THE owner, captain, or any person in
charge of any vessel or ship arriving in
Carlisle Bay from a port in another terri-
tory who desires that his ship shall enter
the Bridgetown careenage is hereby
warned that as from 1st January, 1954, no
such vessel or ship will be permitted to
enter the said careenage if there is on
board such ship any animal in respect of
which an import permit has not been
obtained from the Director of Agri-

BARBADOS
No animal may be imported into the
Island unless a permit has been obtained
from the Director of Agriculture to
import such animal. Any person desiring
to import an animal should accordingly
apply to the Director of Agriculture for
an import permit before initiating import
arrangements N.I import permit is valid
unless signed by the Director of Agricul-
ture or the Veterinery Officer. The con-
ditions under which an animal may be
imported will be stated on the import
permit issued in Iespect of such animal
and permission to land the animal will not
be granted if the importer has failed to
comply with the specified conditions.

EXCHANGE CONTROL TRANSFER.
ABLE ACCOUNTS TECHNICAL
DETAILS
As from Monday March 22, 1954, all
non residential sterling accounts ,other
than American, Canadian, Turkish, Iran-
ian, Hungarian or Block Accounts) will
be designated Transferable Accounts. It


will no longer be necessary to designate
such accounts by reference to Country
of residence of account holder.
2. The existing limitations on Trans-
ferabl Accounts, relating to purposes for
which they may at present be used and
to number of such accounts are removed.
Transferable accounts may now be held
by any resident of the Transferable
Account area and balances thereon may
be transfer ed freely for any purpose
(capital or current) within that area and
of course to scheduled territories.
3 Sterling on American or Canadian
accounts will continue to be freely trans-
ferable to a transferable account.
4. The approved methods of payment
for United Kingdom exports will be:-
(a) Exports to American Accounts
Area and Canadian as at pre-
sent
(b) For exports to Transferable
Accounts area.
(i) Starling from any non resi-
dent account including Ame-
rican-Car.adian sterling but

THE Federal German Government have
promulgated a law supple nentiin lgisla-
tion now in force in the Federal Republic
for Compensation to Victims of National
Socialist Pers-cution (published in the
" Bundesgesetzblatt I, No. 62 of Sep-
tember 21st, 1953) Its provisions apply
to the Western Sectors of Berlin
2. Compensation und r this law may
be claimed by any person who. during the
period January 30th, 1933 t0 May 8th.
1945, was persecuted because of his anti-
Nazi persuasion or for reasons of his race,
faith or philosophy of life an I wh) ani
satisfy the residential' qualifications
which are contained in Article 8. in reo"

(a) damage to Life, Body, Health


and Liberty

(c) damage to Professional or Econo-
mic Advancement
3. The law also provides for compensa-
tion in certain circumstances to the
following classes who cannot comply with
the residence qualifications :


(a) Expellees as defined by the Law
on Expellees of May 19th. 1953;
(b) Statelss Persons and Political
Refugees, who are also expellees
as defined above
(c) Persecuteeson groundsof nation.

October, 1st, 1953
4. In general claims may also be made
by the heir of a deceased victim. Cornm
pensation Claims Offices are to be set up
under the Laendar Governments and will
be competent for the registration of
claims. Claims must be submitted in the
case of residents of the Federal Republic
by October 1st. 1954, and persons resident
outside the Federal Republic by October
1st, 1955.
5 Details regarding the presentation
of claims are contained in the Fourth
Section of the Law, copies of which may
be obtained from the Bundesanzeiger-
Verlags-GmbH, Koln/Khein, 1 (Postfach).


Persons who after studying the law consi-
der that they may be eligible for compen-
sation and wish for further advice s wouldd
consult a lawyer practising in German
law or one of the various organizations
and institutions specializing in this
field regarding their position and the pro-
c dure for submission of claims, as De-
pa tments of Her Majesty's (;ov, rnment
cannot undertake to advise claimants on
these matters. 1he Diplomatic Miesion

REFUND OF DUTY ON BARBED WIRE
THE Governor-in-Council has approved
the refund of Import Luty cn barbed
wire used in the construction of paddocks
or for any other purpose directly connect-
ed with the livestock industry.
Applications for such refunds should be
addressed to the Financial Secretary and
supported by the certificate of the Agri-
cultural Superintendent showing the
quantity of wire used and the purpose to
which it has been put.
Refunds in respect of wire used for
purposes of maintenance will be limited to
10% annually of the total quantity of wire
used in the original construction.
