEREFORE, this is to require all persons interested to allow the
Authorised Officer (and his agents, assistants and workmen) :
(a) to enter upon and survey and take levels of any land in any locality te
which the notification relates;
(b) to dig or bore into the sub-soil of such land;
(c) to do all other acts necessary to ascertain whether the land is adapted
to such purpose;
(d) to set out the boundaries of the land intended to be taken, and the
intended line of the work, if any, proposed to be done thereon;
(e) to mark levels and lines by placing marks and cutting trenches;

(f) where otherwise the survey cannot be completed, the levels taken or the
boundaries or line of work set out, to cut down and clear away any
standing crop, fence, tree or bush;

COMMUNICATIONS & WORKS.

Applications are invited for the post
of Engineering Assistant, Water Divi-
sion, Ministry of Communications and
Works.
The duties of the post involve res-
ponsibility for the general supervision
of the Water Works Division of the
Public Works Department, including
supervision of construction aid main-
tenance work on intake works, reser-
voirs, pipelines and fittings.
Applicants should have had practical
training in water-supply engineering
methods, and not less than five years
experience at a supervisory level on
construction and maintenance in the
field. A suitable qualification in Water
Engineering would be an advantage.
The post is pensionable with salary

Secretary and Technical Officer of the

QUALIFICATION:
Applicants should be qualified Sur-
veyors or Building Constructors. Ap-
plicants who are not so qualified but
have at least ten (10) years experience
in Surveying and Building Construc-
tioh or hold a diploma from the Royal
Society of Health with at least ten (10)
years practical experience will also be
considered.
.The person appointed will be the ex-
ecutive Secretary of the Central Houk-
iig ahd Planning Authority and will
.be responsible for the layout, building


construction and development of loIr
cost housing projects. He will also be
required to construct Public Health In-
stallations.
Experience in the handling of labour
and general business administration
will be an advantage.
The terms of employment would
either be on the pensionable establish-
ment or on contract for two (2) or
three (3) years. Salary is in the seal&
$4,704 x $180-$5,604 x $240-$6,324.
Commencing salary will be dependent
on qualifications and experience of the

CARIBBEAN CURRENCY BOARD
HALF-CENT COIN

It is notified for general information
that the Administrator in Council, act-
ing under Section 7 of the Currency
Ordinance, 1965' (No. 1 of 1965) has
declared that the half-cent coin issued
by the British Caribbean Currency
Board under the 1958 Currency Agree-
ment and now circulating in St. Vin-
cent, will not be current or legal tender
after 31st July, 1968.
On and after 1st August, 1968, free
exchange of this coin will not be under-
taken by the Banks, and holders of such
coin are advised to exchange them at
any of the following Banks before 1st
August, 1968:

by given that the election of a district
delegate for each of the districts enum-
erated hereunder will take place at the

SHOP ASSISTANTS WAGES
COUNCIL

The Shop Assirtants Wages Council
hereby gives intice of its intentions to
submit to the Administrator-in-Council
proposals for fixing Statutory minimum
remuneration, holidays with pay and
overtime wages specified in the Sche-
dule below.
The Wages Council will consider any
written representation with respect to
these proposals sent to it within 14 days
from 23rd July, 1968. Any ,'uch rep-
resentation should be SIGNED by the
person making the same (giving his or
her address) and sent to the Secretary
of the Wages Council.
It is desirable that persons making
objections should state precise grounds
for their objections.

SCHEDULE

Minimum Remuneration of Shop
Assistants

1. The minimum rate of remunera-
tion to be paid to the assistants in the
Town of Kingstown and within a radius
of two miles thereof :hall be as fol-
lows:-
A SALES CLERKS
(a) Male. --$60.00 per month or
$15.00 per week.
(b) Females-$52.00 per month or
$13.72 per week.
In all other areas the minimum rate
of remuneration shall be as follows:-
(a) Males -$55.00 per month or
$13.75 per week
(b) Females-$46.00 per month or
$11.62 per week.
Provided that the minimum re-
muneration to be paid to sales clerks
under 18 years and over the age of 14
years shall be seventy-five per centum
of the above.
Provided further that sales clerks 18
years of age and over who have been
employed for the first time as a sales
clerk shall be paid for the first six
months seventy-fve per centum of the
above rate and thereafter the above
minimum rate shall apply.

B OTHER CATEGORIES:-
(a) Cash Boy., -$10.00 per week
(b) Office Boys-$10.00 per week
(e, Pl'ckers Preparing goods for
sale and in store rooms-$12.00
per week
(d) Porters -$14.00 per week

"Sales Clerks" meanii any person en-
gaged in selling any goods or article to
members of the public and includes:
cashiers and persons employed at Gas
Stations.
SCash Boy" means any person under
18 years of age taking goods and cash
to the cashier from the sales clerks to
be paid for by the customer.
"Office Boys" mean any person per-
forming the duties of messenger in the
office of a shop.

shelves in the sales room and persons
engaged in assorting and packing
goods in the store rooms and delivering
goods to the sales clerks.
"'Porters" means persons transport-

addition to Public Holidays, he entitled
to not less than fourteen working days

holidays in every year with full pay,
after the completion of one year ser-
vice. If during the course of the second
or any subsequent year of employment,
the services of a shop assistant should
be terminated, he shall be paid for the
proportional part of the holiday, due at
the time of the termination.
(b) Every Shop Assistant who has
completed x.lx month- cciitinuous ser-
vie.r shall in addition to the above, be
entitled to seven days sick leave with
full pay on production of a Medical
Certificate before the third day of ab-
sence from work til-onih illness.
Provided that no Shop Assistant shall
be entitled to more than seven days sick
Ia;oei in any one year.

Be it enacted by the Queen's Most Excellent Majesty, by
and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council of
Saint Vincent, and by the authority of the same as follows:-


1. This Ordinance may be cited as the Recruiting of
Workers (Amendment) Ordinance, 1968 and shall be deemed
to have come into operation on the 30th day of January, 1968.
2. Section 2 of the principal Ordinance is hereby
amended by inserting between the definitions "Prescribed"
and "Worker" the following definition:-
"Public immigration or employment office" means the
office of the Labour Commissioner and includes any
person or Board set up by or under the direction of
the Administrator in Council to recruit workers under

Be it enacted by the Queen's Most Excellent Majesty, by
and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council of
Saint Vincent, and by the authority of the same as follows:-

1. This Ordinance may be cited as the Chief Technical Short title.
Officer (Substitution of Title) Ordinance, 1968.


2. In this Ordinance-" existing Statute" means a Statute
in force before the date of commencement of this Ordinance.

3. As from the date of commencement of this Ordinance,
the Superintendent of Works shall be called the Chief Technical
Officer.

4. Where in any existing Statute, reference is made to
the Superintendent of Works there shall be substituted therefore
reference to the Chief Technical Officer.

AN ORDINANCE to provide for expenditure during the fin-
ancial year ending on the thirty-first day of December,
one thousand nine hundred and sixty-eight, upon certain
service, in excess of the Appropriation law relating to
the year one thousand, nine hundred and sixty-eight.

[ 23rd July, 1968. ]

WHEREAS the sum of money granted by the Appropriation
Ordinance, 1968, for the services of the year ending on the thirty-
first day of December one thousand nine hundred and sixty-eight
is insufficient to meet the demands of such services.

BE IT ENACTED by the Queen's Most Excellent Majesty, by
and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council of
Saint Vincent and by the authority of the same as follows:-

1. This Ordinance may be cited as the Supplementary Short title.
Appropriation (1968, No. 1) Ordinance, 1968.


2. There shall be, and there is hereby granted to Her
Majesty the Queen, Her Heirs and Successors for the year end-
ing on the thirty-first day of December, one thousand nine hun-
dred and sixty-eight the sum of twenty-two thousand nine
hundred and fifty-four dollars to be paid and appropriated out
