VACANT POSTS.
LEGISLATURE, BRITISH GUIANA.

VACANCIES FOR Two OFFICIAL
REPORTERS.

Applications are invited for appoint-
ment as Official Reporters, Legislature,
with salary on the scale $2,400 x $120-
$3,120//x $144-$4,272//x $144-$4,560
per annum-pensionable: initial salary
will be commensurate with qualifica-
tions and/or experience: appointment
on contract for three years renewable by
mutual consent would be allowed where
candidates are over 40 years of age and
not in Public Service.
2. Duties: (i) Attend meetings of
the Legislative Council and re-
cord the proceedings accurately
in shorthand ;
(ii) transcribe notes taken and make
typewritten copies of them for
Ilansard; and
hiil) carry out such other duties as
may be assigned by the Head of
the Department or other duly
authorised officer.
3. Qualifications: A good education
with ability to write shorthand at a
speed of not less than 150 words a min-
ute and to typewrite at a speed of not
less than 60 words a minute. Previous
experience in Legislature reporting will
be an advantage.
4. Medical fitness: The successful
candidates, if not already holding pen-
sionable posts in the Public Service, will
be required 1o pass a medical examina-
tion for admission thereto.
5. Leave: General Orders and ex-
isting regulations on the subject provide
five days' leave for each completed
month of resident service up to a maxi-
muntm of six months. A minimum tour
of service is two years.
6. Appointment will be subject to
Colonial Regulations, General Orders,
Stores Regulations, Financial Regula-
tions, and other local regulations in
force from time to time in so far as they
are applicable. Passages to British
Guiana for himself, his wife and chil-
dren (if any), not exceeding five per-
sons in all, provided they either accom-
pany him to British Guiana or join him
there within twelve months of his de-
parture for the Colony: (children to
be under 18 years of age, unmarried and
dependent on the officer) would be pro-
vided on appointment and on the satis-
factory completion of the period of ser-
vice if on contract.

AGRICULTURAL OFFICER (EXTENSION)
DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE,
ST. VINCENT.

Applications are invited for the post
of Agricultural Officer (Extension),
Department of Agriculture, St. Vincent.
SALARY:
The salary of the post, which is
pensionable, is in the scale $3,360 x
$120-$4,320, plus a pay addition of
20% of salary. The appointment will
be on a contractual basis or on
secondment, for a period of 2 years in
the first instance. The pension rights
of any pensionable seconded officer
will be preserved.
DUTIES:
The duties of the officer will be
those assigned to him by the Superin-
tendent of Agriculture to whom he
will be directly responsible. Such
duties will include the direction of
Agricultural Extension and Soil Con-
servation programmes, as well as gen-
eral work of an administrative nature.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The minimum qualification re-
quired is the Diploma of the Imperial
College of Tropical Agriculture or an
equivalent degree, with experience in
Tropical Agriculture. General admin-
istrative experience and knowledge of
extension work would be advanta-
geous.
Further particulars regarding the ap-
pointment may be obtained froni the
Chief Secretary, Windward Islands,
Grenada, to whom applications should


be addressed to reach him not later
than the 30th April, 1958.

POST OFFICE NOTICES.

The following arrangements have
been made in connection with the
special issue of Federal Commemorative
Stamps of 3c., 6c. and 12c. denomina-
tions on April 22nd 1958.

BULK SUPPLIES.
Persons requiring bulk supplies, i.e.
2 or more complete sheets of stamps,
are requested to send requisitions for
these together with covering remit-
tances to the Colonial Postmaster not
later than Friday April 18th. The
stamps will be enclosed in sealed
packets for delivery at the G.P.O. from
7.30 a.m. on the morning of the 22nd
until 11 a.m. Purchasers unable to take
delivery in person should send written
orders for the packets.

COUNTER SALES AND
REGISTRATION.
The General Post Office will be open
from 9.00 a.m.-11.00 a.m. on the 22nd
for sale of Commemorative Stamps, for
receiving unregistered First Day covers
in bulk, which should be Delivered to a
counter clerk, and for registration of
First Day Covers.

In cases where a number of regis-
tered covers are being posted to the
same address it would save time if they
could be listed in duplicate so that a
bulk receipt can be given for each batch.
POST MARKING WITH DATE

All letters posted at the G.P.O. up to
8 p.m. or in the street boxes in Kings-
town up to 6 p.m., on the 22nd will be
post marked "22nd April 1958."

sale of the new stamps from 9 a.m.-
10 a.m. on 22nd April. All letters posted
up to 4 p.m. on that day will be post
marked "22nd April 1958."

ance with Section 25 of the Local Gov-
ernment Ordinance, No. 17 of 1951, the
Clerk will be in attendance at the Meso-
potamia Police Station on Monday,
21st April, 1958 from 10.00 a.m. to
2.00 p.m. to receive nominations to fill
the seat of Mr. Amos Bacchus, an
elected member of the iMarriaqua Vil-
lage Council caused by the forfeiture of
seats under Section 16 (b) of the Local
Government Ordinance No. 17 of 1951
as amended by Ordinance No. 38 of
1954.
Should a poll be required, it will be
taken on Tuesday, 29th April, 1958

and fifty-seven dollars and sixty cents

Orange Hill Estates Limited on the 25th
day of March, 1958 in trust for the de-
pendents of the late H. Da Souza.

COTTON PROTECTION (CLOSE SEASON) ORDER.


(Gazetted 15th April, 1958).


1. Short title. This Order may be cited as the Cotton Protection
(Close Season) Order, 1958.

2. Close Season. The period beginning on the 1st day of May, 1958,
and ending on the 15th day of August, 1958, for the Island of Saint Vincent, and
the period beginning on the 1st day of April, 1958, and ending on the 30th day of
'June, 1958, for the St. Vincent Grenadines shall be close seasons within the
meaning of the Cotton Protection Ordinance, (Cap. 37).


Made by the Governor in Council under section 3 of the Cotton Protection
Ordinance (Cap. 37) this 11th day of April, 1958.
