PRESIDENCY OF ST. CHRIS-
TOPHER NEVIS AND AN-
GUILLA.

Land Acquisition Act, 1944.
Declaration Required by Section 3.

It is hereby declared that the
Governor in Council with the approval
of the Legislative Council of Saint
Christopher Nevis and Anguilla, con-
siders that the lands described in the
schedule hereto should be acquired
for public purposes, namely, the
extension of a recreation ground and
providing entrance to other Govern-
ment Lands.

SCHEDULE.
All that lot of land situate to the
north-west corner of Warner Park in
the parish of St. George in the above
Presidency formerly used as a recrea-
ation ground for the pupils of Mrs.
G. P. BooN's school containing ap-
proximately one acre and abutted and
bounded on the north by lands of the
St. Kitts Lawn Tennis Club and lands
of Douglas Estate, on the south by
Warner Park and measuring on that
side approximately 269-8 feet, on the
east by Warner Park and measuring
on that side approximately 190"2 feet,
and on the west by Victoria Road and
measuring on that side approximately
232 feet.

SCHOLARSHIPS.


It is bereby notified for general in-
formation that an examination for a
number of Government Scholarships
to the Antigua Grammar School and
to the Antigua Girls' High School
will be held at the St. John's Boys'
Schoolroom on Wednesday 5th Sep-
tember, 1951, at 8.45 a.m.

Qualification of Candidates.
2. Candidates shall be qualified to
take the examination who:-
(a) will be over 9 but less than
13 years of age on the 31st Decem-
ber, 1951;

(b) have attended a school in the
Colony for a period of three years
immediately preceding the 31st
December, 1951, the last twelve
months being at a school in Anti-
gua;
(c) are in need of financial assis-
tance to enter upon and complete a
secondary school course;
(d) are British subjects.

Applications.
3. Applications must be made to
the Inspector of Schools not later
than Friday, 17th August, 1951.
Applications must be accompanied
by a birth or baptismal certificate, a
medical certificate of good health,
certificate from Head Teachers of


Schools certifying regular attendance
for the three previous years and good
behaviour of the candidate, and evi-
dence of the need of financial assist-
ance to parents or guardians to pay
for secondary education.

Application forms canl be obtained
from the Inspector of Schools.

4. (a) Arithmetic, including numer-
ation and notation, length, time,
weight (English Units), Money
(English and American units), and
the application of the four rules to
them, with simple, vulgar and deci-
mal fractions.

(b) (i) English Test of candidates
comprehension of a short story
read by or to them.

(ii) Simple exercises in
English Grammar.
(c) Writing from dictation.
(d) West Indian History and
Geography.
