RECRUITS WANTED
THE BAHAMAS PRISON SERVICE
Applications are invited for those who wish to enlist as Over-
seers in the Bahamas Prison Service.
Pay and conditions of service are attractive with the security
of a pension after 21 years service.
Minimum requirements are:
British subject by birth
21 years of age
Education-not less than Grade VI standard
Height 5' 9" in bare feet
Chest not less than 36" (expanded)
PAY
General Duty Overseers 650 x 20 790 p.a. plus 2%%
of salary as a temporary allowance.
Normal working hours approximately 100 hours per fort-
night.
Overseers shall be appointed for 3 years and may re-engage
for further successive periods of 3 years. During the first 6
months, an Overseer shall be on probation.
Free uniform and medical attention are provided, and there
is an annual vacation leave of 21-28 days, according to grade, on
full pay. There are free quarters for a limited number of men
Housing allowance for those who do not enjoy free quarters, is
granted. at the following rates:
General Duty Overseers unmarried 24 p.a.
married 48 p.a.
Applicants shall be required to sit for an educational examina-
tion, both written and oral, and be passed as physically fit by the
Prison Medical Officer.

MEDICAL DEPARTMENT
Records Clerk for Princess Margaret Hospital; Salary in the
Scale 13 (720 x 50 970 x 70 1390) according to qualifications
and experience.
The duties are to be responsible for the Records Section and,
after installing a new system of Patients' records, to supervise
the work to insure that all records are available as required by
the Medical Officers. Previous experience in supervisory capacity
of a departmental filing and records system is essential.

Under the Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan
the Government of Malta is offering one scholarship tenable at
the Royal University of Malta.

Scholarships are for two years and are for post graduate
studies or research in Medicine and Surgery or for under-graduate
studies in Arts, Science, Medicine and Surgery and Dental Sur-
gery, Engineering and Architecture, Laws of Theology.
The scholarship is open to men and women under the age
of 35, but in the case of graduates in Medicine preference will
be given those between 22 and 28 and between 17 and 25 in the
case of under-graduates.
Further informtaion may be obtained, from the undersigned
with whom a personal interview should be arranged by telephone
(2878). No enquiries by post, except from Out Islands, will be
considered. Enquiries must be received before Tuesday, 31st
January, 1961.

One (1) Cook-Storekeeper (Female) Commencing salary
395 p.a. in salary scale 395/25 540 plus 2%% Temporary
Allowance.
One (1) Handyman and Gardener-Commencing salary 395
p.a. in salary scale 395 x 25 540 plus 2V2% Temporary Allow-
ance.
CUSTOMS DEPARTMENT
Two (2) Customs Officers (Grade III) to be stationed in the
Out Islands. The minimum education or standard required is the
Bahamas School Leaving Certificate. Salary in the range of 450-
950.
One (1) Clerk (Male) Salary in the range of 450-970.
(365 x 25 440 if under 20 years of age).
One (1) Customs Guard to be stationed at Freeport, Grand
Bahama. Salary in the range of 450 x 40 650.

corner of Bay Street and Victoria Avenue.

REGULATIONS
Made Under
THE ROAD TRAFFIC ACT 1958
In exercise of the powers conferred upon them by the Road
Traffic Act 1958 the Road Traffic Authority with the approval of
the Governor in Council hereby make the following Regulations:
1. These Regulations may be cited as the Road Traffic
Amendment Regulations 1961 and shall be read as one with the

Road Traffic Regulations 1959 as amended from time to time
(hereinafter referred to as the principal Regulations).
2. The principal Regulations, are hereby amended:-
following paragraph:
(a) by adding to Regulation 7 headed "SIGNALS" the
following paragraph:
(3) If the construction of any vehicle is such that
when empty or loaded hand signals given by
the driver are not visible by the drivers of fol-
lowing vehicles, mechanical indicators visible
from the rear must be fitted."; and
(b) by adding to Regulation 17 headed "THINGS A
PERSON IN CHARGE OF A VEHICLE SHALL NOT DO" the
following subparagraph:
"h. carry or permit to be carried any load which is not
securely fastened or which is likely to be a danger
to other road users."

RULES
Made Under
THE TELECOMMUNICATIONS ACT
(Chapter 13)
In exercise of the powers conferred upon the Governor in
Council by section 29(2) of the Telecommunications Act the fol-
lowing Rules are hereby made:

1. These Rules may be cited as the Telecommunications
(Licence Fees and Mobile Stations) Amendment Rules 1961 and
shall be read as one with the Telecommunications (Licence Fees
and Mobile Stations) Rules 1948 (hereinafter referred to as the
principal Rules).









2. The principal Rules are hereby amended by adding after
clause 15 of Form A in the Schedule thereto the following proviso:
"Provided in the case of complete unavailability of
such operator as aforesaid in the course of a sea passage,
a flight or a journey, the master of the vessel or the per-
son responsible for the station may authorise, solely as
a temporary measure, an operator holding a certificate
issued by the government of another country which is a
member of the International Telecommunication Union
to perform the radiocommunication service."
