AN ORDINANCE to vali te cr acts one under the
Local Government Ordil 1951, amended before
assent was given to an amenninance and to amend
the principal Ordinance.
[ 25th September, 1967. ]
Be it enacted by the Queen's Most Excellent Majesty, by
and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council of
Saint Vincent and by the authority of the same as follows:-
1. This Ordinance may be cited as the Local Government Short title.
(Validation) Ordinance, 1967, and shall be read as one with the
Local Government Ordinance, 1951 (hereinafter referred to as
the principal Ordinance) and all amendments thereto.


2. Anything which has been done before the commence-
ment of this Ordinance in purported exercise of any such
power as is mentioned in section 10A of the principal Ordinance,
and which would have been lawfully done if section 10A of the
principal Ordinance had come into operation on the 15th day
of July, 1967, shall be deemed to have been lawfully done.

3. For removing doubts, it is hereby declared that the
acts of revocation of appointments and appointments of nom-
inated members to serve on local authorities, done by the
Administrator in Council under. section 10A of the principal
Ordinance before the Local Government (Amendment) Ordin-
ance, 1967 (No. 4 of 1967) was assented to, are valid acts and
nothing done in good faith by the nominated members of the
Local Authorities shall be deemed invalidated merely by
reason of any defect in their appointment or procedure.

4. Subsection (1) of section 12 of the principal Ordinance
is hereby repealed and the following substituted therefor:-

12. (1) At the first meeting of a local authority
which shall be held within twenty-one days of its
constitution, the members present and voting shall
elect by ballot one member not being a public officer
to be the Chairman to hold office for one year unless
he is sooner removed by a resolution of the members
present and voting at a properly constituted meeting:
Provided that in the event of the inability of the
local authority to elect a Chairman the Administrator
in Council shall be empowered to appoint a Chairman.
This subsection shall be deemed to have come
into operation on the 15th day of July, 1967.
