A PROCLAMATION.
ALEC LOVELACE,
Administrator.
WHEREAS by section 33 of the
Crown Proceedings Ordinance, 1954
(No. 19 of 1954) it is provided that
the said Ordinance shall come into
operation on a day to be appointed by
the Governor by proclamation pub-
lished in the Gazette:
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ALEC
LOVELACE, a Member of the Most
Excellent Order of the British
Empire, Administrator of the Presi-
dency of Antigua, do by this my
proclamation declare that the said
Ordinance shall come into operation
on the 30th day of June, 1956.
AND all Her Majesty's loving sub-
jects in the Presidency of Antigua
and all others whom it may concern
are hereby required to take due notice
hereof and to give their ready
obedience accordingly.
GIVEN at the Administrator's Ofice,
Antigua, this 2nd day of March,
1956, and in the fifth year of
Her Majesty's reign.

It is notified for general informa-
tion that His Excellency the Governor,
by virtue of the powers conferred
upon him under Section 18 of the
Magistrate's Code of Procedure Act,
Cap. 61, has approved of the appoint-
ment of Mr. J. CLARKE to be
Magistrate's Clerk in the British
Virgin Islands with effect from the
1st August, 1955.

Tenders are invited for the supply
of the undermentioned items to
Government departments in Antigua
for the period 15th April to 31st
December, 1956.

All tenders must be addressed to
the Administrator of Antigua in
sealed envelopes marked 'Tender for
the Supply of Petrol and diesel oil
and lubricating oil' and delivered to
the Administrator's Office not later
than 12 o'clock on Saturday the 31st
day of March, 1956.

Government does not bind itself to
accept the lowest or any tender:-

Diesel oil
Lubricating oil.

TRAFFIC NOTICE.

The Vehicles & Road Traffic
Ordinance, 1946.


By virtue of the powers conferred
on me in Section 2 of the Vehicles
and Road Traffic Ordinance 1946
(No. 5 of 1946), I hereby fix the
period hereunder for the lighting of
Vehicles.

Until further notice, the lighting
period of vehicles shall be from
6.30 p.m. to 6 a.m.

At present a basic allowance at the
rate of $300 per annum is paid in
respect of a motor car plus a mileage
allowance of 12c. per mile.

QUARTERS: Free quarters are not
provided. Should Government quar-
ters become available at any time
rental would be charged at the rate
of 10% of salary or 5% of the assessed
value of the quarters, whichever is
less. Suitable accommodation can be
obtained at rental of about 15% of
officer's salary.

PASSAGES: Free passages to Dom-
inica will be provided on first
appointment for the officer, his wife
and children, not exceeding five per-
sons in all. Children to be under 18
years of age, unmarried and depen-
dant on the officer.

DUTIES: The officer will be
responsible for the Administration of
the Agricultural Department and for
the planning and execution of the
as well as the general supervision of
agricultural development programme
all aspects of the Department's work.

He will be required to perform the
statutory functions now vested in the
Agricultural Superintendent, inclu-
ding membership of the Board of
Management of the Banana Associa-
tion and of the Leaf Spot Control
Board.

LEAVE: At the end of his term of
service the officer will be eligible for

for each completed period of 3 months
service.

St. Vincent Grammar School, particu-

APPOINTMENT: The post is pen-
sionable and the appointment carries
with it the liability of transfer to any
post of equivalent status within the
Windward Islands. The officer will
be subject to the Colonial Regulations
and local General Orders for the time
being in force insofar as they are
applicable.

SALARY: The salary of the post
is at the rate of $3,840 (800) per
annum in the scale $3,840 x 120-
$4,560 (800x25-950) per annum.

QUARTERS: Quarters are not pro-
vided.

PASSAGES: Free first class pas-
sages to St. Vincent will be provided
for the officer, his wife and children,
not exceeding five persons in all;
children should be under 18 years of
age, unmarried, and dependent on the
officer.

LEAVE AND LEAVE PASSAGES:
Vacation leave on full salary will be
granted at the rate of 1i months for
each completed period of 12 months

Leave passages will be provided in
accordance with local regulations.

MEDICAL ATTENTION: Free medi-
cal attention and medicines are not
provided.

TAXATION: All Government offi-
cers are liable to taxation imposed by
local legislation.

STATUTORY RULES AND ORDERS.

1956, No. 3.




The Road Tax Order, 1956, dated 10th February, 1956,
made by the Governor in Council under section 6 of the
Road Tax Ordinance, 1955, (No. 12/1955).




1. Short Title. 'This Order may be cited as the Road Tax
Order, 1956.

2. Interpretation. In this Order-

district has the same meaning as in the Ordinance;

"District A ", District B ", District C ", District
D", District E ", "District F", District G" and
District H mean respectively District A, District B,
District C, District D, District E, District F, District G
and District H as defined in the First Schedule;

Road Warden" means a person or body of persons appointed
by the Governor under section 7 of the Ordinance to be
Road Warden in and for a district;
"the First Schedule" means the First Schedule to the
Ordinance;
"the Ordinance" means the Road Tax Ordinance, 1955 (No.
12/1955).

3. Amount of Tax. (1) The amount payable by any person
who is by section 5 of the Ordinance liable to pay any sum for the
upkeep of public roads of the Presidlency shall be such sum as may be
appropriate to the district in which lie resides as specified in sub-para-
Araph (2) of this p.Iaigriap, and shall be paid either to the Road
Warden of the said district or into the Treasury.










(2) The sum payable in respect of each district shall be as
