Senhor Flavio Mendes de Oliveira Castre as Consul of Brazil at
Port of Spain, Trinidad, with jurisdiction including the Bahamas.
The Exequatur empowering Senhor Castro to act in his consular
capacity received Her Majesty's signature on the 15th December,
1960.

REAL PROPERTY TAX
Notice is hereby given that Real Property Tax in respect of
the quarter ending 31st March, 1961 became due on the 2nd
January, 1961.
Property owners, who are still in arrears in respect of the
year ended 31st December, 1960, are reminded of the provisions
of Section 14(a) of The Real Property Tax Act Ch. 307 RL., under
which legal action is required to be taken by the Treasurer in
respect of any amount in arrear for more than thirty (30) days.
It is also pointed out that Authority is given to the Court by
Section 17 of this Act to impose on persons adjudged to pay any
taxes payable under the Act a penalty of 10% of the taxes due in
addition to such taxes and the costs of the suit.

REGULATIONS
Made Under
THE ROAD TRAFFIC ACT 1958
In exercise of the powers conferred upon them by the Road
Traffic Act, the Road Traffic Authority with the approval of the
Governor in Council hereby make the following Regulations:
1. These Regulations may be cited as the Motor Vehicle
Amendment Regulations 1960, and shall be read as one with the
Motor Vehicle Rules 1959.
2. The Motor Vehicle Rules 1959 are hereby amended as
follows:
(a) by deleting the short title thereof and substituting
therefore the following:
"These Regulations may be cited as the Motor
Vehicle and Speed Limit Regulations, 1959 to 1960."

(b) by deleting the words "rule" and "Rules" wherever
they appear therein and substituting therefore the
word "regulation" or "Regulations" respectively
as the case may be;
(c) by deleting sub-paragraphs (a) and (f) of paragraph
(1) of regulation 6 thereof and substituting therefore
respectively the following:
"(a) every passenger vehicle, the owner thereof
shall cause to be affixed thereto two identifica-
tion plates on which is the registered number
of the vehicle. The identification plates shall
be.of metal, of uniform shape and size, painted
black, with the registered number of the








vehicle designated in figures painted thereon
in white, such figures to be three and one half
inches in length and every part thereof five-
eights of an inch broad and shall be affixed to
such vehicle by the owner in an upright posi-
tion, one in front of the vehicle and one in the
rear, so as to be clearly distinguished;
(f) a public service vehicle, the Controller shall
supply the owner thereof with two identifica-
tion plates which shall be of metal of uniform
shape and size, with the registered number of
the vehicle in figures and in the case of a taxi-
cab the word "Taxi-cab", in the case of an
omnibus, the word "Bus", in the case of a tour
car the words "Tour Car", in the case of a
self-drive vehicle, the letters "S.D." and in the
case of a livery vehicle, the word "Livery"
painted thereon, and which shall be affixed by
the owner in an upright position one in front
of the vehicle and one in the rear so as to be
easily distinguished."
(d) by deleting paragraph (2) of regulation 9 thereof
and renumbering paragraph (1) as regulation 9;
(e) by deleting regulation 35 thereof and renumbering
regulations 36, 37, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45 and
46 as regulations 35, 36, 37, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42, 43,
44 and 45 respectively;
(f) by inserting before regulation 47 thereof the follow-
ing regulations as 46 and (46A):
"Penalty
46. Whoever commits an offence against any of
the foregoing regulations shall on summary convic-
tion be liable to a fine not exceeding twenty pounds.
Speed Limit Regulations
(46A.) In accordance with the provisions of section
42 of the Act and save as hereinafter specified the
seed limits for motor vehicles throughout the
Colony shall be THIRTY MILES PER HOUR for
motor vehicles other than omnibuses having a seat-
ing capacity for more than twenty passengers or
motor truck for which the speed limit shall be
TWENTY MILES PER HOUR.
(1) For a motor vehicle, other than an omnibus
having seating capacity for more than twenty
passengers 'or a motor truck:-
(a) In New Providence from the intersection
of the Farrington Road and the Road run-
ning westwardly from Oakes Field along








Farrington Road, the Interfield Road and
the Windsor Field Road to its intersection
with the Western Road near Old Fort,
FORTY-FIVE MILES PER HOUR.
(b) In New Providence from the intersection
of the Coral Harbour Road with the Wind-
sor Field Road along the Coral Harbour
Road to Adelaide Road, FORTY-FIVE
MILES PER HOUR.

(2) For an omnibus having seating capacity for
more than twenty passengers or a motor truck:-
(a) In New Providence from the intersection
of the Farrington Road and the Road run-
ning westwardly from Oakes Field along
Farrington Road, the Interfield Road and
the Windsor Field Road to its intersection
with the Western Road near Old Fort,
THIRTY MILES PER HOUR.
(b) In New Providence from the intersection
of the Coral Harbour Road with the Wind-
sor Field Road along the Coral Harbour
Road to Adelaide Road, THIRTY MILES
PER HOUR.

(3) For all motor vehicles:-

(a) On Shirley Street in New Providence,
TWENTY MILES PER HOUR.
(b) In New Providence, within the limits
bounded on the East from the Harbour to
Shirley Street and from Shirley Street to
Wulff Road by Mackey Street; on the
South by Wulff Road and Poinciana
Avenue, on the West by Nassau Street; on
North by the Harbour of Nassau;
TWENTY MILES PER HOUR.
(c) In New Providence within areas marked
out as "School Zones" by the Controller
and authorized by the Authority; FIF-
TEEN MILES PER HOUR.

(4) The provisions imposing a speed limit on motor
vehicles shall not apply to any vehicle on an
occasion when it is being used for fire brigade,
ambulance or police purposes if the observance
of these provisions would be likely to hinder
the use of the vehicles for the purposes to
which it is being used on that occasion."
