AN ORDINANCE to amend the Public Order Ordinance, 1951.

[ 29th March, 1956. ]

Enacted by the Legislature of Saint Vincent.


1. This Ordinance may be cited as the Public Order
(Amendment) Ordinance, 1956, and shall be read as one with
the Public Order Ordinance, 1951, (hereinafter referred to as
the principal Ordinance) and all amendments thereto.

2. Before section 5 of the principal Ordinance the follow-
ing section shall be inserted:-


"Notice of
meetings etc.,
to be given.


4 A (1) Any person organising or concern-
ed in organising any public meeting or pro-
cession shall notify the Chief of Police at
least twenty-four hours before the time fixed
for such meeting or procession of his intention
to hold such meeting or procession and shall
state the time and place proposed for such
assembly and in the case of a procession,
the route proposed to be followed.
Provided that the provisions of this subsec-
tion shall not apply to funeral processions.
(2) The organiser and any person who
knowingly takes part in any meeting or
procession held in contravention of the pro.
ceding subsection shall be guilty of an
offence under this Ordinance."

3. Section 5 of the principal Oldinance shall apply to
public meetings in like manner as it applies to public proces-
sions as if the words "meeting or" or "meetings or" were inserted
before the word "procession" or the word "processions" as the
case may be wherever such word appears in the said section.
