PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS by certain Letters Patent under the Great Seal
of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland bearing
date at Westminster the 8th day of September in the ninth year
of the reign of His Majesty King Edward the Seventh and in the
year of Our Lord One Thousand Nine Hundred and Nine, His
said Majesty did constitute the Office of Governor and Com-
mander-in-Chief in and over these Islands and by such Letters
Patent did declare that whenever the Office of Governor is va-

cant or if the Governor becomes incapable or is absent from the
said Islands, or is from any cause prevented from acting in the
duties of his Office, the Lieutenant-Governor of the said Islands
or if there be no such Officer or if such Officer be absent or
unable to Act, then such person or persons as may be appointed
under the Royal Sign Manual and Signet and in case there shall
be no person or persons within the said Islands so appointed,
then the Senior Member of the Executive Council who shall be
resident within the said Islands and capable of discharging the
duties of Administration should during the Royal Pleasure ad-
minister the Government of the said Islands, first taking the
Oaths in such Letters Patent directed to be taken by the Gover-
nor, and in the manner therein prescribed; which being done,
His Majesty did by such Letters Patent authorise, empower and
command such Lieutenant-Governor or any other such Admin-
istrator as aforesaid, to do, and execute during the Royal
Pleasure all things that belong to the Office of Governor and
Commander-in-Chief, according to the tenor of the said Letters
Patent, and according to the Royal Instructions and the Laws
of the said Islands.
AND WHEREAS His Excellency Sir Oswald Raynor
Arthur, Knight Commander of the Most Distinguished Order of
Saint Michael and Saint George, Commander of the Royal Vic-
torian Order, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over the
said Islands is now absent from the said Islands.
AND WHEREAS there being no Lieutenant-Governor of
these Islands and no person or persons appointed under the Royal
Sign Manual and Signet, I the said Kenneth Maurice Walmsley,
being the Senior Member of Her Majesty's Executive Council of
the Bahama Islands now resident therein and being capable of
discharging the duties of administration, and having taken the
Oaths in such Letters Patent directed to be taken by the Gov-
ernor in the manner in such Letters Patent prescribed, under
and by virtue of the authority of the said Letters Patent have
assumed and taken upon myself the Office of Acting Governor
and Commander-in-Chief of the said Bahama Islands.
NOW THEREFORE I do issue this my Proclamation notify-
ing the same and I do hereby in the name of Her Majesty the
Queen require and command all Officers, Civil and Military, and
all other inhabitants of these Islands to take notice thereof and to
be obedient, aiding and assisting me in the execution of my Of-
fice of Acting Governor and Commander-in-Chief as aforesaid.

Right Honourable the Secretary of State for the Colonies that
Her Majesty the Queen will not be advised to exercise Her
power of disallowance with respect to the following Act of the
Legislature of the Bahama Islands:-
No. 38 of 1958-The Escheat Waiver Act 1958.
2. His Excellency directs that the above-mentioned Act
shall come into operation as on and from the 1st December, 1958.

TRAFFIC NOTICE FOR SPEED WEEK OAKES FIELD
On Saturday 29th November, 1958, Sunday 30th November
and Thursday 4th to Sunday 7th December, the following traffic
arrangements will be in effect.
That portion of Oakes Field Main Road from the side road
north of Sir Harry Oakes Monument to the side road south
of the Airport Restaurant, (i.e. from North of the old P.A.A.
Building to the South of parking area of the Old Main Terminal
Building) will be One Way South bound during the races. After
the races this portion of road will be changed to One Way North
Bound.
Traffic wishing to by pass this portion of the main road can
do so by turning West on either of the side roads mentioned.
It is suggested that Through Traffic to or from Prospect Ridge
and Windsor Field Roads detour through the Ice Plant Road
and Farrington Road.
No parking will be allowed on the bend of the main road,
West from the old Hangar Building.

Tenders are invited for making and repairing Police Uni-
forms for the year commencing 1st January, 1959.
Patterns of uniforms can be seen at Police Headquarters.
Persons tendering will be required to submit the names of
two responsible sureties willing to be bound for the due fulfil-
ment of the Contract. The sureties must sign the tender.
Sealed envelopes addressed to the Commissioner of Police
and marked "TENDER FOR UNIFORM" must be delivered at
Police Headquarters, not later than 12 o'clock noon on Saturday
13th December, 1958.
