PRESS RELEASES.
The West Indian Governments have
agreed to request Sir ERIC MILBOURN to
act as adviser to their delegates on the
Joint Commission which will investigate
all aspects of The West Indies' request
that Chaguaramas be made available as
the Federal Capital.
Sir Eric Milbourn has been adviser on
Shipping in Port to the Ministry of Trans-
port and Civil Aviation since 1946. In
recent years, he has advised several West
Indian Governments on harbour instal-
lations and port facilities.

investigate all aspects of the British West
Indies' request to make Chaguaramas

Mr. KENNETH HERBERT STRAW has been
appointed as Senior Economist, Economic
Planning Division, in the Federation of
the West Indies, with effect from the 20th
November, 1957.
Mr. Straw was born on 20th September,
1919, and educated at Stockport Gram-
mar School and Victoria University,
Manchester. He graduated in Econo-
mics, Politics and Modern History in
1947.
During the War, he served in the Royal
Navy. His experience is as follows:-
Research Azsistant, Victoria Univer-
sity, Manchtetcr-September, 1948
-December, 1S50,
Research Assistant and Zesearch Fel-
low, Institute of Social and Econo-
mic Research, University College of
The West Indies January, 1951-
September, 1954;
Research Officer in Economics, Insti-
tute of Statistics, Oxford-October,
1954 to date.
Mr. Straw is married and has two chil-
dren. He left the United Kingdom by
the S.S. "Oranjestad" on the 7th Decem-
ber and arrived in Trinidad on the 23rd
December.

SENIOR MEDICAL OFFICER, ST. KITTs-NEVIS
ANGUIILA.

It is notified for general information
that a vacancy will shortly be created in
the Medical and Health Department, St.
Kitts Nevis Anguilla for a Senior Medical
Officer. Applications are invited from
suitably qualified persons for appoint-
ment to the post.
2. The holder of the post will be ap-
pointed on contract for a period of three
years at a salary of $7,776 per annum
without private practice. The post car-
ries an annual travelling allowance of
$720 and Government quarters at a
rental of 10% of salary or an assessed
rental, whichever is the less.
3. The Senior Medical Officer will be
the head of the Medical and Health
Department of the Colony of St. Kitts
Nevis Anguilla and will be required to
advise on the recruitment transfer and
promotion of staff. He will be expected
particularly to develop the preventive
side of the work of the department in
matters pertaining to sanitation, mater-


nal and child health, health education
etc. He will be ex-officio Chairman of
the Central Board of Health and also
Registrar General.
4. Prospective candidates must be
registered, or entitled to be registered as
a Medical Practitioner under the Medical
Acts of the Imperial Parliament and
must, in addition, possess a recognized
qualification in public health.
5. Free passages, including rail fares
to the port of embarkation, will be pro-
vided for the officer and also for his wife
and not more than three children under
the age of eighteen years who are un-
married and are dependent upon him,
provided that they accompany him or
join him in the Colony within 12 months
of his appointment. Similarly free re-
turn passages to the country of recurit-
ment will be provided.
6. Under General Orders vacation
leave may be granted at the rate of 48
days per annum up to a maximum of 183
days.
7 Applications with at least two testi-
monials should be submitted to the Ad-
ministrator, St. Kitts Nevis Anguilla not
later than the 25th January, 1958.

TENDERS FOR FERTILISERS FOR
AGRICULTURAL CREDIT SOCIE-
TIES FOR 1958.

Tenders are invited for 600 tons of
mixed fertilizer containing 10% Nitrogen,
5% Phosphate and 10% Potash. It is em-
phasised that the Nitrogen in the fertili-
ser must be contained in Ammonium
form and a certificate to this effect must
be produced Quotations should be given
for 100 lb. and 200 lb. bags.
Tenders are also invited for 50 tons
Sulphate of Ammonia containing not less
than 20% Nitrogen.
Tenders which should be sealed must
state the price ex beach.
Delivery of fertilizer should be not later
than 15th April, 1957.
Tenders are to be addressed to the
Chairman, Tenders Board, Treasury, and
be distinctly marked "Tenders for Fertili-
sers, Agricultural Credit Societies".
Tenders will close at 3 p.m. on Tuesday
14th January, 1958

AN ORDINANCE further to amend the Customs Duties Ordin-
ance, Cap. 184.

Enacted by the Legislature of Saint Vincent.

1. This Ordinance may be cited as the Customs Duties
(Amendment) Ordinance, 1958, and shall be read as one with
the Customs Duties Ordinance (hereinafter referred to as the
principal Ordinance) and all amendments thereto.

2. Section 14 of the principal Ordinance is hereby
amended by deleting the word "three" wherever it appears and
substituting therefore the word "six".

3. Table B of the Second Schedule to the principal
Ordinance is hereby amended-
(a) by inserting the following new item immediately after
item 7 therein:-
"7A. Articles imported by, or taken out of
bond for the use of, the Governor-General of the
West Indies; "

OBJECTS AND REASONS.
The objects of this Bill are-
(a) to exempt the Governor-General of the West Indies from the payment
of customs duties on goods imported into the Colony by him or on
his behalf;
(b) to extend the existing facilities relating to the importation into the
Colony of advertising material.
