the 5th February, 1957, and read a first time
the same day.

OBJECTS AND REASONS

Th- Bill seeks to amend the Customs Tariff Act,
1921, so as to grant exemption from Customs duty in
respect of the following matters:-
(a) used motor cars of officers transferred from
other Governments to the Federal Organisa-
tion;
(b) certain appliances used in aid of permanent
bodily disablement;
(c) articles imported by the Natural Gas
Corporation.
2. By virtue of clause 3 the provisions of the Bill
granting exemption from Customs duty on used motor
cars of officers transferred from other Governments to
the Federal Organisation are to have retroactive effect
to the 1st October, 1956, the date on which the Pre-
Federal Organisation of the British Caribbean Federa-
tion was established.

BARBADOS.
A Bill intituled
An Act to amend the Customs Tariff Act, 1921.
BE it enacted by the Governor, Council and Assembly
of this Island and by the authority of the same as
follows:-
1. This Act may be cited as the Customs Tariff Short title.
(Amendment) (No. 2) Act, 1957, and shall be read as
one with the Customs Tariff Act, 19,21, as amended,
hereinafter referred to as the principal Act.
2. The Second Schedule to the principal Act is Amendment te
hereby amended in the following respects:- Second Sehedul
to Act 1921-a
(1) by inserting immediately after the para-
graph beginning with the words:-
"Used motor cars of public officers on
transfer to the service of the Crown
in this Island"
the following new paragraph:-
"Used motor cars of public officers
appointed to any Federal Organisation
of the Federation of the West Indies in
this Island, and who were required in
the territory from which they were
transferred to keep the said motor cars
for the performance of their official
duties, upon such proof being given
to the satisfaction of the Comptroller
of Customs.";
(2) by inserting immediately after tbh para-
graph beginning with the words:-
"All articles, except intoxicating liquor
and articles prohibited to be imported
by any Act of this Island"
the following new paragraph:-
"All articles imported by or on behalf
of the Natural Gas Corporation to be
used exclusively for the purposes and
the objects of the said Corporation and
not for sale, on the certificate to that
effect by the Director of the said
Corporation.'';
(3) by inserting immediately after the para-
graph beginning with the words:-
"Articles manufactured from Sea
Island Cotton"
the following new paragraph:-
"Artificial limbs, hearing aids, invalid
chairs and trusses, including identi-
fiable spare parts.".

1908, so as to provide that leptospirosis shall be included
amongst the notifiablee diseases."

1. This Act may be cited as the Public Health
(Amendment) Act, 1957.
2. Section twenty-three of the Public Health Act,
1908, is hereby amended by inserting in subsection (1)
thereof immediately after the word "tuberculosis"
appearing in line four thereof the word:-
"leptospirosis".
