The Sexual and Physical Abuse Resource Center
began to help women who were victims of sexual
assault and domestic violence in 1974. After four
years of helping women via hotline counseling
and safe homes for refuge from the violence in
their lives, SPARC secured a facility for use as a
shelter, and on March 30, 1978, the first victim
was admitted to the shelter.
SPARC's mission is to interrupt the battering
and end the cycle of violence In our
