SECTION II-VITAL STATISTICS OF

BRITISH HONDURAS, 1956.
(See Tables -1-12)
POPULATION.
1. The estimated population of British Honduras on the 31st December, 1956, was 82,333
consisting of 40,060 males and 42,273 females. This is arrived at by adding to the population
as ascertained at the Census taken on the 9th April, 1946, the number of births registered be-
tween that date and the end of the year under review, and deducting therefrom the total number
of deaths which occurred in the same period, and by adding the excess of immigration over
emigration during the same period. The distribution of the population throughout the districts
of British Honduras, with the density per square mile is shown in Appendix A.
2. The following table shows the increase of population during the year under review,
classified by districts in order of numerical precedence:-

Stann Creek, Orange Walk, Corozal, Cayo Districts, come next with 61, 53, 48, 46 respectively,
