APPOINTMENT OF TRAINEE SYSTEMS
ANALYST/PROGRAMMER DATA
PROCESSING DEPARTMENT,
ST. VINCENT GOVERNMENT.

A applications are invited from suitably
,qualified male or female officers within
and outside the St. Vincent Civil Ser-
vice for appointment to the above post.
(Applicants should be between the ages
of 28 and 40 years.)
2. The duties of the post include:
(a) Preparation, documentation and
implementation of systems and
procedures which will be used
throughout Government a n d
which utilize directly or indirect-
ly computer time. The officer
may also be required to operate
the computer equipment when
considered necessary;
(b) preparing test and document,
computer programmes from writ-
R0 .ten specifications and amending
4 ,d rewriting of programmes to
et new specifications.

4. The qualities sought for in the
systems analyst/programmer are:
(a) Maturity, imagination, creative-
ness and receptiveness to new
ideas.
(b) The ability to communicate with
other people in the presentation
of new systems.
(c) Methodical working and preci-
sion.
(d) A sound knowledge of the work
of Government.
(e) The ability to work with a dis-
ciplined adherence to prescribed
standards.
(f) General data processing know-
ledge.
(g) The ability to work in a team.
5. Educational Standard. The edu-
cational standards would be basically
the same as for Data Processing Man-
agers, as the system analyst would, sub-
ject to satisfactory service, be the likely
future manager. However, applicants
who are particularly successful in the
aptitude test and who had at least two
y'.ars p:'.-tical experience in Treasury
or Audit Departments and who are in
possession of at least five '0' levels in-
cluding Mathematics and English or the
equivalent, would be considered for
training as system analyst/program-
mer.
6. Training. Applicants on a short
list will be given a logic test and only

those who attain the required standard
will be considered further. The success-
ful applicant will be appointed as Sys-
tem Analyst/Programmer and will re-
ceive practical training in St. Vincent
for approximately six to seven months.
On the satisfactory completion of this
period of practical training, the officer
will be snt to the I.C.T. training school
in the United Kingdom for a formal
residential course for System Analysts.
It is the intention of government to
create a post of Data Processing Man-
ager in 1969 and the officer appointed
as System Analyst/Programmer who
successfully completes his practical and
formal training will be considered for
the post of Manager.
7. Salary Scale. HT 1-2: $3,984 x
$180-$5,244.
8. Equipment and scope of the Data
Processing Department.
The Department will be equipped
with a computer configuration centered
on an I.C.T. 1901/2 central processor.
9. The following are some of the
routines scheduled to be put on the com-
puter :
(a) Financial Accounting.
(b) Trade Statistics.
(c) Monthly payroll for Civil Ser-
vants.
(d) Central Medical Stores.
(e) Fortnightly payroll for hourly
paid workers.
(f) P.W.D. Job-costing.
(g) P.W.D. Vehicle and Equipment
hire.
(h) P.W.D. Unallocated Stores.
10. Applications should be forward-
ed to the Establishment Division marked
;'EDP/STAFF" and should be received
not later than the 30th April, 1968.

EXHIBITION 1968

MINISTRY OF TRADE, PRODUCTION,
LABOUR AND TOURISM

A meeting of the General Exhibition
Committee for organising and planning
the 1968 Agriculture, Arts & Crafts
etc. Exhibition was held recently at
the Conference Room, Ministry of
Trade & Production. The dates for
the Exhibition have been fixed for
Friday & Saturday 30th & 31st August,
and Sunday & Monday 1st and 2nd Sep-
tember, 1968.

The Exhibition will be similar to that
held in 1964 and will include agricul-
ture, horticulture, handicrafts of all
kinds, needlework, home manufactured
products, art & photography, exhibits
by commercial firms, and by schools
and 4-H Clubs. Various Government
Departments, Medica 1, Education,
Health & Housing and Surveys have
been requested to put on displays to
project their work to the public. Ad-
ditional features will be contributed
by the Planned Parenthood Associa-
tion, the Archaelogical Society and the
Tourist Board. An interesting pro-
gramme of entertainment and amuse-
ment is also being planned.
The list of items for competitive ex-
hibit is to be published in the near
future but will be similar to the list
used in 1964.
