"To all members of the Merchant Navy and particularly to
those of you who will be spending Christmas in clubs and
hostels overseas, it gives me great pleasure to send you
seasonal greetings once again.
I know many of you will enjoy Christmas in clubs for sea-
farers far away from home, and I am sure those of you who
enjoy this traditional good cheer will wish to join with me
in thanking all those who make this possible.

SHOPS (HOURS OF OPENING AND EMPLOYMENT)" (TE p O Y)
ORDER (NO. 3).
(Gazetted 20th December, 1962).
1. Short title. This Order may be cited as the Shops (Hours of Opening
and Employment) (Temporary) Order (No. 3) 1962, and shall be read as one
with the Shops (Hours of Opening) Order, 1942, being the First Schedule to
the Shops (Hours of Opening and Employment) Ordinance, 1942, (No. 1 of
1942) as from time to time amended, and the Hours of Employment (Shops
Limitation) Order, 1942, being the Second Schedule to the said Ordinance as
from time to time amended, which Orders as amended are hereinafter referred
to as the principal Orders.
2. Opening on Wednesday, 26th December, 1962. Notwithstanding any-
thing contained in the principal Orders, shops in the Colony shall in addition
to the days and hours of opening and employment fixed by the principal
Orders be permitted to open and remain open on Wednesday the 26th day of
December, 1962, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Provided that no person ordinarily employed in any such shop shall be
required to attend on that day except with his consent:
Provided also that persons so employed and attending shall be paid for
such attendance in respect of the hours worked, twice the hourly equivalent of
the normal wages payable to the person so employed during the week in which
he was so employed:
Provided further that the total amount paid for such attendance hall
not be less than the sum of Two Dollars.
Made by the Administrator in Council under Sections 3, 4 and 10 of the
Shops (Hours of Opening and Employment) Ordinance, 1942 (No. 1 of 1942),
this 19th day of December, 1962.
