GOVERNMENT NOTICE NO. 287
It is notified for general information that Her Majesty The
Queen has, on 22nd December 1959, amended the Royal Instruc-
tions of date 8th September 1909.
The date of coming into effect of the amendments is the
date of signature i.e. 22nd December 1959.
The effect of these amendments is:-
(i) To provide that future appointments to Legislative
Council shall normally be for ten years, with the
possibility of a second term of five years and, in
special circumstances, a third term of five years or
(in each case) a shorter period if specified at the
time of appointment.
(ii) To increase the number of seats on Legislative
Council by two to provide that the Attorney Gen-
eral and the Receiver General and Treasurer
should normally be appointed to Legislative Coun-

cil, the appointments to be by name and not by of-
fice.
(iii) To provide that holders of provisional appoint-
ments to Legislative Council or to Executive Coun-
cil should be additional to the prescribed maximum
number of seats.
It is the intention that the existing members of Legislative
Council shall continue to hold their appointments for life. Pro-
vision is however also made whereby the Attorney General and
Receiver General and Treasurer, although appointed by name,
should vacate their seats when they demit office.

Telecommunications Department
Applications are invited for the post of Exchange Technician
(Male) in the Telecommunications Department.
The salary will be in the range 450 850.
Applicant should be over 35 years of age but not over 50.
The post calls for maturity, tact but not necessarily for tech-
nical ability. The duties will be to keep records and to assist
in answering the Complaints Circuit during periods of heavy
traffic.

OLD AGE PENSIONERS
Old Age Pensioners residing in the vicinity of Sandilands are
advised that their pensions for the month of December, 1959,
will be paid at the Jungle Club, Fox Hill, on Thursday the 31st
December, 1959, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
2. Other Old Age Pensioners are advised that pension for
the month of December, 1959 will be paid at the British Legion
Hall on Blue Hill Road on Monday the 28th December, Tuesday
the 29th December, and Wednesday the 30th December, 1959.
3. Pensioners whose surnames begin with the letters A G
should attend on Monday, those whose surnames begin with the
letters H M on Tuesday and those whose surnames begin with
the letters N Z on Wednesday.
4. Old Age Pensions will not be paid at the Treasury on
Saturday the 2nd January, 1960.

THE PENAL CODE
(Ch. 69)
In exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section
233(2) of the Penal Code the Governor in Council hereby makes
the following Rules:
1. These Rules may be cited as the Street Traffic (North
Bimini) Rules, 1959.

2. For the purposes of these Rules:-
"motor truck" means a motor vehicle which is so con-
structed as to show that its primary purpose is the con-
veyance of goods;
"passenger car" means a motor vehicle which is adapted
and designed for the primary purpose of carrying pass-
engers;
"public highway" includes a roadway to which the pub-
lic are granted access;
" ton capacity" means the payload allowance or maxi-
mum load which a motor truck of the Yz ton series is
designed and constructed to carry.
3. Notwithstanding the provisions of the Street Traffic Reg-
ulations, 1950, not more than 30 motor vehicles shall be permitted
upon or over any public highway in the Island of North Bimini:
Provided that the weight of any passenger car shall not ex-
ceed 2,300 lbs. and the size of any motor truck, excepting one
motor truck for the collection of garbage, shall not exceed a H
ton capacity.
4. No person driving a motor vehicle on a public highway
in the Island of North Bimini shall cause his vehicle to travel at
a rate of speed exceeding fifteen miles per hour:
Provided that this rule shall not apply to the driver of a fire
engine on his way to a fire call.
4. The Street Traffic (North Bimini) Rules, 1957 are here-
by revoked.

THE COLONIAL AIR NAVIGATION ORDER 1955
In exercise of the powers vested in him by Article 55(1) of
the Colonial Air Navigation Order, 1955, the Governor hereby
order as follows:
1. This Order may be cited as the Air Navigation (Customs
Airports) Amendment (No. 5) Order, 1959.








2. The Schedule to the Air Navigation (Customs Airports)
Order, 1956 is hereby amended as follows:
(a) by adding thereto the words "Snake Cay: Seaplane";
and
(b) by deleting therefrom the words "Hope Town, Abaco:
Seaplane" and substituting therefore the words "Marsh
Harbour, Abaco: Seaplane".
3. This Order shall be deemed to have come into operation
on the 21st day of December, 1959.

In exercise of the powers conferred upon the Governor in
Council the following Order is hereby made:
1. This Order may be cited as The Ports of Entry (Amend-
ment) (No. 4) Order, 1959.
2. The Schedule to the Ports of Entry (Amendment) Order,
1952 is hereby amended as follows:
(a) by deleting therefrom the words "Riding Point, Grand
Bahama" and substituting therefore the words "Snake
Cay, Grand Bahama"; and
(b) by deleting therefrom the words "Hope Town, Abaco"
and substituting therefore the words "Marsh Harbour,
Abaco".
3. This Order shall be deemed to have come into operation
on the 21st day of December, 1959.
