INTRODUCTION

A new form has been adopted for the presentation of 1951 Import and Export
Statistics. Formerly the countries of Origin and destination were listed horizontally
in the captions of the tables. They were consequently limited to the following:

United Kingdom

British North America

Barbados

Leeward Islands

Other British Possessions

Other Foreign Countries.

The items Other British Possessions and Other Foreign Countries"
have increased in importance over the last few years. In 1950, when imports amount-
ed to $4,205,854 and exports to $2,183,732, they accounted for 10.37% and 4.83%
respectively in the case of imports, and 13.52% and 29.59% respectively in the
case of exports. The following table illustrates their importance during 1951:-

Consequently it has been thought better to break them up into their constituents
and to list all countries under the commodities pertaining to them.

Another change is the commodity grouping. A new tariff law and the local
need for more detailed analysis of imports urged the adoption of the Standard Inter-
national Trade Classification. There is no very radical change as is shown in the
comparison below:-
