BRITISH WEST INDIAN FEDERATION LONDON CONFERENCE
IT was announced on November 14th that a conference on West Indian
Federation would be held in London in March or April. It has now been
arranged that the conference shall open on Monday April 13th 1953.
In announcement on November 14th it was stated that the Governments
of Jamaica, Trinidad the Windward Islands and Leeward Islands (with the
exception of the Virgin Islands) had been invited to send delegates to the
conference. An invitation to participate in the conference had also been
sent to the Government of Barbados where the Legislative Council and
House of Assembly are still considering Federation proposals put forward in
the report of Standing Closer Association Committee. The Legislature of
British Guiana has rejected the proposal for Federation of the British West
Indies and the Legislature of British Honduras has deferred indefinitely
any further consideration of the proposal.
