Parish of St, Joseph in the Colony of Dominica.
ELIZABETH II. By the Grace of God of Great Britain, Ireland, and the British
Dominions beyond the Seas Queen, Defender of the Faith.
To all persons claiming an interest in the lands and tenements hereinafter described-
WHEREAS it has been made to appear to Us that the Stonehil! Estate situate
in the Parish of St. Joseph in the Island of Dominica, containing 200 acres 1 rood is
unoccupied since 1914, and there is no person having title thereto, whereby the
said parcel of land ought to be vested in Us, that proceedings will be taken to
have the said parcel of land vested in Us at a sitting of the Supreme Court to be
holden at Roseau in the Colony of Dominica in the month of Apr:l, 1953.
All persons claiming an interest in such land, shall within one week from the
date of the last publication of this summons in the Gazette (such summons shall be
published during a period of six months) file an appearance, either in person, or by
Solicitor in the office of the Registrar, and shall, within one month from the date of
such appearance, lodge in the said office a written claim containing a statement
of the reasons on which the same is founded: and you are hereby further warned
that if you fail to appear at the said Court to be holden as aforesaid the said pro-
ceedings will be heard and taken with ut you.

hereunto affixed, at Roseau, this 12th day of July, 1952.

PRESS RELEASE NO. 55/52
TERRITORIES WARNED OF FOWL
DISEASE OUTBREAK

FORT-OF-SPAIN, August 15: Warning
of the outbreak here of a fowl infection
known as Newscastle Disease has been
cabled to West Indian territories by the
Carribbean Commission, it was announced
today by Mr. E. F. H. de VRIENDT, the
Commission's Secretary General.
The outbreak was immediately reported
to the Central Secretariat by local officials
as part of the regular Animal Disease
Reporting Service maintained by the Com-
mission. Each month reports from the
various territories are tabulated and
distributed in chart form. Emergencies,
as in the present instance, are handled by
cable,
Coincidentally, the Agricultural Experi-
ment Station of the University of Puerto
Rico recently gave warning that a new
fowl disease which attacks the respiratory
system has appeared in the United States,
principally along the Eastern seaboard.
Puerto Rican poultry raisers have been
asked to report to the Station immediately
if they observe symptoms of the disease in
their flocks. The Commission advised
responsible territorial officials of this
development,

cil held this day, there were present:-

dated 6th December, 1951 from the Se-

It was resolved that $24 00 allocated
for Poor Children's Dinner be given to
the Committee for both purposes.
Boxing Matuh at W4indsor, Pork:--A letter
dated 19th December, 1951 from Mr.
George Gabriel was read applying for the
use of Windsor Park for the purpose of
staging a boxing match on Sunday the
30th December. 1951 between the hours
of 3 p m. and 6 p.m.
It was resolved that the grounds be
given free, but that Mr. Gabriel must
make arrangements with the Dominica
Turf Club for the use of the Stand.
Leave: A letter dated 17th December,
1951 from Mr F M. Dorival, l'oreman
Water Works, applying for fourteen days
vacation leave as from the 20th instant
was read.
It was resolved that the application be
granted.

1951 from the EJacation Officer was read
forwarding the pass list of pupils who
wrote the Scholarship Examination for
free entrance to secondary schools in Ro-
seau and recommending Herbert Charles
of the Roseau M.xed School and Helen
Severin of the Convent Primary School
for the Scholarships.
It was resolved that the recommenda-
tions be approved.

James, Solicitor for Miss Christianie
Burke, Attorney for the estate of G.J.
Christian. acknowledging the receipt of
the Council's letter of the 15th instant
and informing the Council that Miss
Burke, was unable to accept the offer of
the Roseau Town Council of the sum of
One thousand five hundred pounds
(1,500) for the hereditaments known as
"the Pound "
He also mentioned that Miss Burke
wished to inform the Council that she
would need sometime, about a month or
so to assess the value of the Pound from
the point of view of Mrs Gordon and
herself She did not think an offer less
than Five thousand pounds (5000) very
reasonable in any event.
The matter was discussed and the Chair.
man informed Mr. James that he would
like him to understand that the Council
could not consider the amount of 5,000
for the Pound lands, that would be buy-
ing land at the Pound at three shillings
and sixpence per square foot, which
amount is entirely excessive.
It was decided that the Council would
await Miss Burke's further decision in a
month's time, and that Mr. James be in-
formed in writing accordingly.
Mr, James again gave a guarantee that
no sale would take place until the matter
was settled.

December, 1951 from His Honour the Ad-
ministrator relative to a Carnival band
which paraded in Roseau on Christmas
day 1950 was read.
It was resolved that His Honour be re-
plied to stating that the practice of the
Roseau Town Council has never been to
grant permission to any street meetings
of the kind on Christmas Day, but will
endeavour to avoid any recurrence of
this sort, and also a copy of His Honour
the Administrator's letter and reply be
sent to the Superintendent of Police for
future guidance.

Town Council held this day, there were

Minutes:-Minutes of Meetings of the
Roseau Town Council held on the 24th
July, 6th September, 7th September, 25th
September, 26th September and 17th Octo-
ber, 1951 which had been previously for-
warded to members, were amended and
confirmed.
Vote for Expenditure:-Accounts and
Pay Lists passed by the Finance Commit-
tee for payment amounting to $4511.21
were laid on the table.
On the motion of Mr. Grell, seconded
by Mr. Edwards, it was resolved that the
expenniture of the sum of $4511.21 for
the services of the Council during the
month of November, be sanctioned.
Statement of the 2own fund:- The
Statement of the Town Fund for the
month of November was read showing a
credit balance of $4721.41 on the 30th
November, 1951.
Reports:-The Town Clerk's and Chief
Sanitary Inspector's Reports for the
month of November, which had been pre-
viously forwarded to members, were laid
on the table.
On the suggestion of Mr. Sweeting, it
was decided that, in the Chief Sanitary
Inspector's Report; the names of the own-
ers of the Bakeries, Factories, Shops &c
inspected during the month should be
mentioned.
The Meat Inspector's Report for the
month of November, was read.
Terminal Reports of the Scholarship
Holders for the Michaelmas Term at the
Convent High School and Wesley High
School were read.
Drain in Bow Lane:-Estimates from
the Engineer Assistant, Medical Depart-
ment for increasing the depth of the cen-
tre drain in Bow Lane were read.
It was decided that the matter be
brought up when the Estimates of Reven-
ue and Expenditure for 1952 was being
considered.
Dangerous Trees.
A letter dated the IOth December, 1951,
from Mrs. AliceJoseph was read referring
to a Notice requesting her to out down

the Kennip tree on her premises in Cross
Street and asking to be allowed to trim
all overhanging branches as in fact is
always done whenever necessary.
It was resolved that the Council was
unable to reverse its decision.
Claim.
A letter dated 18th December, 1951
Josephine Balson was read complaining
that her lot in Victoria Street was wrong-
fully sold for alleged arrears of Land Tax.
A report by the Town Clerk in that
connection was also read.
It was decided that Mr. Dupigny should
interview Mrs. Balsom on 27th December,
1951 at 11 a.m. at the office on thesubject-
The Council rose.
