SENIOR MEDICAL OFFICER, MEDICAL
DEPARTMENT, BRITISH GUIANA.

Applications are invited from suit-
ably qualified persons for appointment
as Senior Medical Officer, Medical De-
partment, British Guiana.
2. Appointment and Salary: The
post is pensionable with fixed salary at
the rate of $7,200 per annum; but if
desired, the appointment may be on
contract for three years in the first in-
stance. Private and Consulting Prae-
tice are not allowed.
Contract appointment would carry
gratuity calculated at the rate of 221/2%
of salary for each completed period of
three months' satisfactory resident ser-
vice payable either at six-monthly in-
tervals, during resident service, or in
a single lump sum on the termination


of the contract. In the latter event
only would leave earn gratuity.
3. Duties: To assist the Director of
Medical Services and the Medical Ad-
ministration of the Colony in all mat-
ters pertaining to the administration of
the Department, subject to the direc-
tions and instructions of the Director of
Medical Services.
4. Qualifications: (i) Degrees or
Diploma in Medicine and Surgery
registrable in the United Kingdom; and
(ii) at least three years experience
as a Medical Practitioner.
5. Age: For a pensionable ap-
pointment, candidates should not be
over 40 years of age on the 30th Novenm-
ber, 1957. This qualification does not
apply to officers already holding pen-
sionable posts in Public Service.
6. Medical Fitness: The successful
candidate, if not already holding a pen-
sionable post in the Public S rvice will
be required to pass a medical examina-
tion for admission thereto.
7. I'assagcs on First Appointment:
Free sea passages to the Colony will be
provided for the officer and, if married,
his wife and children (if any) not ex-
ceeding four persons besides himself,
children to be under 18 years, unmar-
ried, and dependent upon the officer.
This is applicable only to candidates
outside British Guiana.
8. Leave and Leave Passages: Will
be granted in accordance with General
Orders and existing Regulations appli-
cable.
9. Quarters: Quarters are not pro-
vided.
10. Gcncral Information: Appoint-
ment will be subject to the Colonial
Regulations, General Orders and other
local regulations, in force from time to
time. Unless the candidate appointed
already holds a post on the permanent
and pensionable establishment of the
Public Service, confirmation in the ap-
pointment will be subject to satisfac-
tory work and conduct during a pro-
bationary period of two years.
11. Applications stating name in
full, date and year of birth, qualifica-
tions and experience, and accom-
panied by at least two recent testimo-
nials should be addressed to the Chief
Establishment Officer, Public Build-
ings, Georgetown, to reach him not later
than 30th November, 1957. Local can-
didates already in the Public Service
should submit their application to the
Heads of their Departments not later
than the 25th November, 1957, for
transmission to the Chief Establish-
ment Officer by 30th November, 1957.

are not required of applicants already
in the Public Service, who however,
must submit their applications through

The values of the respective Grades of Arrowroot and the proportions of
such values to be advanced by the Saint Vincent Co-Operative Arrowroot Asso-
ciation have been fixed by the Arrowroot Board as under:-

Order, 1957.

(Amendment) Order in Council, 1957
Made 8th October, 1957.
At the Court at Buckingham Palace, the 8th day of October,
1957
Present,
The Queen's Most Excellent Majesty in Council
Her Majesty, by virtue and in exercise of Her powers under
the Saint Vincent and Grenada Constitution Act, 1876(a), and
of all other powers enabling Her in that behalf, is pleased, by
and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order, and it is
hereby ordered, as follows:-
1.-(1) This Order may be cited as the Saint Vincent
(Legislative Council) (Amendment) Order in Council, 1957,
and shall be construed as one with the Saint Vincent (Legisla-
tive Council) Orders in Council, 1951 to 1956 (b).
(2) The Saint Vincent (Legislative Council) Orders in
Council, 1951 to 1956, and this Order may be cited together as
the Saint Vincent (Legislative Council) Orders in Council, 1951
to 1957.
(3) This Order shall be published in the Gazette and
in such other manner as the Governor shall think fit.
2. Section 24 of the Saint Vincent (Legislative Council)
Order in Council, 1951(c), as amended by the Saint Vincent
(Legislative Council) (Amendment) Order in Council, 1954(d)
is hereby amended by the addition of the following subsection
immediately after subsection (2) :-
(3) If upon any question the votes are equally divided
and the Administrator, the Deputy President or other
Member presiding does not exercise his casting vote, the
motion shall be lost."

its general purport.)
This Order provides that where the votes are equally
divided a motion in the Legislative Council shall be lost if the
Administrator or other Member presiding does not exercise his
casting vote.
