It is announced by the Secretary of
State for the Colonies that the Right
Honourable The Earl BALDWIN OF
BEWDLEY has for health and personal
reasons tendered to His Majesty his
resignation from the appointment of
Governor and Commander in Chief
of the Leeward Islands. His Majesty
has been graciously pleased to accept
Lord BALDWIN'S resignation. The
Governor will be leaving the Colony
early in June.
His Majesty has been pleased to
approve the appointment of Mr. K. W.
ELACKBURNE, C.M.G., O.B.E., Direc-
tor of Information Service, Colonial
Office, as Governor and Commander
in Chief, Leeward Islands, in succes-
sion to Lord BALDWIN.
Mr. BLACKBURNE was born in 1907.
He was appointed to the Colonial
Service in 1930 as Administrative
Officer, Nigeria; transferred to Pales-
tine as Assistant District Commis-
sioner in 1935 and was attached to
the Colonial Office from 1938 to 1941
-when he was appointed Colonial
Secretary, Gambia. He was seconded
as Administrative Secretary to the
Comptroller for Development and
Welfare in the West Indies in 1943
and was appointed to his present
post in 1947.
